Salary Range: $ 36,024 -$53,497 Job #9014 Closes: November 9, 2015 This recruitment is to fill one (1) Full Time position in the Civil Division of the City Attorney s office working in the capacity as a Paralegal. Requirements: High School Diploma or GED and three (3) years of prior responsible legal secretarial experience in a legal office, Municipal experience preferred. Training equivalent to an Associate s Degree from any accredited college or university and/or a degree from an approved legal assistant program or any combination of education, training as a legal secretary/legal assistant/paralegal that would provide the required knowledge and abilities. Selection Process: Applications and supplements will be reviewed and the most qualified applicants will be placed on an eligibility list. From this list, applicants may be selected to be interviewed by an oral board and/or further testing. City of Bullhead City 1778 Paralegal PAY GRADE: 125 EEOC CODE: 06 FLSA STATUS: Exempt Revised: 10/21/15 STATEMENT OF THE JOB Provides secretarial support and assistance to management and legal staff including preparation of memoranda and correspondence relating to a variety of legal issues in the civil division of the City Attorney s Office. This classification is not supervisory. REQUIREMENTS: High School Diploma or GED, and three (3) years of prior responsible legal secretarial experience in a legal office, Municipal experience preferred. ORGANIZATIONAL RELATIONSHIPS Reports to: City Attorney or Supervising Paralegal. Supervises: N/A Coordinates with: All City Attorney staff and others as appropriate or as directed. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: (Essential functions, as defined under the Americans with Disabilities Act, may include the following tasks, knowledge, skills, and other characteristics. Opens and organizes files and maintains research bank for all files. Provides litigation support; maintains attorney and case calendars; gathers information and performs special projects as requested. Assists management and legal staff in the defense or resolution of lawsuits or claims against the City by obtaining City documents and materials for production, and coordinating interviews and/or depositions of City employees and witnesses. Assists in preparation of orientation packets for members of boards and commissions. Assists in developing standard forms and setting up a directory of standard contract terms.

4 1778 Paralegal Page 2 Assists in preparation of ordinances, resolutions, development agreement and contract forms. Assists with scheduling and preparation for personnel appeal hearings. May assist with review and organization of personnel file and preparation of attorney file for personnel hearings. May assist with transcription of recordings of pre-disciplinary and personnel appeal hearings. Performs research and support to assist legal staff with the preparation of legal cases and development of legal documents. Performs fiscal support assignments and public information and relations assignments as requested. Receives office visitors and telephone calls; receives and resolves citizen problems and complaints; may provide explanations of City codes and ordinances. Receives, sorts, date stamps and distributes all civil division mail and other mail distribution as needed. Types or uses a word processing program and appropriate equipment to transcribe documents and/or materials dictated by City Attorney, including draft resolutions, ordinances, intergovernmental and development agreements, contracts, legal briefs, complaints, answers and other legal and/or responsive pleadings and documents as necessary. Assist other departments with arranging for execution of contracts. Maintains calendars, prioritizing and arranging appointments and schedules, booking conference rooms and preparing meeting presentation materials. Inputs data into computer records and generates reports. Assists management with the development of long and short range plans. Provides comprehensive information about Department policies, functions, and procedures. Develops information systems and prepares distributions of forms and public notices related to Department functions. Performs other duties as assigned in case of an emergency. Provides exceptional customer service to internal and external customers.

BUDGET RESPONSIBILITIES Assists as necessary. REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES Knowledge of: Legal terminology, legal forms, methods and procedures for preparing legal documents; legal office practices, procedures and research methods; record keeping systems, court systems and procedures; rules of Court and City Ordinances. Skill in: Operation of listed tools and equipment. Ability to: Communicate professionally and effectively, orally and in writing, with City officials, co-workers and members of the public; organize and prioritize work assignments; work with minimal direction and supervision to produce quality work under pressure; be proficient in using a personal computer and a variety of computer software essential to performing daily activities; and maintain confidential information. TOOLS AND EQUIPMENT USED Requires frequent use of personal computer, including database and spreadsheet with word processing programs; proficient with MS Office software (including Word, Excel, and Outlook), Adobe Acrobat Pro, calculator, telephone, copy machine and fax machine.
