1 Depth and Perception Depth and Perception is a juried art exhibit hosted by the Independent Northern Kentucky Artists and Artisans Education Program (INKAA) at the Madison Gallery. Depth and Perception The exhibit opening will be on Saturday September 17, 2016 from 8:00pm to 10:00pm. Pieces from the exhibit will be on display in the gallery and online from September 17, 2016 to week of October 23, INKAA is a not-for-profit social enterprise that is in part an art business incubator, art gallery, artisan retail shop, art education program, and art cooperative. Our mission is to provide equitable access to the arts and art business opportunities to established, independent, emerging, and aspiring artists and artisans from the Greater Cincinnati and Northern Kentucky areas. INKAA is the new driving force behind the Madison Gallery in Covington Kentucky. Below you will find the key information for this Call to Artist. Please read the information carefully. Please note that this is not an open call to artists. You are specifically receiving this call to artist as an invitation. Exhibit Location: the Madison Gallery Inspirado at the Madison Gallery 715 Madison Avenue Covington, Kentucky (across the street from the Madison Theater/Event Center) Exhibit Date and Time: Third Saturday September 17, :00pm-10:00pm Exhibit Hosts: INKAA Education Program and Madison Gallery Exhibit Description: Depth and Perception will feature selected 2-D and 3-D works from local artists and artisans from the Greater Cincinnati and Northern Kentucky areas. Parrish Monk (the Executive Director of INKAA) and Chris Green (the co-owner of the Madison Gallery) have selected a panel of jury members to oversee the selection process for this art exhibit. 2 1. This is not an open call to artists. This is an invitational only art exhibit. 2. All artists 18 and over living in the greater Cincinnati and Northern Kentucky areas. All media is eligible, except film/video. 3. Large scale work that requires special installation or instructions will NOT be accepted. 4. Artwork must NOT have been exhibited previously at the Madison Gallery. 5. INKAA and the Madison Gallery reserve the right to reject any delivered or submitted work that does not clearly represent or match the original submission or conform to exhibit expectations. INKAA and the Madison Gallery regularly serve and work with young children and always maintain a family friendly environment. *So, while we appreciate creativity and independent voices we reserve the right to reject work that we deem is inappropriate to our patrons and young visitors. 6. You do not have to sell your original work but you must display the original work AND have some prints or duplicates available for the public to purchase. 7. The artist sets the price of the work for sale however they must include a 30% commission for the Gallery. Collaborative members in good standing only pay 10% commission. 8. Work submitted must be original work created by the artist and the artists must legally own the rights to their work. Your work must be an original piece and not a print or copy of another artist s work. INKAA and the Madison Gallery will not be liable for copyright infringement or other liability associated with copyrights. 9. Sculptural work must fit through a 36" wide entry door. All instructions for sculpture or 3-D work must be clear and minimize the risks of damage to the work as it is being installed. Artists must assist with the installation of fragile sculptures if needed. 10. Wall mounted works must not exceed 6ft x 6ft. Secured hanging systems must be installed on the work prior to bringing them the gallery. We will not attach hangers or wires on your work. 11. Your work must be ready to professionally display meaning all work must be appropriately framed, have hooks and wire, or be prepared for hanging if on canvas. If you have questions about proper display please contact us. 12. ***Artist accepted to participate in this event must also actively participate in promoting this art exhibit as well. We encourage invitations and sharing through social media and other outlets with friends, family, fans, followers and supporters. 13. Inspirado Restaurant and its staff are not involved or responsible for the art exhibit. To protect and document your assets you must connect with or set appointments with INKAA staff or Madison Gallery for delivery and pick-up of work. Please do not drop off work at the restaurant unless otherwise told to do so. The restaurant is in the gallery. The gallery now has two floors. The second floor is where the INKAA will be headquartered once we finish our renovations. Your work will be seen and for sale everyday to the restaurant patrons during normal business hours. 14. You can deliver your work via appointment between September 4th to September 10th. Call or Parrish at (859) or INKAAorganization@hotmail.com. *Preferred delivery dates: Saturdays before 4pm and Sundays between 10am to 12pm Please pre-arrange a drop off time and do not drop off your work at the restaurant to the restaurant staff. You can request to see the space beforehand if you would like. Call Parrish. 15. Your selected MUST remain on display at least until the Depth and Perception Exhibit officially ends on October 15 (new show begins Saturday October 15th) however selected pieces from
3 Depth and Perception Exhibit s artists will be reinstalled in a different place in the gallery to make room for a theme-based exhibit on third Saturday in October. Work will be on display from 9/17 to 11/5 (approximately 2 months). 16. Please do not include work in this art exhibit that you will likely remove before the exhibit end date. 17. Buyers and artists can begin picking up their work on October 10th. 18. Work will be juried by selected INKAA/Madison Gallery designees and the entry process will be online. * Please read all the important dates and instructions before beginning entry process. 19. Payout for all sales from the Depth and Perception exhibit will be by October 23, Payout, commission, and delivery is further discussed in artists agreement. Exhibit Submission Requirements: 1. All image submissions must be made electronically through . Send images to INKAAorganization@hotmail.com with the subject: Depth and Perception Submission. 2. Submissions will be accepted from August 25, 2016 to September 10 th. Late submissions will not be accepted. 3. If you do not hear back from INKAA or Parrish with 48 hours stating that your submission was received please feel free to call or text Parrish at (859) You can send up to 12 images of your work. Keep in mind that 2D artists will have about 10 x 10 to 12x12 combined wall space while sculptors and other 3D artists will floor space and/or sculpture pedestals if needed. You are welcome to come see the space. Appointment required. 5. Your images must be named and labeled with the following information: Title of the work, your name, and size. If the work is selected you will receive an stating the name of the piece(s) that was/were selected. 6. *Please take quality photos of your work so that we can use them in ongoing to promotions of you and your work in the art exhibit. 7. Please submit some brief information about yourself, your work, and what inspires your creativity. Have fun. IF/When You are Selected for the Art Exhibit: 1. If your work is selected for the Depth and Perception art exhibit you will receive an stating which pieces have been accepted. Likewise, if none of your work is selected to participate in the event you will receive an as well. Keep in mind that in the past we have received a lot of submissions, many that do not meet the criteria for the exhibit. 2. Artists selected to participate in the exhibit must furnish a head shot or picture of themselves along with a bio and artists statement by September 12 th so please get these ready. If you have problems creating a bio or artist s statement we can help or we can send you some examples or resources to follow. 3. You must also submit 2 to 3 quality (HD preferred) images of your work that we will use to represent you in our mass ongoing advertising of this event. 4. Artist must sign a cooperative agreement, liability form, and inventory list before participating in the art exhibit. This will be mailed once you are notified of acceptance. All received work must be properly documented.
4 Important Dates: 1. August 25 th : Call to Artist mailed out 2. August 25, 2016 to September 6th : Submission of Images and exhibit application (see details below) 3. August 25, 2016 to September 6th: Jury selection process 4. September 8 th to 11 th : Notification of selected works via 5. September 4th to September 10th Delivery of work (must make appointment with Parrish) *Preferred delivery days are on Saturday before 4pm and/or Sunday 10am to 12noon. However, we are flexible. 6. August 13 th - Official bios and artists statements due 7. September 10 th to 14 th : All artwork will be installed and labeled 8. *Note: the day of the exhibit the Inspirado Restaurant will be open for dinner at 5pm. Co-owned by Chef Baron Shirley, located on the first floor, Inspirado serves artfully made eclectic global cuisine. You can see their menu at (The restaurant is in the gallery. The gallery now has two floors. The second floor is where the INKAA will be headquartered once we finish our renovations). 9. September 17th : 8pm-10pm. Exhibit opens to the public. You can gather upstairs if you do not eat at the restaurant. 10. October 15 th : Depth and Perception Exhibit officially ends (new show begins 10/15) however selected pieces from Depth and Perception Exhibit s artists will be reinstalled in a different place in the gallery to make room for a theme-based exhibit on third Saturday in October. 11. All exhibited artwork for sale will be displayed on our website and e-commerce site as well and be accompanied by heavy marketing and sale efforts. Artists can choose to opt out of this option. Artists consignment agreement can be ed to participants at any time or reviewed in person during drop-off. Artist must sign a cooperative agreement, liability form and inventory list before the installation of their work and before participating in the Art Exhibit. However, pricing and pictures of all exhibited artwork for sale will be displayed on our website and e-commerce site as well. Artists can choose to opt out of this option.
