1 Wireless Networking on Campus Current Wireless Hotspots: The following areas have wireless access points that allow connection to the campus network. This access is constrained to the public Internet, and performance is limited. However, as a student, you have access to the full-featured wireless network. All you need to do is use winthropsecure. The following several pages provide detailed instructions on how to configure your computer. Instructions are provided for Windows Vista, Windows 7/8 and Mac OS X. Simply select the instructions appropriate for your operating system. (Bear in mind that this should only be performed once. Your computer should automatically remember the settings.) Note: Your computer will NOT connect to winthropsecure if it is already connected to another wireless network. Be sure to disconnect from any access point before you start these instructions. If your operating system is not listed, or if you are trying to connect with a mobile device, here are the important settings that you will need to manually configure: Use your ACC username and password. If you need to enter a domain name, use ACC. Otherwise, enter your username in the format ACC\username. Security: WPA2 Enterprise Encryption: AES Trusted authority servers: Thawte Winthrop University Division of Computing and Information Technology 7

(12) Type your ACC username and password and type ACC in the Logon domain field. 12 You should now be securely connected to the Winthrop network. If you experience difficulties, retrace your steps to make sure that everything was done as listed in the instructions. Also, make sure that you are NOT already connected to an access point as this would prevent your connecting to winthropsecure. Vista users may experience difficulties connecting to the wireless network. Fortunately, Microsoft has created a workaround. Please go to and carefully follow the instructions.
