Materials: Cler r refrigeratr Resurce card (Prvided in kit r as available as pdf) Lab sheet (Prvided in kit r as available as pdf) Fr each grup f students: 5 hard biled eggs Measuring cup ½ cup ( 118 ml) 4% white vinegar 5 glass r plastic cntainers ½ cup (118 ml) milk 1 sturdy paper plate ½ cup (118 ml) sprt drink any variety Marker r tape t label cntainers ½ cup (118 ml) sft drink any variety Paper twels ½ cup (118 ml) water

2 Prcedures: 1. Place students in small grups. 2. Have each grup bserve ne f the eggs and recrd their bservatins. Students shuld include the clr, texture, and mass (if pssible) f the egg. 3. Students shuld als include the hardness f the egg. T d this, have students scrape the surface f the egg with their thumbnail. (CAUTION: Students d nt want t BREAK the shell!) Student shuld recrd which ne they think is harder their nail r the shell. 4. Label the cups. Measure each liquid and pur it int the crrect cup. 5. Place ne egg in each cup. 6. Label the paper plate per grup and place the cups n the plate. Stre in the cler r refrigeratr fr 24 hurs. 7. Return the eggs t each grup. 8. Have students bserve each egg and recrd their findings. They shuld again include the clr, texture, mass, and hardness f each egg. Cncluding the lessn: 1. Have students read Drinks Destry Teeth. Discuss the effects f acid n the egg shells. Have student rank the liquids frm mst acidic t least acidic based n their bservatins. 2. Cmpare the egg shell t the enamel f a tth. Have students predict hw each drink might affect their teeth. (Remind students that vinegar is NOT a drink) 3. Have students chse which drinks are mst beneficial fr their teeth and explain why.
