1 April WASTE SECTOR (ONTARIO) TRUCK DRIVING CHAMPIONSHIP Dear Waste Sector Association Member, We are very excited to announce our 24 th Annual WASTE SECTOR (ONTARIO) TRUCK DRIVING CHAMPIONSHIP Competition which will be held at the Waste Management of Canada Corporation Facility at 505 Conestoga Blvd, Cambridge, Ontario on Saturday, June 14 th, Come out and watch our Private Sector and Public Sector Drivers compete for the top positions. The OWMA is very pleased to offer your company and your drivers another opportunity to come out and enjoy the day while competing against the best of the best. To assist in the organization of the Truck Driving Championship and ensure that the scheduled activities are completed, the individual categories will be assigned approximate start times. NEW THIS YEAR ALL DRIVERS AND GUESTS ARE INVITED TO AN INFORMAL GATHERING ON FRIDAY EVENING FROM 6:00 PM 7:30 PM (DETAILS WILL BE PROVIDED WHEN YOU SIGN UP). ALL DRIVERS WILL WRITE THE EXAM AT 7:00 A.M. ON SATURDAY JUNE 14 TH, FOLLOWED BY A GUIDED COURSE WALK THROUGH AT 7:30 A.M. PLEASE NOTE THAT YOU MAY DO YOUR CIRCLE CHECK WITH THE MTO INSPECTORS AT ANY TIME DURING THE DAY BUT WE ASK THAT YOU COMPLETE THAT AS SOON AS POSSIBLE TO ENSURE THAT ALL DRIVERS ARE GIVEN AN OPPORTUNITY TO COMPLETE THE INSPECTION. 8:00 a.m. SPECIAL SERVICES 9:00 a.m. ROLL OFF 10:00 a.m. REAR LOADER 11:00 a.m. FRONT END PLEASE NOTE THESE TIMES ARE ONLY ESTIMATES THE ORDER MAY CHANGE BASED ON THE NUMBER OF DRIVERS REGISTERED IN EACH CATEGORY.

2 Page 2 April 2014 The 2014 Truck Driving Championship will consist of the following categories: 1. Special Services (single axle recycling trucks; boom trucks; side loaders) 2. Tandem Axle Rear Loader 3. Front End Loader 4. Roll Off A driver can only compete in one category. Multi-division companies are permitted to enter a slate of contestants from each division, three drivers per division, per category (12 drivers), NEW LIMIT THIS YEAR! The entry fee is $ ($ HST) per driver. Make your cheque payable to OWMA and submit it with your application before June 9 th, There will be absolutely no on-site registrations. The winners of each category in each section will be awarded a plaque that will hang in the company offices for a year and have the opportunity to participate in the Ontario Truck Driving Provincial Competition and drivers will receive awards as follows: 1 st Place - Keeper Plaque plus $ nd Place - Keeper Plaque plus $ rd Place - Keeper Plaque plus $50.00 The overall Grand Champion will be awarded the Grand Champion Trophy to proudly display in their home and workplace. A Rookie of the Year award will be awarded to the first-time entrant with the highest overall point total. Be sure to note on the contestant application form if your driver is a first-time entrant. Once your drivers have registered, a Drivers Kit will be available for downloading from our website The top three drivers from each category are eligible to participate in the Ontario Trucking Competition that is held every year. Details will be provided to the eligible drivers and their companies. Eligibility requirements and an application form are enclosed in this package. 3 Page 3 April 2014 The competition will commence with a written test at Waste Management of Canada Corporation Facility, 505 Conestoga Blvd., Cambridge, at 7:00 am sharp followed by a guided course walk through promptly at 7:30 am. Following the driving course competition, the awards luncheon will also be held at the Waste Management Facility. Local accommodations and a map for the facility are also attached. We look forward to your participation in this year s Truck Driving Championship. It is an excellent competition and a superb way to recognize the professionalism that you receive from your drivers. 4 WASTE SECTOR (ONTARIO) TRUCK DRIVING CHAMPIONSHIP Sponsored by OWMA ELIGIBILITY AND RULES ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS: 1. Contestants must have worked as a full-time employee in the Industry for no less than one (1) year. Seasonal employee lay-offs will be considered after two years continuing employment. 2. Contestants must be employed as a driver at the time of the Driving Championship and have performed the duties of a professional truck driver for at least 11 of the 12 months prior to the competition. 3. Contestants must be free of preventable accidents and moving traffic violation convictions for a one (1) year period prior to the Driving Championship entry date. 4. Contestants should have a reasonable work attendance record. Contestants should be disqualified if the driver has missed more than eleven (11) working days in the one (1) year period prior to the competition date without a doctor s clearance; or have demonstrated chronic tardiness in the one (1) year prior to the competition. TRUCK DRIVING CHAMPIONSHIP RULES: 1. A written test dealing with safety, proper driving techniques and rules of the road will be included in the competition. This will be written at Waste Management of Canada Corporation, 505 Conestoga Boulevard, Cambridge (map attached). This test may be taken verbally with prior notification. 2. No contestant will be permitted to operate the vehicle which he/she regularly drives. If trucks from a contestant s municipality or company base are used in the competition, the contestant s Supervisor will be responsible to ensure the contestant does not practice on the vehicle to be used in the Truck Driving Championship. 3. Competitors must be dressed appropriately in their company uniform or long pants and shirt, and wearing acceptable footwear appropriate to be worn on the job. 4. No contestant will be permitted to practice on the laid out course prior to competition. 5. A representative of the OWMA along with the Truck Driving Championship Committee shall disqualify any contestant whom, by a determination of two-thirds of the Committee members present, is guilty of conduct detrimental to the competition or the solid waste collection industry. Contestants shall not have the right to appeal.

Please review the hotel and rates as described below and book early this rate and room block will only be available until May 15 th, 2014 at which time they will be released. 8 OWMA Truck Driving Championship Sponsorship Opportunities Full Category of Vehicle Winner (4 available) The cost is $775 and provides two plaques (one for the company and one for the driver) and monetary prize for the 1st, 2nd and 3rd place winners. We currently have all four categories available (Front End, Rear Load, Special Services, Roll Off). Your logo and name will hang on the plaque for the driver at their place of business for the next year, plus the driver will have a personalized plaque for life. (4 sponsorships available) Grand Champion Winner The cost is $325 and provides two plaques (one for the company and one for the driver) and monetary prize for the winner. Your logo and name will hang on the plaque for the driver at their place of business for the next year, plus the driver will have a personalized plaque for life. Rookie of the Year Winner The cost is $100 and provides a plaque for the driver and a monetary prize for the winner. Your logo and name will hang on the plaque for the driver. Driver s Luncheon The cost is $2,750 and provides a bbq chicken luncheon for everyone that attends the TDC event. Driver s Gift The cost is $900 and provides a gift for each driver as part of their registration package. Friday Night Driver Gala Gold Sponsorship - $2,500 only one This would make you the primary sponsor for this event provide drivers and guests with appetizers and non-alcoholic refreshments for a period of 1.5 hours. You and 3 people from your organization would be invited to attend, socialize and mingle with the drivers, supervisors and managers for the whole event. An opportunity to provide all drivers with handouts, gifts, corporate items as well would be provided (either that evening or as an insert into the goody bag provided to the drivers on the Saturday). 9 April 2014 Dear OWMA Truck Driving Supporters As you are aware, each year the Ontario Waste Management Association (OWMA) hosts a TRUCK DRIVING CHAMPIONSHIP COMPETITION for all waste sector drivers. This years competition is being held on Saturday, June 14 th at Waste Management of Canada Corporation, 505 Conestoga Blvd., Cambridge, Ontario. Each year the drivers are treated to a great day of driving competition, lunch, prizes and fun for all. Families are encouraged to attend and participate children s corner with activities will be available but is unsupervised. New this year we are holding an informal gathering for all drivers and families on the Friday evening details will be announced soon. Please have a look at the available sponsorships and sign up today and/or send some goodies for the gift bags. This Competition has been held for several years now and has been very successful in promoting truck safety and driving skills among professional waste industry drivers. We are inviting your company to make a donation to the gift bags. We are hoping to have over 75 drivers at this years competition and we would be very pleased to receive any type of promotional material your company may wish to donate such as hats, keychains, coffee mugs, t-shirts, paper pads, pens, etc. Every company that contributes a prize will be recognized at the awards presentation luncheon following the competition.
