2 AEIS seeks volunteers for our annual Health Screenings October If you'd like to help, please visit the link below to sign up ATTENTION PARENTS Lunch Menu: October 5-9 (subject to change) 7 A: Chicken Sliders Fire Prevention Week Meeting the Challenge With a special day of demonstrations by Kadena Fire for 3rd & 4th Graders on Thursday, October 8th HEAD LICE ALERT A few cases of head lice have been identified at AEIS. If a student in your child s class has lice, you will be informed. As a precautionary measure please watch your child for itchy scalp. Check your child s head daily for the presence of lice and/or eggs. It is especially important to look at the scalp, back of the ears and back of the neck. Head lice are elongated insects approximately 1/8inch in length. The eggs, commonly called nits, are teardrop in shape, very small and vary in color from off-white to yellowish brown. The nits are attached to the hair shaft close to the scalp, with a waterproof, cement-like substance. These nits cannot be washed or brushed off like dandruff or debris. Lice can be transmitted by direct contact with an infected person or by use of the personal belongings of the infected person such as combs, hats, jackets, etc. If you notice any lice or nits on your child, please contact the school nurse or take your child to the local medical facility for treatment. 3 School Advisory Council What is it? What s it have to do with me? Why am I reading this? Tune in, as the School Advisory Council (SAC) exists to advise the principal on issues relating to educational programs, resources, services, school policies, etc. Parents/sponsors of students attending AEIS may attend our meetings which occur quarterly or more, if needed. Our first meeting will be in the Information Center at 1515 on 5 Oct. Only SAC members may vote on issues, but you re welcome to attend and share. Any questions, contact Tracy.Bender@pac.dodea.edu. Thank You!
4 Students had the opportunity to participate in our first Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) Day for the school year. Students participated in activities hosted by the Kadena AB Meterologists, Kadena Cryogenics, Community Bank, and a computer programming activity with Mr. Mike Schoebinger. All About Me Museum a Success Ms. Schneider s 3rd grade class started the school year out with making a museum as a way to get to know each other and learn how to write a descriptive paragraph. Students brought in artifacts from their homes that were important to them. Then they chose one item to write about using the format of a descriptive paragraph. The Museum was open for parents to view at Open House and then it was re-opened and shared with students from Bob Hope Kindergarten Classrooms and Ms. Fussell and Ms. and Mr. Parker s first grade classroom. Fun was had by all!
