Buy at Other requirements: Digital camera with manual control of aperture and shutter speed (usually indicated by an M mode on camera) and compatible memory card (8GB or greater). 2 ART128 / ART228: Digital Photography Course Syllabus Course Description: Exploration of basic camera techniques, lighting, composition, digital photography, and digital photo editing. Instruction utilizes Adobe Photoshop software. Course Objectives: Learn to use the best techniques to accomplish various photographic tasks. Understand and apply fundamental principles of graphic design and composition. Learn to correct and enhance photos on the computer. Build a photography portfolio. Course Requirements: In order to successfully complete this course, student must attend class and keep pace with lab and homework assignments. A reduction of one letter grade will result for every two absences. Academic Integrity: Violations of scholastic ethics are considered serious offenses by Eastern Arizona College, the Art Department and by your instructor. Students may consult the EAC Student Handbook sections on student code of conduct, on scholastic ethics and on the grade appeal procedure. Copies are available at GCC campus library. All work done for this class must be your own. While you may discuss assignments with other class members, the final portfolio project must clearly be your own. You may reference work from books and other materials if it is properly cited. Submitting images wholly or partially created by another person without proper reference under any circumstances will result in an F for the assignment, and at the instructor's discretion, possibly an F for the course. Students are expected to abide by the Student Code of Conduct and the Scholastic Code of Conduct found in the Eastern Arizona College Student Handbook. Copies are available at GCC campus library. Classroom Behavior: Because of insurance limitations, non-registered visitors are not allowed at class sessions or on field trips. Possession of drugs, alcohol or firearms on college property is illegal. Eating and drinking are not allowed in computer classrooms. Smoking and pets are not allowed in any classroom. Cell phones, pagers and other electronic devices that distract students are not allowed in classrooms without the instructor s express permission each time class is in session. Students that interfere with the conduct of the class or the learning of others will be required to leave. Instructor Withdrawals: The last day for a student to initiate an official withdrawal from a semester-length course and receive a W grade is six weeks prior to the last Friday before final exams. The instructor may initiate a withdrawal from a semester-length course up to the last Friday before final exams. Withdrawal for Short-Term and Open-Entry Exit course is the last day of the class. 2

3 ART128 / ART228: Digital Photography Grading System/Policies Your final grade will be calculated as follows: A reduction of one letter grade will result for every two absences. Most weekly assignments will be graded out of 100. You start at 100 points per assignment and lose points for insufficiencies in your assignment. Assignments are due at the beginning of class, often electronically. Each day that an assignment is late, 10 points will be automatically deducted from the final score. The Personal Project is scored progressively; each week s progress checkpoint is worth 100 points. Final grade will be calculated by dividing total points earned by total points possible. A % B 80-89% C 70-79% D 60-69% F 59% and below P % Extra Credit Opportunities: Participate in various in-class demos and contests for extra credit. Propose and apply photography skills learned in other classes and jobs for extra credit.
