Catalog 39 PROFESSIONAL STUDIES During the history of Central Christian College of the Bible, its mission has been consistent: to develop servant-leaders for the church. A servant-leader is informed, inquisitive, creative, and skilled. Professional Studies courses take students on a journey from introducing various ministries as a profession to the concepts, attitudes, and skills that will help them be effective in their chosen field. Professional Studies courses equip students for discipleship and entry-level vocational ministry. Student Outcomes 1.! Display a breadth of general knowledge of ministry and leadership. 2.! Determine biblical and effective approaches to ministry and leadership for the contemporary church. 3.! Lead people to salvation in Jesus Christ and equip them for active service in the body of Christ. 4.! Conduct a biblical ministry sensitive to historical, social, and cultural contexts. 5.! Communicate the Bible clearly and contextually. 6.! Identify the biblical values that guide ethical conduct in professional responsibilities. 7.! Exhibit the character and gifts of a Christ-like servant-leader. Requirements Several types of Professional Studies courses are included in the degrees and course descriptions. Common Courses: All degrees require Christian Discipleship (PCM100) and Principles of Evangelism (PCM222). Those courses provide direction in the common goals of all ministry students: personal spiritual growth and the ability to evangelize and disciple others. Ministry Program Requirements: Each ministry major or minor has its own required courses, starting with a Foundations course (usually taken during the second semester of the second year). Specific ministry courses in theory, methods, administration, and leadership are also required. Each ministry program includes three designated courses within the Biblical Studies and General Studies requirements that are considered part of the major requirements. Majors: The BA and BS degrees develop a major made up of 36.5 credits of study in a specific ministry discipline. Course requirements for majors are listed in Section 2 of this catalog. Available majors include: Biblical Research, Christian Counseling, Christian Education, Christian Ministries, Cross-cultural Ministry, Preaching Ministry, and Youth & Family Ministry. Minors: A student may add a minor to an onsite bachelor s degree to seek expertise and credentialing in an area beyond the major. Minors are an additional 15 credits of study, which may require careful planning and enrollment beyond four years. Specialized Minors are extended internships that are

40 Central Christian College of the Bible completed with a ministry that partners with CCCB. Course requirements for minors are listed in Sections 2 & 3 of this catalog. Available minors include: Biblical Languages, Biblical Research, Campus Ministry, Christian Communication, Christian Community Development, Christian Education, Cross-cultural Ministry, Pastoral Counseling, Worship Arts, and Youth & Family Ministry. Service & Leadership Training (SALT) In keeping with our mission, Central has developed a curriculum that introduces students to various aspects of leadership, even before they reach the professional studies part of their education. SALT courses expose students to a variety of principles and practical experiences that are preparatory to full-time ministry. SALT101 SALT102 SALT200 Serving in Community emphasizes the need for genuine relationships in God s Kingdom. Biblical Leadership challenges students to think of themselves as leaders and introduces them to basic principles of spiritual leadership. Ministry in the Local Church incorporates the contents of multiple SALT courses for online students to take in one semester. SALT Leadership Ministries courses expose students to service opportunities in their areas of ministry study through interaction with practitioners, knowledge of pioneers in the field, awareness of personal gifts, and planning their course of study. Each course provides a vision of the outcomes of pursuing that major and creates a map for how to achieve that vision. SALT Elective SALT courses focus on subjects relevant to ministry and life including Grace & Forgiveness, Personal Finance, Marriage Preparation, and more. SALT300 Vocational Preparation prepares the student to find and benefit from a supervised ministry experience in their chosen field of professional studies. SALT Field Education Experience/Leadership Apprenticeship allows students to apply their professional training in service with experienced practitioners in a significant personal ministry experience. Academic credit, length and timing of the internship vary according to degree. SALT375 Personal Assessment guides the student, in the last year of study, to reflect on the progress made in the past and looks ahead to moving from college to professional service.

BACHELOR S DEGREES Catalog 41 Central Christian College of the Bible offers three bachelor s degrees, the Bachelor of Arts, the Bachelor of Science, and the Bachelor of Religious Studies. The Bachelor of Arts (BA) degree contains an undergraduate curriculum of 132 credits that includes both a Bible major and a ministry major. The BA degree also requires 15 credits in the biblical languages of Hebrew (Old Testament) and Greek (New Testament). This degree is designed to enable students to engage in biblical studies at the highest level to emphasize Bible teaching in their leadership ministry. It typically requires four years of full-time study to graduate. The Bachelor of Science (BS) degree is our most popular degree. It prepares students for entry-level professional employment in a church or parachurch ministry. The BS is similar to the BA, with a significant difference: the biblical languages requirement is reduced to 3 credits and replaced by additional Biblical Studies and General Studies courses. It also contains an undergraduate curriculum of 132 credits, including a Bible major and a ministry major. The BS degree typically requires four years of full-time study to graduate. The Bachelor of Science in Bible (BSB), contains the same 54-credit Bible major in an online version of the BS. However, it does not develop a ministry major. The BSB is intended for a servant-leader actively working in a local congregation or ministry who wants to develop a richer understanding of the Bible and ministry. This 121-credit curriculum can typically be completed in four years of full-time study. The Bachelor of Religious Studies (BRS) degree is a 128-credit program for students who have earned significant college credit from a college other than Central. A student who transfers 60 hours of college credit or an associate degree can earn a BRS degree by taking 68 hours of credit from CCCB. The transfer credits may be taken before enrolling at Central, while a student attends Central (through a partner college), or after a student finishes Central s requirements. There are two versions of the BRS degree. The BRS-Christian Leadership is for a student who has taken 60 transferrable credits (36 credits of general studies and 24 credits of open electives), but has not developed a professional emphasis. Students who earn this degree may be employed by a local congregation or in a ministry organization. Students in this degree program are required to complete a Christian Leadership Apprenticeship. In order to enroll in the BRS-Christian Leadership: 1.! Students must have attended at least two years of college at an accredited institution besides Central. 2.! Students must have earned at least 36 credits of approved general studies courses with grades of C- or above at an accredited institution. 3.! Students must have earned at least 24 credits of approved open elective courses with grades of C- or above at an accredited institution.

42 Central Christian College of the Bible The BRS-Missional Occupations is for students who have taken or will take up to 60 hours of study that includes a professional emphasis. This may be in the form of a bachelor s degree, an associate degree, or a certificate. Students who pursue this degree are challenged to utilize their professional emphasis in a ministry context. While a student remains enrolled at Central, the Full-Tuition Scholarship covers tuition expenses at a partner institution in Section 3. ASSOCIATE DEGREES Associate degrees give students an introduction to biblical studies along with another emphasis in two years of study. Students who earn an associate degree are qualified for entry-level positions in the local congregation or community. They may continue their education at Central or elsewhere in pursuit of a bachelor s degree. Central offers three associate degrees. The Associate of Biblical Studies (ABS) degree requires credits to equip students with a solid biblical and theological foundation for servant-leadership and teaching within the local church. The curriculum is designed to prepare students for service in volunteer or bi-vocational ministries. The ABS degree typically requires two years of full-time study to graduate. The Associate of Professional Studies (APS) degree requires credits to give students a biblical and theological foundation for servant-leadership while training for a career using the vocational training available at a community college. The curriculum is designed to prepare students for service in volunteer or bi-vocational ministries. The APS degree typically requires two years of fulltime study to graduate. The Associate of Worship Arts (AWA) is a 63-credit degree of intense worship training, designed to equip students with a solid biblical and theological foundation for servant-leadership and worship-leading within the local church. The curriculum is designed to prepare students for service in part-time or fulltime worship ministry. The AWA degree typically requires two years of full-time study to graduate.

CERTIFICATES Catalog 43 In addition to associate and bachelor s degrees, Central provides opportunities for students to earn certificates. These shorter programs are available for vocational training, biblical knowledge, and specialized ministry opportunities. Though a certificate may be the main credential used when seeking employment, most likely it will be a supplemental credential which demonstrates that the student has mastered basic material on a subject. The Certificate of Bible and Ministry (CBM) provides short-term training in biblical, spiritual, and ministry matters that can be used for personal development and church leadership. This is a 16-credit certificate. The Certificate of Biblical Knowledge (CBK) introduces students to biblical, spiritual, and theological issues necessary for basic servant-leadership in a local congregation. The curriculum is designed to provide personal development as well as preparation to teach others. This is a 31-credit certificate. The Children s Ministry Certificate (CMC) prepares students to serve the church by specializing in the care and teaching of children from birth to sixth grade. Those completing this certificate are equipped to lead children s ministries. This certificate adds 15 credits of study in Children s ministry to the CBK for a total of 46 credits. It can also be added to a BA, BS, or BRS degree. Specific requirements are listed in Section 3. The Teacher Preparation Certificate (TPC) provides public school teacher certification through the American Board for Certification of Teacher Excellence (ABCTE). Students who qualify for and complete the TPC may be certified to teach in up to eleven states. This certificate is completed in conjunction with a bachelor s degree. Specific requirements are listed in Section 3. The TESOL Certificate gives students theoretical and practical knowledge for teaching English to non-native speakers of English ( Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages ). This certificate is completed in conjunction with a bachelor s degree. Specific requirements are listed in Section 3.
