1 Configuring Eduroam in Windows Vista How to configure Windows Vista wireless settings for use with Eduroam Opening the "Network and Sharing Center" Left Click the network connections icon in the taskbar. Select "Network and Sharing Center" in the tastbar window that pops up. A new window with "Network and Sharing Center" will pop up. Configuring Eduroam in Windows Vista - 1

2 The Network and Sharing Center This window shows if and what your computer is connected to, both by cable and wireless. You can use this window later to ensure you are on the correct network. In this window you have to select "Manage wireless networks" in the "Tasks" menu on the left. Configuring Eduroam in Windows Vista - 2

3 Manage Wireless Networks Click the "Add" button in this window. This will bring up the window to manually connect to a wireless network. Manually connect to a wireless network Select the option "Manually create a network profile". Configuring Eduroam in Windows Vista - 3

4 Network name, security, and encryption In the "Network name:" field, type in "Eduroam". The "Security type:" field should be set to "WPA2-Enterprise" on all computers that supports it. (Select WPA-Enterprise if your computes does not support WPA2-Enterprise) The "Encryption type:" field should be set to AES. (If you chose WPA-Enterprise as Security type you have to choose TKIP as encryption type) Click Next Configuring Eduroam in Windows Vista - 4

5 Eduroam has been successfully added Click "Change connection settings" to bring up the properties for the Eduroam wireless network. Configuring Eduroam in Windows Vista - 5

6 Eduroam wireless network properties Connection tab In the "Connection" tab remove check on "Connect to a more preferred network if available" Make sure the settings match the picture above, then click the Security tab Configuring Eduroam in Windows Vista - 6

7 Eduroam wireless network properties Security tab The option to "Cache user information for subsequent connections to this network" is used to authenticate automatically. Remove this check only if you want to authenticate manually each time you are in range of the Eduroam network. Continue to the next step. Configuring Eduroam in Windows Vista - 7

8 PEAP and Certificate settings Click the "Settings..." button in the "Eduroam Wireless Network properties" window to bring up the "Protected EAP Properties" window. Check "Connect to these servers:" Fill inn "gople.himolde.no" In the "Protected EAP Properties" window, make sure the "Validate server certficate" is checked. Now check "AddTrust External CA Root" as certficate in "Trusted Root Certification Authoroties" Now click on the "Configure..." button to bring up the "EAP MSCHAPv2 Properties" window. Remove the check in front of "Automatically use my Windows logon name and password". Click "OK" in the "EAP MSCHAPv2", and the "Protected EAP Properties" window. 9 Back at the Eduroam Wireless Network properties Click "OK" to close this window. The settings will be saved, and you the option to connect to the network will be available. Configuring Eduroam in Windows Vista - 9

11 Connecting to Eduroam Select the "eduroam" network, then click "Connect" Configuring Eduroam in Windows Vista - 11

12 Entering credentials Click "Enter/select additional log on information" to bring up the authentication window. Configuring Eduroam in Windows Vista - 12

13 Authenticating to log on to Eduroam In the "User name:" field, type in your user name. Students use as user name. Employees use as user name. Type inn your password in the "Password:" field. Leave the "Logon domain:" field blank. Click "OK". Validate Server Certificate The first time you connect you might get the "Validate Server Certificate" question. If this question comes up click "OK" to accept it, then click "Enter/select additional log on information" again if it does not take you to the next screen. Configuring Eduroam in Windows Vista - 13

14 Successfully connected to Eduroam Leave the Save this network" and "Start this connection automatically" checked. Click "Close" Check the network status You are now connected to the internet through Eduroam. Configuring Eduroam in Windows Vista - 14
