Enjoy class field trips offering hands-on experience. Lab time is built in for individual instruction and demonstration. Coursework will include demonstrations, image-rich presentations, spotlights on featured artists and in-class constructive critique. Students will be introduced to new photographers and artists to inspire them to develop a body of work that reflects that individual student s unique spirit and vision. Students will experience further challenges with time and motion, low light photography and postproduction digital manipulation techniques. Objectives This class is a continuation of Beginning Digital Photography, designed for serious digital photography students who own digital dslr cameras, rangefinders, mirrorless 4x3 cameras or any camera with full manual capability. Design compelling images with purposeful composition. Creative use of exposure and camera controls to achieve optimal exposure, lens / focal length choices, shutter effects as well as lighting, perspective and depth of field. Gain further perspective through interactive learning and spotlights on various masters of photography. Hands-on experience on location and in-class camera work, as well as constructive critiques and portfolio building will make this a comprehensive digital photography class. Students will see differently and work more creatively. 1
2 Exercises: Use camera controls, lighting and design principles to create memorable photographs. Experience hands-on instruction, demonstrations and individual constructive critiques in an interactive class setting. Apply newfound skills in the field, photographing on location on two field trips during the 16-week semester. Bring your camera and its manual to class every week. Must submit photography assignments to Smugmug for review. You will submit as my guest. All metadata must be enabled (EXIF data). Guest upload to this URL: View images here: Have access to Facebook, where we will share the latest and greatest photography information with each other! This is a private Facebook Group and knowledge base devoted to Saddleback photography lifelong learners. Back up all work on flash drive (supplied) or external hard drives. Learning Outcomes Competency in technical skills and familiarity with the functions of the visual elements of design to create effects in camera and in postproduction. Develop visual literacy and critical analysis of photography. Demonstrate technical and artistic competencies of employing available light as well as artificial studio lighting. Develop competency in handling challenging low light conditions, night photography and manipulation of time and motion in still photography. Competency in conceptual problem solving and narrative use of photography as a form of artistic expression.
