4 Studying at Morling Morling College is committed to equipping the whole believer to take the whole gospel to the whole world. Today s culture is changing rapidly and the issues we face are becoming more complex each day. At Morling, we understand that a detailed biblical and theological framework is essential in order to serve Christ effectively. Our diverse faculty members are committed to preparing everyone the Lord sends us to lead and serve in this changing world. Morling offers courses of study to prepare you for ministry and mission as you explore where God is leading you. We will prepare you to apply your studies within your profession, and equip you with the skills needed to influence the world. Australian College of Theology Morling is affiliated with the Australian College of Theology (ACT) (CRICOS Provider 02650E). The ACT is a consortium of Theological and Bible Colleges in Australia and New Zealand. Cross-Credit In your application, please tell us about any prior theological study you may have done, providing relevant transcripts and supporting documentation. The ACT requires that crosscredit from other studies be organised at the beginning of any Course. Please contact our Academic Registrar or the Director of Online Education (Bible & Theology) for further details, and bear in mind the necessity of confirming previous course credits before beginning a Course. Fees Full Tuition Fee information can be found on the Morling website, while basic details are included on our enrolment forms. Morling generously subsidises the Unit fees set by the ACT for Australian residents and these subsidies are reflected in our Fee Schedule. Further information can be found on the ACT website. Payments Morling offers a variety of payment options (Upfront, Instalment Plan, and FEE-HELP) along with a range of payment methods (Direct Transfer, BPay, online, in-person, cheque & phone). These are explained in detail on our website. International Students Morling welcomes students from all over the world and we offer a range of support services and information to help students succeed in their studies. Before applying to study at Morling, all International Students should carefully read all of the International Student information on the Morling website, and the detailed information on other websites where links are provided. Austudy Full-time students may be eligible for Austudy. A Unit load of three Units per semester is considered a full-time load for the purposes of Austudy/ABStudy. Please enquire about your personal eligibility with your nearest Centrelink office. Assessments and Exams Assessments at Morling normally involve both written assignments and examinations. All assessment tasks are to be completed by the dates set in the Unit outline. Essays and assignments should be uploaded on Moodle (our online platform). Exam Week dates are published every year in the Academic Calendar and the on-campus exam timetable is published in the first week back from mid-semester break every semester. Special arrangements can be made for online students who cannot attend exam sessions on campus to complete exams remotely. Study hours per week While study demands will vary somewhat from Unit to Unit, we conservatively estimate that you will need a minimum of seven-to-ten hours of study per Unit per week. This figure includes reading the notes provided, textbook chapters, and other readings, as well as the completion of your various assessment tasks. Computer Requirements To study at Morling, you will need access to a computer running Microsoft Windows operating system (or an Android tablet) and an internet browser (either Internet Explorer, Chrome, or Firefox). You will also need access to an address that will accept attachments this address must be checked at least once a week throughout the semester. Adobe Acrobat pdf reader is also required in order to access readings, course-related documents, etc. Unfortunately, we are currently unable to offer technical support for Apple products (ipad, MacBook etc.) or the Safari or Opera internet browsers. 4
5 Textbooks Generally speaking, each Unit will have one or two recommended textbooks that will be highlighted in your Unit outline. Please note that some theological textbooks are quite expensive; online bookstores may be helpful as not all textbooks are available from local bookstores that specialise in mass-market Christian books. Many of our assigned textbooks are also available in the Library. Library The Morling Library can provide you with access to a variety of printed, electronic, and online material, ranging from course material and required readings to both general Christian literature and specialist documents useful for research projects and assignments. Morling students have access to a comprehensive Library designed with their education in mind and the Library team offers willing assistance in locating the required material. The Morling Library catalogue is online and all students can access journal articles through the Library catalogue. Library books can also be sent out to students living remotely in Australia, though due to the time taken in postage, Library books will not be sent to students living overseas. 7 Study Options Study Options Part-time A part-time load consists of a maximum enrolment of 8 credit points (normally two Units) per semester. If you would like to study part-time with us, please download and complete a part-time application form, these are available on our website. Full-time A standard full-time load comprises an enrolment of 16 credit points (normally four Units) per semester, but 12 credit points is also considered full-time. In addition to enrolled Units, as a full-time on-campus student you will be required to participate in a Transformational Discipleship Group, weekly chapel services, prayer triplets, mentoring, church visits, Orientation week activities, as well as a Partnership Mission and/or a Missions Conference. If you would like to study full-time with us, please download and complete a full-time application form from our website. You will then proceed through the full-time application process, which includes an in-person interview for local students, or a phone interview for those unable to be on campus. Delivery Modes At Morling, we offer a range of flexible study options to help you complete your chosen course. Please refer to the Units section of this booklet for details about specific delivery modes. See below for a brief explanation of these delivery modes: On-campus On-campus lectures are held mornings, afternoons, and evenings (6.45pm-9.30pm) during the semester. Students can study either part-time or full-time and may combine oncampus study with online study throughout their course. However, each individual Unit must be taken as either fully on-campus or fully online. Online Our online Units allow you to study from the convenience of your own home, anywhere in the world. Online Unit codes are denoted with a D. Please ensure that you place the D after your Unit code in all correspondence, as lecturers and assignments may differ from on-campus study Units. Intensive Intensives run on-campus in one-week blocks during Summer School (which takes place in the weeks before Semester 1) or Winter School (in the weeks before Semester 2). These are a great way to complete all of your in-class requirements in a short period of time. Please speak with your course advisor to find out if your course has any limits on the number of Intensives you may complete. Intensive Units are denoted with an i. Please ensure that you place the i after your Unit code in all correspondence, as the lecturers and assignments may differ to on-campus study Units. 7 Semi-intensive Much like Intensives, Semi-intensives are a great way of completing your in-class requirements in a short space of time. These are four-to-five full-day blocks of study spread throughout the semester. Please speak with your course advisor to find out if your course has any limits on the number of Semi-intensives you may complete. Semiintensive Units are denoted with an i. Please ensure that you place the i after your Unit code in all correspondence, as the lecturers and assignments may differ to on-campus study Units.
8 How to Enrol 1. Apply Before enrolling for the first time at Morling, you first need to submit an application. Full-time and Part-time Application Forms are available on the Morling website and should be sent to the Registrar s Office, along with any requested supporting documentation. Please send these applications as early as possible before the commencement of a new semester. As mentioned previously, applications for full-time students will normally include an interview (either by phone or in-person). *Cross-institutional students who are taking a one-off Morling Unit towards an accredited course at another institution or an ACT course at another ACT affiliated college do not need to submit an application. Please contact the Registrar s Office for information on this form of enrolment. Students who have previously been accepted as a part-time student and who wish to increase to a full-time load may need to submit a full-time application. Please contact the Registrar s Office before submitting a full-time enrolment. 2. Choose Units It is your responsibility to ensure that the Units you choose each semester fulfil the requirements of your particular course. You also need to ensure that you fulfil any pre- or co-requisite requirements relating to the Units you select. Please refer to the course and Unit offering information that follows before completing your Enrolment Form. In future semesters, you can also refer to the Course Planning Information on Moodle or contact your Morling Course Advisor if you have any questions about your course progression. If you are a new student commencing study, we would recommend that you begin with the required core Units, such as the introductory Units in New or Old Testament and Church History. These are pre-requisites for many of our Units. We also encourage you to attend our Academic Writing & Study Skills intensive (MC101) before the Semester begins. 3. Enrol Once you have been accepted as a student, please complete the Morling Enrolment Form, indicating which Units you propose to study. Forms are available in hard copy from the college or can be downloaded from the Morling website or Moodle. Be sure to indicate what mode of study you require, whether on-campus or online. Forms may be posted or ed to the Registrar s Office, and must include signatures where requested. Please submit your enrolment as soon as possible after acceptance. Re-enrolment by continuing students will incur an Admin Fee of $125 for enrolments received after the published Enrolment Due Date. Enrolment after Week 2 of the semester will only be accepted under exceptional circumstances. 4. Withdrawing from or Changing Units Sometimes you may need to withdraw from a Unit, or change your Unit choices after you have already enrolled. This should be done by submitting an Enrolment Variation Form to the Registrar s Office telling your lecturer or making changes on Moodle is not enough. Enrolment Variation Forms are available from the Students Forms file on Moodle. There may be fees and academic penalties associated with changing your enrolment, depending on when you submit the Variation Form. Students should refer to the Important Dates information on Unit outlines and the Student Handbook, as well as taking careful note of your confirmation of enrolment. Please note that dates for Intensives, Semi-Intensives and Year-Long Units may be different to the dates for regular semester Units. 8
