2 Welcome Corowa Shire Council is committed to supporting economic growth in the Shire and ensuring the ongoing sustainability of the tourism industry. We understand the important role that tourism plays in our community and recognise the need to ensure this industry continues to grow and prosper. Council is focused on achieving outcomes that will benefit local businesses, the community and visitors to the region. As part of this commitment, we will; Deliver quality and professional Visitor Services. Develop and maintain of a destination website. Develop marketing material and participate in activities that will effectively promote the region and encourage increased visitation. Coordinate various buy-in opportunities for local tourism operators. Deliver some events and provide support to event organisers hosting events in Corowa Shire. Facilitate the Tourism Events Grant program to provide financial support to event organisers. Work to attract events and investment that will support visitation and residential growth and deliver benefits to industry and the wider community. Focus on product development such as foreshore improvements and infrastructure. Use social media to promote the region. Work with the Murray Regional Tourism Board to ensure continued participation in regional initiatives and ongoing support for the industry. 3 Visitor Services Corowa Shire Council delivers professional visitor services from three locations across the Shire. Our friendly staff and volunteers are committed to ensuring visitors to the region receive exceptional customer service and information to meet their needs. Our centres offer; Brochure and poster displays. Booking facilities for accommodation, events and attractions. Product referral service and day trip suggestions. Souvenirs and gifts. Local knowledge and experience. Maps, guides and information on services and facilities. Free internet access. 4 Buy-in Opportunities Corowa Shire Council will be offering tourism operators and stakeholders the opportunity to take part in a number of marketing and promotional initiatives throughout the year. Official Visitor Guide The Official Visitor Guide (OVG) will now be produced in partnership with Destination Rutherglen, to jointly promote the Corowa Shire and Rutherglen regions. This is an excellent opportunity for tourism operators in Corowa Shire to extend their exposure into North East Victoria and beyond, and tap into the increasing number of visitors to this region. The guide will showcase the vast array of options available to visitors across the region. It is a visitor focused, practical tool designed to provide visitors planning or enjoying a trip in the region, with a comprehensive understanding of the range of things to see and do. It will inspire, inform and encourage increased visitation. Production of the OVG will be supported by paid advertising within the guide (for ad size and pricing, please see page 7). Details of the Guide 80,000 copies produced 60,000 copies distributed out of the region 20,000 copies used in the region Designed to last for 18 months To create out of region visitation and inform in region Clean, modern uncluttered look with editorial at the front including high quality visual images. Advertising listings will be at the back of the guide in the following categories; Accommodation Wineries Food and Produce Tours and Packages Shopping Additional categories may be available if required. Official Visitor Map Details of the Map Double sided (Corowa on one side and Howlong on the other) Minimum A3 size, printed in full colour 30,000 copies printed Available for download at visitcorowashire.com.au Clean, modern and uncluttered design Easy to read map legend Inclusion of business phone number Key promotional categories will be colour coded and include - entertainment and eating out, accommodation, things to do and see. The Official Visitor Map is provided to visitors wishing to explore our region once they have arrived. The opportunity exists for tourism operators to purchase numbered reference points on the map. No additional paid advertising spaces will be available in this edition of the map, to allow for a cleaner and uncluttered design. This change will also provide room for each business purchasing a reference point to include their contact phone number. Designed to last for 18 months, this map is a key promotional opportunity. It is widely distributed throughout the region and is a cost effective way to let visitors know where you are. 4
5 Tourism Destination Website Corowa Shire Council has embarked on a project to develop a new tourism destination website that will more effectively promote the Corowa region. Due to be launched in early 2016, the website will provide visitors with a richer and more effective digital experience. It will showcase the great range of product available for visitors to enjoy and improve their ability to plan their trip and seek relevant travel information. The new website will enable operators to list their products and leverage the increased visitation to the site. A separate information package is available in relation to the website, for further information. Features of the platform Responsive design that works across a range of devices (mobile, desktop, tablet). Customised design that reflects our brand. Local operator listing and integration with Australian Tourism Data Warehouse. Social media integration with Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and others. Easy product search and filter options. Event calendar with easy search features. Integration with weather zone to provide a live local weather feed. Itinerary planning tools and easy search functions where users can book all or part of their trip. Integration with Bookeasy so that visitors can make bookings live online and receive instant confirmation. Ability to download tourism marketing material including the Official Visitor Guide and Map. Newsletter subscription so stakeholders can stay up to date by receiving information and news from the Visitor Information Centre. Interactive mapping and location search features. 5
6 Promotion of packages and deals Event promotion support Tourism operators are encouraged to work together to develop packages and deals to encourage visitation to the region. Packages and deals can be promoted free of charge via the Corowa Visitor Information Centre (placement of brochure) and visitcorowashire.com.au The opportunity may also exist for these packages to be promoted on the Murray Regional Tourism website. Conditions; All partners involved in the package/ deal must subscribe to the tourism website. The package/deal is to be coordinated by the operators involved. All information about the package/ deal is to be forwarded to the VIC at least 2 weeks prior to the package/deal commencing. A booking lead (one of the operators) must be nominated to enable online bookings via the website. Corowa Shire has a vibrant calendar of events with event organisers across the region delivering quality and professional events for the enjoyment of visitors and the community. We can provide the following support to assist with the promotion of your event; Promotion of event on social media accounts (Facebook, Twitter & Instagram). In accordance with guidelines. Opportunity to display an A4, A3 or A2 event poster in the Corowa Visitor Information Centre, Howlong Library & Visitor Services, Mulwala Library & Visitor Services and Community notices boards in Corowa, Howlong & Mulwala. Distribution of event promotional material to local accommodation providers (material to be provided by event organiser). Service available once per month. Priority listing on visitcorowashire.com. au website. Distribution of event information to local media and tourism networks. Where applicable. Inclusion in monthly Calendar of Events and where applicable, Major Calendar of Events (annual publication). Opportunity to utilise window display at the Corowa Shire Civic Centre for free. Subject to availability. Supply of collateral (OVG s, maps, other relevant material) for distribution. Maximum amounts apply. Availability of online booking system to manage ticket sales. Murray Regional Tourism Board Corowa Shire Council is a financial member of the Murray Regional Tourism Board and works closely with this body to improve visitor experiences and raise awareness of offerings throughout the region.
