1 Setting-up of MS Windows XP for connecting to the wireless network eduroam The following manual describes the process how to set up connection to the wireless network via protocol 802.1X in Windows XP. The first step is the installation of wireless card drivers. We recommend to use up-to date drivers and to follow the manual of the card or driver producer. In case you have drivers installed it is necessary to check whether Internet Protocol is installed. Open the window Network connections and choose properties of Wireless Network Connection (right click on the icon of WNC and choose Properties). Choose General tab and make sure that items used for connection contain activated Internet Protocol. If not it is necessary to install it (Install button, option Protocol, button Add, producer Microsoft). For communication with protocol 802.1X it is necessary to have supplicant. In case of Windows XP we can use inbuilt supplicant AEGIS. Make sure that you have installed Service Pack 2. You can of course use other supplicants but their setting is out of the range of these instructions where we want to use maximum of instruments provided by Windows. The last step before the installation process is installation of certificate authority that can be downloaded form this website: The certificate can be installed straight from the explorer choose Open and than Install certificate. In case of using Firefox download the certificate to your computer and than install it the same way you open programs.

2 Settings Everything is now ready so we can set access to the network. In the Wireless Network Connection Properties window/wireless network tab, go to Preferred networks option and if not pre-selected, choose Add button and type the name of network (eduroam) to Network name (SSID) box. You can also choose network (eduroam) from the list and config it by pressing Properties button.

3 In the Association tab of eduroam properties choose the method of verifying in the network and encrypting of data. WPA + TKIP settings are used in eduroam. Go to the Authentication tab and choose the method of PEAP-MsCHAPv2.

4 Check Enable IEEE 802.1x authentication for this network and choose type Protected EAP (PEAP).Uncheck Authenticate as computer and Authenticate as guest and continue to the setting of validating (Properties button).

5 Here we set validating of certificate of server CESNET CA, that is why we installed the authority certificate. We do reccomend to check Validate server certificate because it helps to the security of connection! In case you cannot connect to the network, one of the variant, while searching for the solving of the problem, is unchecking of Validate server certificate. Then check Do not prompt user to authorize new servers or trusted certification authorities. In the lower part of the dialogue we select authentication method Secured password (EAP/MSCHAP v2). Press Configure button and uncheck Automatically use my Windows logon name and password and than press OK. The network is set and after confirmation of individual dialogues go back to the window Wireless Network Connection. After clicking on Refresh network list we find out whether there is eduroam network coverage and if so click on Connect button.

6 When we are trying to connect for the first time or the password has been changed the following notice appears above the menu bar. Click on the notice and fill the the first two lines in the Enter Credentials window. User name: your NetID number you will find your NetID number on your student's card. Password: password generated at Information centre at the ground floor of the Transport faculty, at the counter in the Library or at the 3rd floor of rectorate - Mr. Michal Jeřáb office. Logon domain: leave it empty

7 After succesfull connection to the network WinXP saves User name and Password and it is not necessary to enter these data again while connecting the next time. The following screenshot shows the access points of eduroam network at the University campus.

Please be prepared that the University campus is not fully covered with the wireless signal so it might not be possible to connect to eduroam network in some places.
