2 Broaden your Mind Digital Media Introducing you to areas such as graphics, character design and games development, our digital media courses will not only challenge your computer-based skills, but your creative mind, too. At LCCA, our range of short courses cover various creative specialisms and are ideal for those interested in gaining knowledge and skills in an area they are passionate about. Each session at LCCA is taught by industry experts, providing you with an in-depth knowledge of your chosen subject and a fascinating insight into the industry. As well as this, hands-on sessions offer you the exciting opportunity to develop the skills you are looking to acquire. From fashion and photography to digital media, it doesn t matter whether your interest developed long ago, or over the past few weeks our short courses are for anyone over the age of 18 with an interest in any of the subjects available. LCCA will ensure that you leave your course confident in the skills you have acquired; you may even begin to consider a career within the industry you have studied. Lasting between four and ten weeks, all short courses are part-time, enabling your studies to fit around any existing commitments you may have. 3 Photography Fashion and Editorial Photography Photography Get to Know your DSLR This course introduces you to the basic skills needed to create fashion images for a variety of different commissioners. Over the six week duration, you will learn how to professionally interact with models, fashion stylists, hair stylists and make-up artists when shooting in the studio and on location. --Introduction to fashion photography --Introduction to studio lighting --Introduction to location photography --Creating mood boards --Production (hair and make-up, stylists, models) --Understanding of the fundamentals of fashion photography --Ability to use Studio Lighting for fashion photography --Ability to scout for locations --Ability to develop concepts and ideas for photo shoots --Ability to produce a fashion editorial The course requires you to be a minimum of 18 years of age, with intermediate English language skills. You should already be familiar with operation digital cameras. You must be eligible to study in the UK. and have access to your own DSLR camera. This course introduces you to the basics of camera functions and composition as well as the beginning stages of image manipulation using Photoshop*. This short course is ideal for those with DSLR cameras wanting to gain a better understanding on how to make the most of them. --Colour temperature and white balance --Dynamic range and reading your histogram --Aperture and shutter speed functions --Depth of field --Introduction to Photoshop --Composition in photography -- --Understanding of the basic functions of a DSLR --Ability to use DSLR on fully manual settings --Understanding of the interrelationship of aperture, shutter speed and ISO --Understanding of and ability to use depth of field --Ability to carry out basic manipulations on Photoshop skills. 4 Photography Photoshop for Photographers Photography Studio Lighting This course is ideal for those looking to take their Photoshop and colour management skills to the next level. Over the six-week duration of this course you will greatly improve your post-production skills, making the images you produce more aesthetically pleasing, and editing images to industry standard quality. --Camera raw workflow, batch processing and custom setups --Working with adjustment layers, opacity and blending modes --Levels and histograms in depth --Simple retouching techniques --Black and white conversions --Resolution and resizing --Understanding of the fundamentals of file formats --Ability to organise workflow using Bridge and Lightroom --Ability to use a Photoshop to an intermediate level --Ability to effectively prepare images for output The course requires you to be a minimum of 18 years of age, with intermediate English language skills. You must be eligible to study in the UK. Some prior knowledge of Photoshop is preferable. This course offers you the opportunity to gain an in-depth knowledge of studio lighting; building your confidence in your ability to work with professional studio lighting equipment. Over four weeks you will work with a variety of equipment, experimenting with many techniques used within portrait photography and still life photography. --Introduction to studio lighting --Operating studio flashes, continuous lights and mobile flash --Light temperature --Understanding reflected and incident light --Measuring light and understanding the effects of exposure --Flash and movement --Constructing different lighting set ups --Understanding of the basic functions of studio flash lights --Ability to use a variety of lights and lighting accessories --Ability to control exposure --Ability to construct different lighting set ups skills. 5 Digital Media 3D Character Design Digital Media Digital Graphic Design Over 10 weeks you will learn the processes involved in creating a 3D model. You will then put these processes into practice to create your own 3D character. You will also create a model using a photograph as a reference, in order to improve your visual analysis and build on the accuracy of your modelling skills. --Introduction to Autodesk Maya* and basic modelling tools --Simple modelling techniques for making animation-ready models --Accurate modelling using reference images --Introduction to materials and maps (and the effects they produce) --Rendering techniques --Understanding of applying 3D computer modelling in commercial contexts --Ability to create a complex 3D scene --Ability to create a 3D model within a scene --Ability to produce 3D animations to meet a creative brief Fri-3h per week 20 Feb / 8 May 31 Jul / 16 Oct 245 This course will offer you a solid introduction to the Adobe Creative Suite 6* applications: Photoshop, Illustrator and InDesign. 6 Digital Media Game Development Digital Media Responsive Web Design This course introduces you to the key processes used within the games industry, and the creation of computer games across different platforms. 7 Fashion Creative Pattern Cutting Fashion Fashion Design This course gives you an insightful introduction into the design development process used when creating fashion garments. Learning the basics of pattern cutting and draping techniques, you will develop the ability to create required styles and shapes. Over the 10 week period you will become confident in drafting blocks and translating them into styles of your own. --Ability to use pattern making tools and equipment following health and safety guidelines --Understanding of how to take correct body measurements --Understanding of the size system --Ability to draft basic blocks --In-depth knowledge and understanding of pattern cutting This course will introduce you to the basics of the fashion design process, covering a variety of topics from colours and silhouettes to prints and fabrics. Once these concepts have been covered you will explore the processes behind creating a concept and, subsequently, making it a reality. 8 Fashion Fashion Styling and Forecasting Fashion Fashion illustration This course will teach you the basics of fashion styling, including how to create a complete look according to a selected theme. Editorial shoots, look-book shoots and personal styling will all be explored over the 10 week duration. Fashion forecasting will introduce you to the cyclical nature of the fashion industry. You will discover where and why fashion forecasting is used by companies, who conducts it and how forecasting can influence other areas of the fashion industry. --Introduction to performing trend research and what influences trends --Methods to present a professional trend report --Styling a collection based on a given or presented concept --Introduction to how fashion forecasting is a vital part of the fashion cycle --Styling techniques --Understanding of how styling can be applied to different contexts --Ability to produce a full trend report --Ability to identify possible inspirations for trends This course allows you to explore different techniques used within the fashion illustration. Over the duration of the courses you will make vast improvements with your sketching and painting skills focusing on things such as body proportions and silhouettes. 9 FAQs 1. How do I apply for a Course? You can apply for a short course by downloading and completing an application form. Please visit to download the application, or info@lcca.org.uk to request a copy. Forms must be scanned electronically; please do not send a photograph of the form. Applications must be sent along with a scanned proof of ID (passport, ID card or driving license) 2. How do I pay? Payments can be made by bank transfer, or by card over the phone. Please call +44 (0) to speak to an advisor, or info@lcca.org.uk to request a payment form. 3. Where do Short Courses take place? Courses will take place in LCCA s main in Sheraton House, Great Chapel Street,, W1F 8FN. The campus is located in Soho, close to Soho Square and the nearest tube stations are Leicester Square and Tottenham Court Road. 4. What are the entry requirements You must be 18 or above to study a Short Course at LCCA. All courses are taught entirely in English and we therefore recommend that you be a competent English language speaker before beginning your studies with us. 5. Do I need a visa? Students do not need a visa if they are travelling to the UK on a passport issued by a country within the European Union (EU), European Economic Area (EEA Iceland, Liechtenstein and Norway) or Switzerland. If students are travelling from a country outside of the EU/EEA you will need to apply for permission to come to the UK and apply as a Student Visitor. You must ensure that you carry a copy of your offer letter for the course along with your Student Visitor Visa letter as evidence of confirmation of your place on the course.
