4 FTA-TP Grant 1. Outreach and Advocacy The Free Trade Agreement Training Provider (FTA-TP) Grant has been implemented to support the Government s FTA advocacy and outreach objectives The Government is undertaking a range of activities to increase utilisation To deliver projects aimed at helping SMEs and stakeholders understand how to use and access Australia s FTAs with China, Japan and Korea. Key Goals The key goals of the FTA-TP grant will be to leverage the capability of Australian member-based business organisations and education institutions to: Increase awareness of FTA s in the China, Japan and Korea Increase understanding of how to use and benefit from FTAs in the target markets Share accurate information and knowledge to foster greater engagement by Australian SMEs in target FTA markets. 6 FTA-TP Grant 3. Changes Updated Guidelines were released on 29 September to reflect changes made to the program. Eligible organisations need to ensure they read the latest version of the Guidelines before commencing an application. Key changes include: funding capped at a maximum of $100k per project the requirement to apply mandatory fees for training has been removed member-based business organisations can differentiate between members and non-members if fees are charged for training projects can now include market visits to the target FTA markets eligibility is now limited to member-based business organisations and education institutions (Universities and TAFE colleges). 7 FTA-TP Grant 4. Who Can Apply? Eligibility Applicants need to be an Australian member-based business organisation or an education institution Applicant organisations need to be registered and located in Australia Individual companies cannot apply Free Trade Agreements Austrade 7

How it Works Merit based, competitive grants program for eligible projects Will fund up to a maximum of 50 per cent of the total cost of an eligible project Remaining 50 per cent to be funded by the applicant Total year two funding is $773,000 with $1.372 million previously committed in year one Grants from $20,000 up to a maximum of $100,000 (excluding GST) for the current grant year Austrade administers the FTA-TP Grant Free Trade Agreements Austrade 8

Funding Two rounds of Grant funding: : $773K (excluding GST) Available Funding : $1.372 million (excluding GST) Fully Committed Funding in this round is available for projects from $20K to $100K which must be completed in one financial year The FTA-TP grant will fund up to a maximum of 50% of the total cost, with the remaining 50% funded by the applicant. 10 FTA-TP Grant 7. What Are We Looking For? The key aim of the Grant is delivery of targeted FTA training to Australian SMEs, that provides accurate information on how to use and access FTAs effectively. We are looking for: Projects delivered through training mechanisms (including seminars and workshops) Accurate information relating to rules of origin, relevant trade and investment regulations and tariff phase-outs in FTA target markets Projects that also address any non-fta barriers in the target FTA markets Activities that are outcomes focussed and demonstrate FTA information sharing, awareness, utilisation and access Free Trade Agreements Austrade 10

Training Tools Examples of the type of training tools eligible for funding include: research on FTA benefits for industry sectors which leads to dissemination of practical value-add FTA information to SMEs development of targeted information sharing packages to maximise FTA awareness and utilisation across industry sectors production of fact sheets, video and sound recordings, web tools, seminars and workshop materials for project training activities FTA advisory / coaching / mentoring activities by experienced business practitioners missions, events and other promotional activities that assist SMEs to access and utilise the opportunities in FTA target markets Free Trade Agreements Austrade 11

13 FTA-TP Grant 10. Take Away 1. The FTA-TP grant forms part of the Government s outreach to promote business understanding of FTAs with North Asia 2. Eligible organisations will be supported to deliver training and market visits to SMEs on how to use and access FTAs in the target markets 3. The FTA-TP is a merit-based, competitive grant offering funding up to 50 per cent of the total project 4. Applicants need to have an ABN, be located in Australia and meet eligibility requirements set out in the FTA-TP Guidelines 5. In the minimum grant is $20K and the maximum is $100K 6. Projects need to demonstrate accurate, balanced, value-add FTA information 7. Choose effective training tools and market visit activities to support project delivery 8.
