4 HEALTH STUDIES NorQuest College is helping ensure Alberta is prepared to meet the growing need for trained continuing care and health care workers. Our continuing education programs and courses in health range from basic first aid classes for everyone to specializations and advanced education for working health care professionals. Health Programs Advanced Education in Orthopaedics for Licensed Practical Nurses (LPNs) This post-diploma, advanced certificate program prepares LPNs with the knowledge and skills required for a specialized career in orthopaedics. This one year, 32-credit program consists of two self-paced part-time distance courses and a 300-hour preceptored full-time clinical practicum with a 5-day workshop. (ADVO1101, ADVO1002, and ADVO1103). Visit for more information and to apply. Health Care Aide Prior Learning Assessment and Recognition (PLAR) You can fast track to a Health Care Aide (HCA) certificate if you ve been working in a similar position in continuing care over the last three years. Once you are recommended for the PLAR process, you will receive an individual learner plan for self-study to achieve the level of proficiency required for the Health Care Aide certificate. Medical Device Reprocessing Technician (MDRT) Certificate Certified MDRTs are responsible for sterilizing reusable medical devices to prevent and control the spread of infection. Upon completing the theory and practicum components in this full-time certificate program (XHLT1030 and XHLT1031), you will be prepared to qualify for and write the exam that certifies you as a Medical Device Reprocessing Technician. The 4 courses in the bridging program will prepare you to sit the Pharmacy Examining Board of Canada (PEBC) entry-to-practice exam, the PEBC Evaluating exam, and the Alberta College of Pharmacists Jurisprudence exam.
