22 Project basics in Serbia Title: TCP/YUG/ Wood energy for sustainable rural development Duration: Januar 2009-September 2010 Recipient: Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Water Management of Serbia-Forest Directorate Lead Technical Officer: Dr Miguel Trossero (FAO) National Project Coordinator: Dusan Jovic, Dipl. Ing. (MAFWM-DoF) Special Project Advisor: Prof. Dr. Branko Glavonjic (FoF) Budget: US$ 300,000
23 PROJECT MAIN AIM The overall objective of the project is to enhance the capabilities of the Directorate of Forests (DF), Ministry of Agricultural, Forestry and Water Management, for the formulation, evaluation and development of sound bioenergy strategies, programmes and projects compatible with the sustainable management of the forestry, energy and agricultural sectors. Specific Objectives Knowledge & understanding on wood energy systems Capacity building activities (knowledge dissemination) National wood energy action plan developed
24 CONCLUSION Important role of private forests in woody biomass issue, Question of sustainability in private forests, or lack of accurate data, Support process of establishing associations of the PFO to tackle small plots, Open the contribution of PFO for supplying large/district heating systems with forest residues, Initiate public-private-partnerships (PPP) in woody biomass issues, Forest certification, illegal activities Results from TCP/FAO project show bigger role and significance of woody biomass in energy balance of Serbia than all forecasts and estimations made so far, Continue with promotion of woody biomass issues and induce more active participation of PFO, Produce better picture on the significance and role of woody biomass from private forests in energy balance of Serbia.
