1 PLEASE READ AND POST IN HOMEROOM TRUMBULL HIGH SCHOOL A DAY STUDENT BULLETIN WEDNESDAY, JANUARY 28, 2015 The meeting for anyone interested in CREW for the spring musical, Hello, Dolly! has been rescheduled for TODAY! It will be immediately after school in Portable 173. You must attend this meeting to sign up for a crew position. Please see FBI National Academy Associates 2015 Youth Leadership Program Youth Leadership Program The FBI National Academy Associates, Inc. (FBINAA) hosts a week long training event for high school students at the FBI Academy every summer called the Youth Leadership Program (YLP). Qualified candidates must be 14, 15, or 16 years old at the start date of the program. NO EXCEPTIONS WILL BE MADE TO THE AGE REQUIREMENT. Each of our 48 chapters may elect to send a student to represent their chapter during this prestigious program. To be selected, a student must have demonstrated high academic standards and good citizenship, and they must be nominated by an FBINA graduate in good standing. Chapter representatives interview the candidates and select their choice to attend the program. The candidates qualifications are reviewed by the Executive Office and the YLP Coordinator, who make the final selection. The program is made possible through the cooperation of the FBI, and both tuition and lodging are free. Each chapter pays for their candidate s travel expenses, and most chapters send some spending money with the student. While the program is not offered exclusively for those choosing a career in law enforcement, interested candidates should possess a desire to gain knowledge in the American system of criminal justice, including police organization, leadership and the structure and operation of criminal courts. Participants will also be expected to share the knowledge gained with their peers following completion of the program. Individuals interested in attending the Youth Leadership Program (YLP) are requested to contact their local chapter officers for further information. The 2015 YLP Program is scheduled for June 19-26, Contact Mrs. Tyszka in the career center ATTENTION INTERACT MEMBERS: We will be meeting on Wednesday, January 28 th at 2:30 in the Career Center to put together our goody bags as well as hold elections. See you there! Don t forget Club Picture Day is Tuesday, January 27 th!

2 Next FRENCH CLUB meeting will be on Thursday, January 29 th. A Half the Year Celebration in Room C-21!!! Games, Food, Fun and French!!! Also, on February 12 th we will have a pastry chef teaching us how to make YUMMY desserts!!!!! Registration forms for the February 17 th DRIVER S ED CLASSES are available in the Main Office and outside the Driver s Ed Office. Students must be 16 years old by February 17 th to register. Please return completed registration forms to Mr. Romano s mailbox in the Main Office or the Driver s Ed Office. For additional information, please see Mr. Romano JUNIORS AND SENIORS who received or who have the February 6 th HCC field trip application, please return to the Career Center no later than Friday, January 30 th. Applications are still available in the Career Center. ATTENTION NHS and MATH-PEER TUTORS Please stop by the Media Center and see Mrs. Raccuia or Mr. Pelligra to sign up for 2 nd semester hours. Sign in sheets have been re-located to the back of the Media Center. Our club photo for the Yearbook will be on the 27 th. SENIORS: The deadline to order your cap and gown for graduation is February 1 st. Order forms are available in each house office and on the THS website under the Graduation tab. Cost is $45. Get your orders in now if you plan on walking in the graduation ceremony. NO orders will be accepted after February 1 st! COMMUNITY SERVICE OPPORTUNITY - Save the Date! Daniels Farm School 5th Grade Game Night Friday, February 27, 2015 (Snow Date 3/6/15) 7:00-9:00 pm Daniels Farm School Parents and child will participate in many fun activities (Mat Ball, Family Feud, Minute to Win It, Who s Smarter than a Fifth Grader) We are looking for 12 THS students to help us with the event from 6:30 until 9pm. They will be assigned to each game / or will rotate with each class and will help with check in and the reception at the end. If interested, please see Mr. McLaughlin. Connecticut PTA and Nutmeg Statewide PTA (NSPTA) are pleased to announce that they are offering 4 scholarship opportunities to graduating seniors from PTAIPTSA high schools. Each high school PTNPTSA may send one applicant for each scholarship. See Mrs. McFarland or Ms. Farber with any questions. COMMUNITY SERVICE OPPORTUNITY: Booth Hill School is looking for volunteers to help with their Annual Super Bowl Breakfast. Pancake Palooza. Assistance is needed on Sunday, February 1 st from 7am-12pm with set up, serving, clean up, running games and face painting. Interested volunteers should contact John Egan at jkeganjr@aol.com. CREATIVE MINDS will meet again on January 28 th. Members MUST bring any art/writing submissions, either your own or a friend s, for review for the magazine. ATTENTION JUNIORS AND SENIORS: If you have LATE ARRIVAL or EARLY DISMISSAL for Semester 2, you must complete a new permission slip and turn it in to your counselor. Forms are available in all house offices. Students wishing to purchase an EAGLE S EYE T-SHIRT should fill out this form: The estimated cost of the shirts will be between $15- $18, including shipping but an exact cost will only be known once the order is complete. See Mr. Pelligra or one of the editors for more details. Come and see VOICE FRIDAY, JANUARY 30, 2015 at 6 pm. TICKETS AVAILABLE NOW IN Room C-31 (McCaff s room) for $3.00. This poetry performance is part drama, part poetry it is a performance that captures the voices of high school students like you. Come and follow the journey of one student who struggles to find her voice. This is the first performance of its kind at THS, so come and support the arts and your fellow students as they give VOICE to our adolescents. PAY IT FORWARD is coming to THS. What does this mean for you? Possibly that someone out there is going to make you feel great/special/important/loved/appreciated/respected and YOU will do the same for

4 someone else. Check out this awesome video for more information. There will be a ski trip to MT. SNOW on Saturday, March 7 th sponsored by the Nichols Improvement Association. ATTENTION SENIORS: Applications for the Mr. and Miss Shamrock contest will be available in each Guidance Office starting today. Irish decent and history, family traditions, involvement in community, interests and activities will play an important role in the selection. Contestants will be interviewed. A monetary scholarship will be awarded. You will be expected to attend the St. Patrick s Day Parade and Dance. See Mr. Matthews in B23 for further information and/or questions. ATTENTION SENIORS If you are a senior who is planning on pursuing a career in Education, Medical/Health Sciences, Engineering, or a Vocational Field, please pick up an application for a Weller Foundation Scholarship in B House Guidance. Application deadline is February 20, See Mrs. McEnaney with any questions. CLUB PHOTOS are coming on Tuesday, January 27 th, which is a D-Day (snow day 1/29). Schedules will be posted shortly before the big day. Please check the schedule and arrive in the auditorium 1-2 minutes before your scheduled time. THE COVE GRIEF SESSIONS SESSIONS WILL BE HELD IN THE MAIN OFFICE CONFERENCE ROOM AND THE ATHLETIC CONFERENCE ROOM Tuesday, February 3 rd 10:00 am 11:00 am, period 4 Session # 8 THE DRIVER S LICENSE ROAD TEST is available at Trumbull High School scheduled by the Department of Motor Vehicles. Applicants need to have completed all requirements, by the test date, to be eligible. Fees are $75.00 payable to THS Driver Education. A minimum of 2 hours behind the wheel instruction at $45.00 per hour. $40 payable to the DMV if applicant previously failed the road test. Available dates as of January 15, 2015 are:

5 March 5 th and 18 th April 1 st and 28 th May 13 th and 27th Applications for the Road Test are available outside the Driver s Education Office. All paper work must be complete before the appointment can be confirmed. All behind the wheel instruction needs to be completed by the test date. Plan ahead.
