1 NEMAA and Public Functionary present Wintertide: 2015 Juried Biennial Exhibition Submission Information and Guidelines Wintertide is a new collaborative effort by the Northeast Minneapolis Arts Association (NEMAA) and Public Functionary to highlight regional/nemaa member artists high level of professional artistic capability. Goals for the exhibit include: connect artists, NEMAA, and Public Functionary to a wider range of arts patrons and buyers, support artists professionally by selling their artwork, and build the reputation and recognition of Northeast Minneapolis as a premier, respected visual arts community in the region. Juried Biennial Exhibitions are an important instigator in the discovery of exceptional work of emerging, mid-career and established artists based on a competitive jury process. This year s jurors for the Biennial are Leslie Hammons (Director, Weinstein Gallery), Peter Remes (Art Collector, CEO First & First), Christina Schmid (Art Critic, Assistant Professor University of Minnesota), and Jean Bevier (Professor Dominican University). Public Functionary Director/Curator Tricia Khutoretsky will participate in the second round of jury selections. In addition to selecting the artists in the Biennial, the jurors will award a total of $10,500 in cash prizes that will be presented at the opening reception, Saturday, January 24th. Artists are invited to submit artwork that will be available for sale. An entry fee of $35 (for submission of up to 3 works of art) is required, and the artist must be a NEMAA member for the year Each accepted artist will have one piece of artwork in the exhibition. The jury process will include 2 rounds. The application materials must be submitted online per the submission guidelines and instructions by December 10th for the first round of blind jurying. Artists will be notified if their submission will proceed to the second round by on December 23rd. Second round candidates will need to ship or bring their work to Public Functionary by January 9th. Final selections for inclusion in the exhibit will be announced on January 17th. Final prize winners will be revealed at the opening reception on January 24th. Submission Guidelines //// This opportunity is only available to NEMAA members. All applicants must have either renewed their membership for 2015 or joined NEMAA by the Wintertide application deadline: December 10, New work is encouraged. All work should have been produced since Submissions open November 3rd- December 10th (on-line through Smarter Entry, $35 per submission/ up to 3 images) Deadline to submit: Wednesday, December 10, 5:00 PM Central Time Size requirement: 2-D 4 x4 3-D Base no larger than 3 Submission must fit within one of 4 categories

3 Timeline & Selection Process //// Amount: Up to 30 pieces will be selected from 4 categories for the final exhibition. NEMAA will submit payment to artist within three weeks of the exhibit closing. 4 Submission Instructions for Wintertide //// Go to website: Log in or Create a New Profile Follow the prompts to create an account including address, , phone number and password. Once submitted, you will be directed to your account page. Select Competition and Pay Submission Fee Under Available Competitions Wintertide will be listed. >> Click Purchase Competitions (lower right hand corner of the Available Competitions box). >> Select the check box next to Wintertide. >> In the How did you hear about this competition prompt, select one of the options or choose Other (Please Specify) and indicate one of the following: NEMAA newsletter NEMAA website NEMAA artist NEMAA social media MNArtists.org Public Functionary Public Functionary website Public Functionary social media or, if none of the above, please specify >> Click Continue. >> Enter credit card information as prompted. There is no promo code. Note: The flat fee to submit materials to Wintertide is $ Entry fee is nonrefundable. You will not be reimbursed if your entry is ineligible. You are allowed to submit anywhere from 1 3 artwork images. >> Click Continue. >> Click Return to your account page to submit your images. Wintertide will appear under Registered Competitions.

5 Submitting Documents //// You are required to submit your Artist Statement and Biography before you will be allowed to upload images. These documents will not be seen by jurors during the first blind judging process. Both may be used in the second round of judging and for promotional materials for Wintertide. The Artist Statement should be specific to the artwork being submitted, but can also include general information on your body of work, process, or inspiration. Please limit the Artist Statement to 350 words (or half a page). The Biography has a limit of 2,000 words. >> Click on Upload New Images and you will land on the Submit Documents page. >> Click Choose File and select and upload each document. >> Click Upload Documents. To edit documents, click on Review/Change Uploaded Images under the Registered Competitions section of your account page. The Edit Documents button is in the top right column of the next page.

6 Submitting Images //// Images must be of separate, individual works. Submitting multiple photos/images of one piece is not allowed and will result in disqualification. Name artwork image files as the title of the artwork piece. Do not include your name. Click here for size and additional file name requirements. To upload images: >> Select Choose File. >> Select Category Note: Each artist may only enter artwork submissions in one category. When submitting images, you must select the same category for all images. You will be disqualified if your images are in separate categories. >> Use Additional Notes to enter additional information about medium/media. >> Type in Artwork Title. Do not include your name in the title. >> Fill out Required Dimensions. >> Set Selling Price. >> Indicate Year Completed. >> Click Submit Image the submitted image will appear in the column to the right. Repeat the process for up to 2 more images. Note: There is no save button. Once you submit your images, they are part of the competition. You have the option of editing documents and images until the deadline of December 10th, 2014 at 5:00pm Central Standard Time (7:00 PM Pacific Standard Time.
