2 Who we are The Capri Theatre is an iconic South Australian venue. Originally opened in 1941 as the Goodwood Star Theatre and later purchased by the Theatre Organ Society of Australia (TOSA) in 1978, it is an independent not-for-profit cinema run by a network of generous volunteers. TOSA have gradually renovated and restored much of the theatre to its 1941 Art-deco/Moderne style and have installed a unique 4/29 Wurlitzer theatre organ and the venue was listed on the State Heritage list in Where we re heading Whilst the Capri Theatre currently welcomes more than 60,000 guests per annum, we are about to embark on an exciting new chapter. We want to make this iconic building a real hub for the community in four ways: By supporting local organisations with their fundraising efforts through hosting events and providing assistance with promotions and donations By providing volunteering opportunities for the young and those with learning difficulties to gain skills and experience and the retired to be an active part of a community By completely restoring this Heritage Listed building and its unique organ to share with future generations By supporting and sharing South Australian brands with the local community and visitors The Capri will provide a cinema experience where guests can see a movie, enjoy a range of South Australian products, including wine, beer and desserts and hear the organ play before the movie session, all with the knowledge that the profits are going towards one of the many charities who use the theatre and also back in to the restoration of this heritage icon. Paint the Capri! Whilst the Capri generates sufficient revenue to remain open and perform necessary maintenance works, there is not enough to invest back in to the restoration of the building. The exterior of the building has not been painted in more than 25 years and the previous paintwork is peeling badly, leaving the building susceptible to the weather conditions. Next year is the 75 th anniversary of the opening of the Capri and it is our aim to have the old girl looking her best for her birthday. To do this, we ll need to raise $60,000. In order to achieve this, we need the support of the local community and over the page lists the ways you could help, as well as the benefits we can offer in return.
