6 Delivery options Ways to Study Full-Time: Registered in at least 60% of a program s full course load per term. Part-Time: Registered in fewer than 60% of a program s full course load per term. ecampusalberta: Offered online, access courses and programs from colleges, technical institutes, and universities throughout the province. Dual Credit: Offered at high schools with dual credit arrangements, earn credits toward your high school diploma and post-secondary credit at the same time with selected programs and courses. Delivery Methods Face-to-Face: Delivered in a classroom setting, face-to-face instruction, with regularly scheduled class meetings. Online: Offered in an online setting. Face-to-face meetings may be required for some programs to complete laboratory components. Online courses are offered two ways: Synchronous (real time) Students follow a specific real time class schedule and must be available to log into organized online class meetings or video conferencing. Classes are often synced with a face-to-face delivery, which may be delivered during day, evening or weekend hours depending on the program or course. Asynchronous (anytime) Students are not required to participate in regularly scheduled class meetings although there is specific course start, end, and due dates for course work. Online learning is self-directed. Open Entry/Open Exit Students are assigned a start date depending on their registration date and will be given a set number of weeks to complete the class. Students can complete the courses before their specific end dates. Hybrid: Uses a combination of face-to-face and online delivery. Online portions may include synchronous and/or asynchronous components depending on the program and courses. Distance: Uses a combination of paper, phone, mail, and/or online correspondence for off-campus learning. More details about program delivery are available at norquest.ca. The program consists of two courses and a 300-hour clinical practicum. Learners will further their understanding of anatomy and physiology in relation to orthopaedics and orthopaedics radiology, assessment, and trauma. Administrative Professional CREDENTIAL: 5-month certificate (including 1-month work experience) The Administrative Professional program equips you with the skills and knowledge you need to become an office professional in today s business environment. You will learn essential office skills such as basic accounting, software applications, event management, and business communication. Upon successful completion, you will be prepared to work in emergency departments, cast rooms, and orthopaedic patient care areas. CREDIT PROGRAMS NorQuest RBC Ambassador, Gaspard Momba enjoys giving back to his community and promoting the importance of education. From LINC (Language Instruction for Newcomers to Canada) to Youth in Transition to Academic Upgrading, Momba has his sights set on a career in nursing, which will offer him another way to give back. Community Support Worker CREDENTIAL: 1-year (9 month) certificate This exciting 1-year certificate program provides graduates with the knowledge and skills to serve in one of four unique communities: Aboriginal peoples, immigrants/refugees, individuals with disabilities, and senior citizens. Students will have the opportunity to focus their training to support the growth and development of individuals and families and help build stronger communities. Fast-paced and hands-on, graduates are prepared for employment in such front-line human service-delivery settings as immigrant settlement agencies, Aboriginal child and family service agencies, group homes, and community service organizations. Tuition: $5,145 / Fees: $1, Wetaskiwin Full-time, hybrid Fall 2016, Winter 2017 Early Learning and Child Care CREDENTIAL: 8-month (full-time), 12-month (part-time) certificate Learn to provide quality child care in a wide variety of settings and plan developmentally appropriate activities for the children in your care. Knowledge of child development, family dynamics, play, and program planning will equip graduates to support the healthy development of children through child-centered learning experiences. Graduates are eligible for Child Development Worker certification from Alberta Human Services. Diverse opportunities are available in daycares, day homes, and other programs. The child care field is an above-average growth profession with increasing demand for employees. Foundations for Learning CREDENTIAL: Course credits In partnership with Community Adult Learning Partners throughout our region, this program includes a range of 12-week online courses, allowing learners to strengthen academic skills in their home community. Students can take courses online with face-to-face support at their local Community Adult Learning Partners. The Health Care Aide PLAR is a certification process for individuals who have directly related work experience in the past 3 years but do not have a certificate currently recognized in Alberta. Once you are recommended for the PLAR process, you will receive an individual learner plan for self-study to achieve the level of proficiency required for the Health Care Aide certificate. CREDIT PROGRAMS NorQuest instructor Bonnie Nicholas received the Carolyn Dieleman Award, presented by the Alberta Teachers of English as a Second Language (ATESL), which celebrates individuals who have made an impact on the delivery of, and access to, innovative and quality language and ESL programs in Alberta. Hospital Unit Clerk CREDENTIAL: 4-month certificate Hospital Unit Clerks play a vital role in managing information flow in hospital nursing units and are the first point of contact for patients. Obtain your certificate in just 4 months, including a 4-week work placement. Learn about medical terminology, processing medical orders, communication skills, administrative procedures, and computer skills. NorQuest graduates may work in acute care hospitals, extended care facilities, and private medical offices. Tuition: $3,990 / Fees: $1, Anywhere Online Fall 2016, Winter 2017 Language Instruction for Newcomers to Canada (LINC) CREDENTIAL: Completion certificate All applicants must provide a CLB assessment taken within the last 6 months. Applicants can be assessed at the Language Assessment and Counselling Centre (LARCC) located at: Catholic Social Services Street Edmonton, AB Call for an appointment Students who complete the program will have the basic language skills and settlement knowledge they need to better integrate into the Canadian community and pursue further ESL education and career training. We have highly qualified instructors, an extensive LINC library, innovative computer and ipad language labs, and we offer a variety of extracurricular activities. Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) Continuing Education courses CREDENTIAL: Completion certificate These self-paced courses can be applied to your continuing competency profile. You can register at any time and you will have 6 months to complete each course. Course topics include anatomy and physiology, infusion therapy, medication administration, pharmacology, therapeutics, and more. A certificate of completion is awarded for each course successfully completed. Anywhere Online Intake varies by course Physical Therapy Assistant CREDENTIAL: 2-year diploma The Physical Therapy Assistant diploma program prepares you with the theoretical knowledge and therapeutic skills needed to assist patients in overcoming physical injury or disability. Includes two 6-week practicum experiences in physical therapy settings. Get working faster. A 16-month, fast-track delivery of full-time study allows graduates to enter the workforce sooner. Upon successful completion, you will be prepared to work as a physical therapy assistant in rehabilitation hospitals, acute care centres, physical therapy clinics, continuing care centres, specialized care facilities, schools, and home care programs. The certificate year (Year 1) focuses on the knowledge and skills required to plan, implement, and evaluate individual and group therapeutic recreation and social activities. The diploma year (Year 2) focuses on the concepts, theory, and practical experiences related to leadership and critical thinking, and prepares graduates to work more independently. The diploma program meets the requirements for professional membership in the Alberta Therapeutic Recreation Association and allows graduates to work as recreation therapists. 14 NON-CREDIT PROGRAMS Designated by the Office of the Fire Commissioner (OFC) for Alberta, NorQuest is now offering fire service training that follows the National Fire Protection (NFPA) Standards, allowing successful students to achieve international accreditation through Proboard (International Accreditation for Fire Service Organizations) and IFSAC (International Fire Service Accreditation Congress). 16 NON-CREDIT PROGRAMS Launched at NorQuest College on October 1, 2014, the Edmonton Oilers Community Foundation Hospitality Institute is a unique partnership supporting Edmonton and Alberta s booming hospitality sector, which is poised for significant growth. 18 Funding your education When you re a student, money matters Figuring out how you will pay for your education is one of your most important decisions once you ve decided to pursue your education further. Whether you have existing financial resources (from income, family, investments, lines of credit, or sponsorship, for example) or you want to access other financial aid resources that may be available (listed below), we can assist you in sorting through all the options and which ones you may be eligible to receive. Government Student Loans Available to students in full-time post-secondary programs. Scholarships, Bursaries, and Awards Available to new and continuing students in all or specific programs, these may be based on financial need, academic achievement, leadership, community service, and contribution to campus life. Be sure to check these out on our website view all at norquest.ca/awards. Grant Funding Alberta Works Income Support is available to students who meet specific eligibility criteria and designed to assist people with financial need to complete training goals. Some grant funding also includes living expenses. See our website or visit our Financial Aid Office for more information on eligibility and how to apply. Aboriginal Student Funding Qualified Aboriginal students may be eligible for additional grants or loans. Other sources of funding may be available through your band education counsellor or Aboriginal funding agencies. Aboriginal student funding can include grants, loans, Band, Bill C-31, and Métis. Emergency Funding We realize that emergencies can happen to anyone in any situation. Depending on your circumstances, our Student Aid and Awards Officer may be able to help you with a short-term loan. Application Fees: $75 for Canadian/permanent residents; $150 for international applicants. Have the appropriate application fee in the correct form. Applications submitted without the application fee will not be processed.
