2 Community Outreach: Examples Underprivileged Students 4-8 year-olds in remote locations are given 2 hours of instruction per year in English, life skills, and community service, through SCE Access Programs using a grant to administer USDOS English Access Micro-Scholarship Program. Arab students from Egypt, Libya, and Tunisia receive fellowships to pursue a master's degree in public policy with a concentration in media policy. Career Development Programs for University Students Ain Shams, Suez Canal and Assiut universities AUC s Career Center utilized funds and space at these universities to establish employability and career-development centers that replicate the CAPS model. Environmental Sustainability AUC s publishes first Carbon Footprint Report for a university in MENA. DDC, supported by the U.S. Forest Service and DC Greenworks, has recently established AUC s first extensive green roof.

3 Community Outreach: Examples Teachers of English in Egypt, the MENA region, and other countries -- SCE and Nile TESOL developed professional association and hosts annual conference. Public school science teachers receive training from SSE. Children s Cancer Hospital -- AUC's Medical Technology Program first in Egypt to produce certified international medical technologists for the hospital. Interpreters in refugee settings CMRS provides training and workshops for interpreters in refugee settings through the Cairo Community Interpreter Project. African journalists JRMC faculty train African journalists and media professionals through workshops each semester, with funds from the Union of African Journalists and Egypt s MOI. Journalists and media professionals in Egypt, Libya, and Tunisia receive training from GAPP through workshop Building Knowledge in Media Policy for Arab Countries in Transition. BUS hosted the Fourth Annual Euro-African Conference in Finance and Economics and established partnership with Aramex and Wamda to develop case studies about inspiring start-ups from the MENA region. HUSS co-sponsored the DC-based project on Middle East Political Science in June 2, held a workshop on Political Science methodology for graduate students and junior faculty from Cairo area universities in June 22, and sent an exhibition to the Venice Biennale in 22. GAPP organizes and hosts the Tahrir Dialogues, a series of public debates on current events, with more than 33 panel discussions to date. AUC Athletics hosted the Egyptian Special Olympics in September 23.

6 University Networking: Examples SSE Collaborating with 9 international universities and nine domestic universities or centers Sixty experts from AUC and KAUST set sail in a collaborative project to examine microbial life in marine systems in the Red Sea. Ahmed Zewail City for Science and Technology and AUC establish joint Center for Nanoelectronics and Devices Erasmus Mundus Post-doc fellowships and one-month faculty research in Europe for Egyptian faculty.
