2 About the Conference and Exhibition MedHealth & Wellness is a bi-annual international event that highlights the continued development of the healthcare sector in Oman. 3 OMAN INDUSTRY REPORT Over the past decade, the quality of healthcare in Oman has improved dramatically. This owes to the strong commitment and priority accorded to the sector by the government, with emphasis on improving and upgrading the sector to bring it at par with international standards. 4 OMAN: EARNING A REPUTATION AS A CENTER FOR HEALTHCARE IN THE REGION Oman s healthcare system is advanced and is highly regarded around the world. (BMI, Business Environment Rating Matrix for Q310) Health has the second largest expenditure allocation in Oman s 2012 budget (US$ 1.3 billion). Spending on health care is set to jump by 84%--from US$ 3.53 billion in the Seventh Five-Year Plan to US$ 6.47 billion in the Eighth Five-Year Plan. (United Securities) The increase is allocated for the improvement of existing facilities and funding of several new hospitals. The budget of the Ministry of Health will have to almost double by 2020 (US$ 12.9 billion), which could see the private health sector taking on a greater role. (Oxford Business Group) The market is expected to be worth US$ 2 billion by 2015 as a result of population growth, rising levels of lifestyle-related diseases and increased health insurance. (Report: Alpen Capital) The United Nations Human Development Report has listed Oman at the top of 135 countries that have made the greatest progress in recent decades in public health.

A massive Medical City type development project that consists of a complex of five major hospitals and supported by a dedicated imaging center and lab facilities providing highly sophisticated medical care. A new referral hospital located opposite the Muscat International Airport that will provide specialized high-level medical treatment. Construction of three major hospitals (a 9-storey building in Ruwi and an 80-bed hospital in Al Khuwair) and 13 medical centers in Barka, Duqm, Suwaiq, Khaboura, Buraimi, Ibri, Falaj Al Kabal. A major 245-bed state-of-the-art facility in the Wilayat of Al Amerat that will provide total treatment and rehabilitation and equipped with the latest technology and treatments, diagnostic, therapeutic, rehabilitative, emergency and training programs. Construction of a new hospital in the Al Sharqiyah region, that includes ancillary service blocks and staff accommodation each comprising a ground floor and an additional floor with 250 beds. Construction of polyclinics in Al Kamil, Liwa, Muttrah and Nakhal. A project with an area covering over 4,800-square meters, with a building consisting of laboratiories, an outpatient clinic and administration and library.
