1 Mountain Niners Golf Club The Tee Times June 2016 MARK YOUR CALENDARS: MARK YOUR CALENDARS: June 2 Opening Day Tee Times available 10:00-11:10 June 7, 14, 21, 28 Tuesdays Niners Swing Clinics 10:30 Hello again fellow Niners! Did you know that our outstanding 9-hole golf club is only seven years old this year? Please enjoy this little snippet about how we came to be.. It all started back in 2008 when Deb Iannucci and Mary Hubbard, filled with vision and determination, petitioned IVGID, the IV Golf Courses, NNWGA, and the Secretary of State for non-profit corporate status as a golf club. In July of 2009, after mounds of paperwork and meetings, golf club status was finally achieved. From there in 2010, armed with a set of Bylaws and a tirelessly committed Board of Directors, our brand new little club, known as the Mountain Niners Golf Club, opened for business. Those original Magnificent Seven 2009 MNGC Board of Directors consisted of the following intrepid ladies: Ellie Dobler, Mary Edwards, Sue Fagan, Mary Hubbard, Deb Iannucci, Linda Woglom and Polly Wolfe. So when you see these fine folks, be sure to thank them for creating this best golf club ever, because without them, we would not be 80-plus strong and growing today. 2 Opening Luncheon June 8 It's almost Wet Woody time! Our first major event, the Opening Luncheon, will be held on June 8 th, 11:30 to 2:00, at Gar Woods in Carnelian Bay. If you haven t signed up yet, please do so by June 1 st. After that date, contact Cheryl Haney at haney.cheryl@gmail.com. The meal is included in your annual dues, and iced tea, lemonade, and coffee will be served. If you wish wine or a wonderful Wet Woody, each will cost you $8.00, tax included (not tip), so BRING CASH. If you wish to car pool, please meet at the Driving Range at 11:00. Opening Scramble June 9 Paula Garavaglia, Tournament Chair We are looking forward to seeing you on the course for the Opening Scramble on Thursday, June 9 th. This is a no-frills, no-pressure opportunity for golfers at all levels to get back into the swing of things. So, make sure you and your buddy sign up for one of the available morning tee times. The format is a fourperson scramble, so everyone in the group tees off, the ball in the best position is selected, and then everyone hits their next shot within 6 of that spot until the ball is holed out. It's easy and fun and a great way to ease into the season; so what's holding you back? Sign up before it is too late!! The sign-up deadline is June 7th. Rules/Pace of Play Clinic One of the requirements for our new Mountain Niners is that they attend a Rules/Pace of Play Clinic. This is especially true for our new golfers. However, everyone in the club is welcome to attend. Having a refresher is always a good thing. Our pro, Robyn Bradford, will be conducting this clinic out on the course on June 27 th at 4:30. The cost will be $10 per member. Please try to attend. Sign-ups are on Golf Fusion, Potlucks Cheryl Haney, Hospitality Chair June Potluck: Our first potluck of the season will be on Thursday, June 16 th, at Cindy Chamberlain s home. Her address is 445 First Green Drive. The sign-up sheet will be at the Opening Luncheon, and then the list will be posted at the Mountain Course. The wine price has gone up from $10 to $12 for the potlucks. It is important that you bring what you have signed up for, so we can plan accordingly. Swing Clinics Anne Brockman, Chair The Assistant Teaching Pro at the course holds Tuesday morning clinics exclusively for the Niners at the Driving Range at 10:30. The cost is $10 and must be paid in cash at the clinic. The schedule is on the next page, posted on our bulletin board at the Mountain Course, and will be handed out at the Opening Luncheon. This is a great way to learn and/or brush up on your game. Please sign up on Golf Fusion at

4 Mountain Golf Course Update Robyn Bradford reports that repairs have been made to our cart paths, and bunker renovations have taken place. On hole #2, the large central bunker seen from the tee box was removed, and the side bunkers were enlarged and reshaped. A lot of brush has been cut, and the creek beds were cleared. They are making an effort to make the course easier and more player friendly, including fewer native areas and shorter roughs. Robyn Bradford, Head Golf Professional, is teaching Get Golf Ready. Details will be included in the July newsletter. Save the date! Sweeps Judy Cabito, Chair Games During the 2016 season you ll play games in which you can win prize money. If all goes as planned, the information for each game will be in the cart at the beginning of play. Games include but are not limited to: Flights, Three Blind Mice and Most 3, 4, 5, & 6s. Games will be played on the front and back nine. These games require nothing from our members other than keeping track of your score. Scorecards - Please, please, please, follow these steps for filling out the scorecards: For each tee time, two complete scorecards are required. Both cards will list the golfers names, and each cart will have a scorecard. One player in each cart will fill in the scores on the card, commonly referred to as the marker. At the end of the round, all members should check to make sure the scorecards have matching numbers and the same totals. The marker should sign the card and then have it attested by another member of the group. Turn the scorecards into the Mountain Niners mailbox in the hallway outside the pro-shop. If there are just two players in the group, both copies of the scorecard need to be turned in. (If you want to keep a record of your scores, you can fill out an additional card.) The more you play, the more opportunity you have to win, and of course, by coming out you ll get to meet more of our fabulous members.

6 Handicap Judy Cabito, Chair - Mary Hubbard & Karen Gabriel, Committee Members Posting As mentioned in the May newsletter, the handicap system is what evens out the playing field for all golfers. Posting scores to GHIN is a very important part of the game. GHIN s database maintains your ongoing record, calculates your progress, and produces your Handicap/Index. It s the Handicap Chair s responsibility to see that the posted scores are correct and timely posted. So, in saying that, as in the 2015 season, the Handicap Committee will again be posting your Mountain Niner Golf Club Play Days to GHIN for you. You will only be responsible for games not played with the Mountain Niner Golf Club. If you d like to learn more about Handicaps and Indexes, I can send you a white sheet with definitions. Remember our pro, Robyn Bradford, is a fountain of information and knowledge and will always help you. Don t be caught shirtless: Mountain Niners shirts come in sizes XS-2XL and will have our Mountain Niner logo. The light blue 3 /4 sleeve is $38 The ultramarine sleeveless is $32 The sea foam cotton polo is $40 All prices are approximate and include tax and shipping. There is a sign-up sheet on our bulletin board at the Mountain Course. Any questions? Call Linda Woglom at Personal Best Tourney JUST DO IT!! Linda Woglom, Chair Each golf season, the club holds a tournament where you will be doing your Personal Best six times throughout our season to improve your scores on each hole we play. Information on the game will be passed out at the Opening Luncheon and afterward will be in an envelope on our bulletin board for members who were not at the luncheon. If you have any questions, contact Linda at or woglomlin@aol.com. This is a FUN tournament for ALL golfing members, it is included in your dues, and offers you a chance to win $CASH$.

7 Golf Fusion Mary Hubbard, Chair All of our tournaments, tee times, and events are reserved through Golf Fusion. Each member is registered on our website. If you are having trouble getting into the site or can t remember your Username and/or Password, please contact Mary Hubbard at or mahubb@pacbell.net. Tee Times and Use of Golf Fusion Dianne De Cuir, Vice President and Tee-Times Chair Golf Fusion is ready for members to sign up for tee times and other Niner events. Our tee times this season are: Monday afternoons: 1:00-2:10 p.m. and Thursday mornings: 10:00 a.m.-11:10 p.m. Don t miss out on the following early events: Thursday, June 2, Opening Day for Niners, 10:00-11:10 a.m. Monday, June 6, Open Play, 1:00-2:10 p.m. Wednesday, June 8, Luncheon at Gar Woods Grill & Pier, 11:30 a.m.-2:00 p.m. Thursday, June 9, Opening Scramble, 10:00 a.m. shotgun start Thursday, June 16, Mixie, 10:00-11:10 a.m., followed by potluck luncheon at Cindy Chamberlain s house NOTE: If you miss a Golf Fusion deadline when signing up for an event or round of play, me at diannedecuir@me.com. I ll do my best to find you a slot. IMPORTANT: All players need to verify their tee times on Golf Fusion on the morning of play because sometimes small scheduling adjustments have to be made. We will do our best to minimize these changes. Birdie Pins By Patti Clark The next time you are at the Mountain Course, check out the Niners' Bulletin Board. There are special items for you to see. They are a Birdie Tree and a Chip-In collection of Nuts. These are to celebrate ladies that get a Birdie and/or a Chip-In during our scheduled regulation play. Sunshine By Judy Forsmo Please contact Judy Forsmo, panamjudy@att.net if you know of any member who could use a little sunshine in her life for one reason or another. A card from the club will be sent to her.
