1 PTA Post Highland Ranch Elementary School October 2013 President s Message Hey there, Stallions Can you believe that October is here? We are off to a wonderful start this year. I am so happy to see the wheels in motion for our PTA programs. We've had a family picnic, organized our room parents, taken school pictures, held an assembly, conducted our book fair, and held the Reflections art program. In addition, our fall festival, Howlapalooza, is almost here I want to thank the chairpeople of these committees for their dedication as well as all the families who supported and attended these events One of our top goals this year is to bring our families together positively, and the best way to get that done is to provide you with timely and up to date information This month, the fall fundraiser and our membership campaign are in full swing. Thank you to everyone who has participated in our fall fundraiser and contributed to our direct donation "non-fundraiser" fundraiser. If you haven t joined the PTA yet or signed up to help out, now s the time. Every penny, every membership, and every minute you can give MATTERS Thank you to the members and volunteers that have already signed up. Your support is greatly appreciated. 2 Thank you for making our PTA-sponsored book fair a huge success Our total sales for the week came to $10, A note of thanks to our principal, Mrs. Venolia, for her constant support and for her Book Talks. Thanks also to our teachers and parents for their continued support Also, a special thank you to all our volunteers who made this event happen. We could not have done it without you If you did not get a chance to visit our fair (or you just want to keep shopping), you can check out our online fair, which will be open until Friday, October 4 th : ghlandranches. You ll find an expanded selection of books for the whole family, from preschool to adults. Also, all orders ship to the school for FREE, and each purchase benefits our school library. Thank you for your support. VOLUNTEERS There are many PTA volunteer opportunities throughout the school year. If you filled out a PTA volunteer sheet at the beginning of school, you should have received at least one regarding volunteer opportunities. If you haven t been receiving information about volunteering and you want to, please e- mail Christy Grider (cgriderca@gmail.com) and request to be added to the volunteer list. 4 The 2013 Annual Fall Festival Howlapalooza at Highland Ranch Elementary School (HRES) will take place on Saturday, October 26 th from 4:00-7:00 p.m. We are making this event bigger and better than ever This year, we are adding two inflatable slides and a rock wall. We are also bringing in our local police and fire departments. Sam Rasoul ( Think Sam, Keller Williams Realty), an HRES parent, has generously offered to provide a pumpkin patch photo opportunity at the festival. Invite your extended family, friends, and neighbors to come enjoy family friendly games and activities, including a pumpkin carving contest (carved at home and then brought to the festival for judging), costume contests, music, and a variety of food. As in past years, we will have basket raffles and a silent auction (we currently have a four-pack of SeaWorld tickets and a night for two at the Doubletree Golf Resort to auction) to raise funds for our school. This event is open to the entire community, not just HRES families. 5 Howlapalooza Tickets Tickets for Howlapalooza will begin selling this month on Wednesdays after school and Friday mornings at Friday flag. You can also fill out the attached form and send it in with your child. Checks can be made out to HRES PTA. 7 Highland Ranch Elementary School Red Ribbon Week Monday, October 21, to Friday, October 25 Monday Wear: As much red as you can Red Rally Day. The Broncos will be visiting the school to talk to the children. Tuesday Wear: Hats and Sunglasses Hats off to good choices and shade out drugs Wednesday Wear: Red, White, and Blue United we stand against drugs Thursday Wear: Neon or bright colors - Too bright to do drugs Friday Wear: Odd shoes and socks Stand up and sock it to drugs Walk to School Day An essay competition for 4 th and 5 th grade will be starting on Friday, October 18th. Essays must be turned in by Wednesday, October 23rd. A coloring competition for kindergarten, TK, 1 st, 2 nd and 3 rd grade will also be starting on Friday October 18 th. All entries must be in by Wednesday, October 23rd. The essay and coloring sheets will be available on the HRES website beginning on Friday, October 18th. Prizes will be awarded on Friday, October 25th.

8 In honor of Red Ribbon Week, MADD (Mothers Against Drunk Driving) will be doing a parent workshop on Thursday, October 24th at 7pm in the MPR. Everyone is welcome.
