1 Australian Quarterly Travel Q4-2013
2 Travel Industry Overview - Summary Rounding off the 2013 calendar year, travel industry across the board in Q4 saw a slight decline in Total Visits over the period. With this in mind, should the industry review its expectations for Q1 2014, considering the first quarter of the year has trended as a period of high demand in the past? Traditionally, this period sees an increase, although not last quarter. Perhaps it's time for the industry to review performance expectations for the start of If Total Visits continue to decline, it would be an important shift from the growth trend observed in recent years. This quarter Destinations and Accommodation continues to top the list, remaining above the 200 million Visits per quarter. While TripAdvisor remained in the top position, it was sites such as Agoda and Stayz that surged up the ranks. Agency sites, which provide bookings for travel services, such as package holidays, flights, and tours, had the largest relative drop with 4%. In line with the declines for the two other largest travel categories, Commercial Airlines also saw a fall in Total Visit figures over the period. Overall, this demonstrates that the demand for travel between October and December was less than in the previous months. Virgin clawed back some market share from Jetstar and Qantas, in addition to regaining the third position in the ranks.
