1 Configuring EAS on the Motorola i1 Android Phone from Sprint Before getting started, it is very important that you get some preliminary information from your Exchange server administrator. Be sure that your company is running Microsoft Exchange 2003 Service Pack 2 or higher. Make sure you have the correct password that is associated with your account. This password can be verified by logging into your company s Outlook Web Access, (OWA), account from any web browser. Your Exchange Administrator should be able to provide you with URL or web address for such access. Ask your administrator for the Exchange server address (ex. Mail.ABCCompany.com). In many cases the server address will be a portion of the web address for Outlook Web Access. (ex: or ). Also ask the administrator to provide the domain name for the server. This could be as simple as ABCCompany, or in some instances could be left blank during the setup on the device. Only leave this blank in cases where you are having issues with configuring your account on the device and your administrator is not sure of this value. If your Exchange account has large amounts of , calendar entries and contacts, you may want to utilize the Wi-Fi capabilities of the i1 for a faster initial sync with your account. Be sure you configure the device with your Wi-Fi network before you attempt to set up your account on the device. Keep in mind that this is not anything you must do, only an option if you have large amounts of data within your Exchange account. Now that you have this information, you should be ready to successfully synchronize your Motorola i1 with your Exchange account. Remember, once you follow these steps, you will have mobile access to your Exchange , calendar, and contacts.

2 1. From the home screen, touch the icon. 2. From the Welcome to setup screen choose Next.

3 3. Choose Exchange Account. 4. Now enter your address and the password that is associated with your Microsoft Exchange address. If this will be your primary address, place a check mark in the Send from this account by default box. Simply touch the empty box below address to pull up the on screen keyboard on the Motorola i1. Once you have entered this information, choose the Done button in the lower right corner of the screen.

4 5. Now choose Manual setup to access the next screen for setup. You can choose Next, but in most cases the account auto discovery function will time out and automatically take you to the Manual setup screen anyway.

Now manually enter the Server name, the Domain, and be sure your address is still correct and the password field has the correct amount of dots that relate to the number of characters in your password. Be sure this information is exact to what you received from your Exchange administrator. Be sure you check mark the SSL box if your company has this enabled from the server. If you are not sure about this setting, look to the URL or web address that your administrator provided. If the URL begins with you will need to be sure to check the box. When you choose this on the device, the Accept all SSL certificates box will automatically be checked as well. Once all the information is entered correctly, choose Next. 7. If you now see this screen, you have almost completed the setup. Now be sure to customize the sync frequency, along with all of the applications that you want to sync on the device from your Exchange account. Once you have finished your customization, choose the Save and sync button. The next screen will show your configured account. Now tap the screen in the area labeled Exchange and your address, and you will see all of the folders from your Exchange account. Keep in mind that sync time will vary based on the amount of information that will be pulled down to the device from your account.

6 Troubleshooting Typically configuration issues stem from not typing in the information correctly. If you see the below message, check the username, password and the domain name entered. In some instances, the username can be the entire address, or the information before symbol in the address. (ex. johndoe@abccompany.com or johndoe) To verify that you have the correct password associated with your Exchange account, login to your Outlook Web Access account. Typically the domain\usernameand password used to successfully log in will be the same information used on the device. (ex. )

7 If you get the error message below, you need to check the server address that you have provided. One way to check this information is to ping the address via command prompt to see if you successfully receive a DNS translation of the address to an ip address. Open up command prompt from Start, Programs, and then Accessories. Types in the following command as it pertains to your server address and press enter. (ex. Ping mail.abccompany.com) If the ping responds with a visible ip address like shown below, you most likely have the correct server address information.

8 If you have tried all of the steps above and still cannot get the device to synchronize, use the link below to further troubleshoot. This link will simulate a connection to the Exchange server and give you diagnostics telling you where the breakdown in the synchronization steps is taking place. This will also assist your Exchange Admin in finding a resolution to the issue.
