1 The Central Florida navy League is proud to PRESENT The 7 th annual Wounded Warrior Lone Sailor 5K& 10K The Central Florida Navy League will hold the 7 th annual charity event on Saturday, April 2nd, 2016 at Blue Jacket Park in Orlando. All proceeds benefit Orlando's own Camaraderie Foundation and the Lone Sailor Navy Memorial, commemorating Central Florida's rich Navy heritage. Camaraderie Foundation is a locally based organization dedicated to healing the invisible wounds of war to help our warriors and their families heal beyond physical wounds. The exciting news this year is that we will dedicate our Lone Sailor Navy Memorial on race day! Construction is underway and the bronze Lone Sailor statue is under orders to report to Bluejacket Park at last! The 5K and 10K runs are chip-timed events and will be held at the actual site of the Lone Sailor Memorial, the former Orlando Recruit Training Center s Grinder. Last year we had nearly 1100 runners and over 1500 supporters on hand for the event. We are requesting your sponsorship of this exciting event. When considering sponsorship, please take into account the many and varied sacrifices these warriors and their families have suffered in their dedication to preserve the freedoms we all enjoy. This event will celebrate the culmination of nine years of effort to bring the Lone Sailor Navy Memorial to reality. 2 The CAMARADERIE FOUNDATION Background:Camaraderie Foundation s mission is to provide healing for invisible wounds of war through counseling, and emotional and spiritual support. The foundation's outreach extends to service members, veterans and families of all services. Our warriors and their families are facing Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, Traumatic Brain Injury, Military Sexual Trauma, divorce, substance abuse, spousal abuse and child abuse, among other problems. And we have the ability to help them with your support. The Lone Sailor Memorial The Central Florida Navy League is raising funds to construct and donate this patriotic statue to the citizens of Orlando to demonstrate gratitude to those who have served, are serving and will serve in our Nation's sea services and to commemorate Orlando's rich Navy history. Lone Sailors are all across the globe defending the United States of America, its families and its freedom, as they have in the past and will continue in the future. The Lone Sailor patriotic statue expresses appreciation to these men and women for voluntarily putting their lives at risk to protect our freedom. The Lone Sailor Memorial is meant to inspire youth and honor veterans. It represents the core values of honor, courage and commitment. Proceeds raised from our 5K/10K will go to this worthy cause. As we complete the main project this year, we have exciting plans to enhance the Memorial in the near future. The memorial will be located in Blue Jacket Park in the old Grinder area of the former Orlando Navy Recruit Training Center (now Baldwin Park). The Lone Sailor Site will be available for use by all services, veteran s organizations and civic groups for appropriate special events, ceremonies and patriotic services. Donations are tax deductible. THE STATUE The bronze statue is the creation of Stanley Bleifeld, the U.S. Navy Memorial's official sculptor. The statue contains two pieces: the Sailor, who stands 7 tall and weighs approximately 1000 lbs., and his sea bag and cleat weighing 700 lbs. It will be the focal point of the beautiful memorial area constructed as part of this project and will become the centerpiece of Bluejacket park.
