Cmpany Web site: Belw yu will find sme infrmatin abut the cmpany prvided by IPN Brainpwer: INSIDE SCOOP: The interviewer will mst likely ask what yu knw abut the cmpany. Infrmatin t research shuld include: cmpany, backgrund, histry, hw lng have they been in business, hw many emplyees, what are they main services/prducts, where are the ther cmpany lcatins, wh are their executives, etc. This will demnstrate initiative. b) Learn, write dwn and memrize a few facts abut the cmpany. INSIDE SCOOP: This culd be the difference in yu getting this jb ver the candidate yu are cmpeting against n this jb wh didn't knw anything abut the cmpany. c) Prepare abut 2-3 questins abut the cmpany t ask during the interview. 2 3. Preparing fr Interviewers Questins: Three f the tughest questins asked: a) Tell me abut yurself. r Tell me abut yur insert cmpany name experience. KEEP IT SIMPLE. Yur respnses shuld be cmpleted within a few sentences/minutes. D nt g lnger than this. b) What are yur weaknesses? This is a tricky questin. Think f this questin as What area(s) wuld yu like t imprve/develp? Have ne answer ready that is irrelevant t the requirement. Put yurself in the best pssible light. c) What has been yur biggest accmplishment? Think f a prject where yu met tight deadlines, r received r wn a Recgnitin Award frm a past emplyer, r attained a Curse r Certificatin. Always remember t keep yur respnses brief and psitive. Cmmn Interview Questins r Situatins: a) What are yur salary expectatins? They are lking fr smene wh is interested in the cmpany, and what the rle is, rather than smene wh nly thinking abut finances. Say yu are mre pprtunity fcused, and then defer this questin back t the interviewer. b) Where d yu see yurself in 5 years? r What are yur lng-term gals? They ONLY want t hear an answer that relates t yu wrking in r being a part f their cmpany. Tell them that yu really want t be part f their cmpany and hpe t grw within. INSIDE SCOOP: This is the nly answer they are lking fr. c) Are yu a team player? If yu are asked any questins that relates t this trait, just make sure that yu relay t them that yu "always get alng with everyne yu wrk with" AND "yur dr is always pen if anyne is asking fr help". Yu may have t give an example, s be prepared t think f a situatin where yu drpped everything yu were ding, t help smene. d) What t say when asked abut experience with a technlgy yu have little r n previus experience Cmpanies nrmally like t hire smene wh is a little aggressive in nature. Avid saying "I am weak in " r I have n experience with ". Little Experience: Answer in a way that will reflect yur experience in a similar technlgy such as "I used a similar technlgy at ABC Cmpany and..." N Experience: If yu haven't used it at all and have n similar technlgy t talk abut, always say that it s smething that yu wanted t learn and feel that yu can pick it up quickly. e) If yu dn t understand r didn t hear the questin If yu dn't understand the questin being asked r if yu didn't hear the questin prperly please ask the interviewer t repeat the questin. DO NOT answers with just "yes" r "n"; explain yur answer in a few sentences.

Turn yur cell phne r pager r electrnic devices OFF. c) 5 Minutes befre the interview Abut 5 minutes befre the scheduled interview time, enter the main receptin area. INSIDE SCOOP: Yur interview has just started. Frm the mment yu speak with the receptinist behave as if yur interview has just started s remember t be extra plite. NOW YOU ARE AT THE ACTUAL INTERVIEW HERE IS OUR ADVICE Remember that any interviewer is lking fr answers that explains "what was the situatin, hw did yu handle it, what was the utcme?" Always answer questins in a way that: Demnstrates yur skills r yurself in a psitive light All OUTCOMES have a "psitive tne" Sell, sell, and sell yurself. Take yur time, and speak slwly. Watch yur interviewer as yu respnd. Ensure that they are psitively respnding t yu answers. If yu are nt getting any acknwledgement, ASK them D yu need mre elabratin?, r Was that what yu were lking fr?

4 At the end f the interview, ALWAYS ASK the interviewer "D yu have any cncerns with my abilities t d this jb?" This is prbably yur last chance t clear the air f any misunderstandings, miscmmunicatins, r miscnceptins. Then if they say, "Well I think yu may be a little weak in... yu will have an additinal pprtunity t address these cncerns and clear up any misunderstandings t leave a psitive impressin. If yu like what yu hear during this interview, and really want this jb, dn't be afraid t tell them I AM INTERESTED IN THIS JOB, and that yu hpe t hear frm them. This may seem aggressive, but in actual fact it is nt, and culd be the final thing that tips the scales yur way. (One last chance t - sell, sell, sell yurself). Lastly, remember t RELAX and HAVE FUN! Interviews can be stressful at times, try t inject sme (dry) humr if yu can. Avid the plitical apprach Pliticians are ften accused f nt answering a questin cmpletely. The same is als said f sme peple in interviews. Many hiring managers are nt nly lking fr the answer t a questin asked, but are als using this t assess the listening skills f candidates. With this in mind, prepare fr interviews t pay careful attentin t what the interviewer says and what is being asked. Great questins can land yu the jb: One manager shared: "I have hired mre than ne persn because f the thughtfulness f the questins they asked me. I think ne f my all-time favrites was, 'What culd I shw r tell yu right nw that wuld cnvince yu that I am the ne fr the jb?' I never tld him this, but at that mment the jb was his-and he still wrks in my department six years later." I encurage yu t create a list f 10 r mre prvcative questins yu wuld like answered during the interview. Yu d yur jb, and I ll d mine Every manager wh shared his/her thughts n interviewing agreed upn the imprtance f candidates nt asking "What can yu d fr me?" questins, especially in the first interview. These include questins regarding salary, benefits, bnuses, and vacatin time. It s all abut what yu knw One manager s pet peeves, and they re nt alne n this ne, is that sme candidates knw little r nthing abut the cmpany. Learn as much as pssible abut the cmpany where yu are interviewing. This includes details abut the jb r assignment, the rganizatinal structure, and the prducts r services delivered by the cmpany. Yu shuld g nline and learn as much as pssible.

5 Being "suited" fr the psitin Mst f the managers interviewed indicated that the attire f individuals attending interviews culd use sme attentin. Their preference was that candidates be dressed in business attire fr interviews, regardless f the level f the psitin. Fr men, these included a pressed shirt and tie r, even better, a suit. Fr wmen, the recmmended attire included a business suit r dress in a cnservative clr. Fr the apprpriate attire fr the interview is The early bird gets the jb Prmptness was anther issue mentined by the hiring managers. Being n time is n lnger the standard. Managers are taking special nte when candidates arrive early fr the interview. Arriving 10 minutes early sends a message f strng interest and prfessinalism. Any earlier is TOO EARLY. Any later than 10 minutes is TOO LATE. Say NO t negative remarks Negative cmments leave a negative impressin, even when thse cmments are accurate. One manager was recently ready t hire an individual until, at the end f the interview; he made disparaging remarks abut his previus emplyer. NEVER make any negative cmments abut current r previus emplyers, managers, r c-wrkers. Remember, yur previus experience (hwever negative it might have been) has prven t be a learning experience and yu certainly have nthing negative t say at all. Five secrets t help secure a jb ffer. 1. Distil Value: List yur majr prfessinal accmplishments, use thse accmplishments t justify yur ability and suitability. 2. Eagerness: Team wrk is imprtant, dn't just say it but prvide slid, results driven examples. Emplyers need t knw yu'd be willing t take n whatever it takes t help the team survive and prsper. 3. Manageability: Yu need t shw yu can wrk effectively alne as well as part f a team and able t take directin and criticism. Cmpanies are lking fr wrkers wh get alng well with thers, whatever their individual pinins r beliefs. 4. Understand Yur Industry: It's nt enugh t tell an interviewer yu have experience within an industry, yu must illustrate prven knwledge backed by facts. 5. Slutins Oriented: Yu all slve prblems: Prblem slving is the mst imprtant part f any jb descriptin s identify and recall at interview typical prblems yu have tackled in past emplyment. What d yu cnsider t be the rganizatin's strengths and weaknesses? Can yu tell me mre abut my day-t-day respnsibilities? Hw sn are yu lking t fill this psitin? Hw d my skills cmpare with thse f the ther candidates yu have interviewed? Is there a structured career path at the cmpany? Assuming I was hired and perfrmed well fr a perid f time, what additinal pprtunities might this jb lead t? D the mst successful peple in the cmpany tend t cme frm within? If s, is there any ne area f the cmpany, such as sales r engineering, r d they rise frm a crss sectin f functinal areas? I knw that fr the psitin fr which I am interviewing, the cmpany decided t recruit frm utside the rganizatin. Hw d yu decide between recruiting frm within and ging utside? Hw des this psitin relate t the bttm line? What advice wuld yu give t smene in my psitin? What majr prblems are yu facing right nw in this department r psitin? Can yu give me a frmal, written descriptin f the psitin? I'm interested in reviewing in detail the majr activities invlved and what results are expected. I want t repeat fr yu what I believe are the majr gals f this psitin t ensure I fully understand them, wuld yu mind listening? IN SUMMARY: 1. Obtain the name, title, crrect spelling and PRONUNCIATION fr all interviewers. 2. Knw the psitin fr which yu are interviewing and review relevant duties and respnsibilities. Be sure t ask abut shrt and lng term gals fr the psitin during yur interview. 3. Nte the lcatin/address f the interview. Find ut where t park; the best way t get t appintment by train, car r bus; where yu shuld check-in when yu arrive; and if any barriers exist.

7 4. Secure interview schedule and agenda in advance, if pssible. Be sure t cnfirm the time, lcatin, and cntact persn at least 24 hurs in advance. T be safe, take dwn the name f the persn yu are ging t interview with as well as their assistant r HR cntact. This als shws yur level f interest and cncern. 5. Research the rganizatin and/r jb. Check the cmpany s website fr infrmatin r g t the library and research industry and crprate relevant publicatins, lk in the newspaper, and/r ask friends/clleagues/family/prfessinal netwrks. Als, by researching the cmpany yu will be able t ascertain the prfessinal benefits, stability and grwth ptential f that cmpany and what that means t yu. Be prepared t answer the questin "Why d yu want t wrk here? 6. Prepare and practice fr questins yu may be asked. Have "prve it" answers ready. Practice linking sft skills (wrk traits) t sme answers. Be able t recall majr achievements. Memrize yur resume. Interviewers will ask yu questins based n infrmatin prvided in yur resume. **A gd technique is t bring a prtfli f accmplishments with yu, perhaps in a flder r binder that yu can share with yur interviewer. 7. Cmpile questins yu need t ask and write them in yur nte pad. Yu shuld always have at least three questins prepared. One f the questins shuld recap the key respnsibilities f the psitin. **Never walk away frm an interview withut asking questins. ** 8. Cllect and have handy infrmatin fr cmpleting an applicatin, including full addresses and phne numbers f emplyers and schls. Never fill ut an applicatin withut reading thrugh it first. 9. Pack fr the interview (briefcase r flder): extras resumes, reference list, pens, cmpany card file, nte pad, tissues, mints, applicatin infrmatin, certificates f training and any items yu were asked t bring. Yu shuld always have a minimum f 3 resumes n hand. 10. Dress cnservatively and practice gd grming. Avid lud clrs, nn-traditinal suits, and scents. 5. Immediately Fllwing the Interview PLEASE CALL ME IMMEDIATELY after the interview (my cntact number is listed n the first page f these instructins).
