3 Bright House Networks easy gadget for Desktop PC/MAC With easy gadget from Bright House Networks, your Bright House phone is no longer just a telephone. You now have a useful and simple tool that turns your current phone into an easy to use, state- of- the art communicarons device from anywhere you are connected to the Internet. easy gadget from Bright House Networks is supported on all ios devices (iphone, ipad, and ipod Touch), Android phones and tablets, Windows PC and Macintosh computers. All services provided through easy gadget for the mobile devices are the same as those provided for easy gadget on the PC and MAC, plus a few more. All calls, voic s, text messages and contacts for a each user account phone number are viewable and configurable on all devices at the same Rme. Furthermore, all changes to call history, contacts, voic s, call forward sewngs and caller ID to mobile sewngs for a single user account phone number are instantly accessible anyrme from any device. Text Messaging history and access is also available online via My Services at Easy gadget is another way Bright House Networks is making your life easier. 8 Installing easy gadget for Desktop PC/MAC To install easy gadget, visit brighthouse.com (Home Phone) or business.brighthouse.com/ home.html (Business Phone) and select My Services from the home page. Then, log in and follow the link under the Phone SecRon of My Services to download easy gadget. Business Solutions My Services If you don t already have a My Services login, you will be able to create one in My Services. Note to complete the crearon of a secure login, you must have your account number and customer code located on your Bright House Networks bill. Once you login, you will be presented with the End User License Agreement for easy gadget. You must click on Agree at the bokom of the Agreement in order to proceed to installaron. From the easy gadget installaron badge on the right, click on Install Now (See below). You will be prompted to complete an installaron of Adobe Air sonware with easy gadget. Please select all prompts for Install, Open, ConRnue and Agree to the Adobe License Agreement to complete the installaron. The install badge will tell you when you are finished. You will be presented with the Login screen on your computer desktop. Residential My Services 8

9 Logging In Login Screen To use easy gadget, enter your Bright House Networks My Services username and password. Forgot Username or Password, or to establish a new Username and Password Click either Forgot Username or Password on the login screen. You will then be asked whether you have a Home Phone or Business Phone account. Click the appropriate opron, and a web page will open to assist you in obtaining your username or password. Automa3cally log into easy gadget By clicking the Remember Login box, you will automarcally be logged in to easy gadget every Rme you start the applicaron. easy gadget will save your username and password. If you change your mind and want to enter your informaron every Rme, you can change this in the SeWngs tab (once you have logged in). Select your phone number (if you have more than one on your account) If you have more than one phone number on your account, a list of your Bright House Networks phone numbers will be displayed. If you have more than one number, select the number you wish to monitor for easy gadget. You can always return to this list to select another number on your account. 10 End User License Agreement To use easy gadget the first Rme, you must first Agree to the End User License Agreement before proceeding to use the app. Whenever there is an update to the End User License Agreement, you will be prompted to view and Agree to a new version to conrnue to use easy gadget. 10

11 Naviga3on Main Task Bar The applicaron main taskbar sits on the desktop or is minimized to the toolbar for quick single- click access to all funcrons. At the top of the main taskbar, you can see the phone number being monitored, open the easy gadget Support web site by clicking on the logo, minimize easy gadget and close easy gadget. Mul/ple Numbers: If you have more than one number on your account, you can click on the back arrow to return to the Phone number list to select a different number to use with easy gadget. Recents: Keep in touch with family, friends, customers, and important contacts through an online call history that lets you create and edit contacts, and respond to recent calls by calling or texrng. You can now delete calls from the Recents call list. See page 16. Contacts: CreaRng contacts in easy gadget allows you to personalize your caller ID alerts and voic descriprons by assigning unique nicknames, pictures and ringtones to your family, friends and important business associates. See page 17. Voic Listen to your voic on your computer wherever you are. With visual voic , you can see all of your stored voic messages and listen to the messages in any order you choose. See page 18. Text Messaging: Compose and send SMS text messages to any mobile phone in the US and to other easy gadget users. You can also receive SMS text messages from any mobile phone in the US and other easy gadget users. See page 19. Directory Search: Search our online directory for free. Look up a phone number for a business with free online directory search. See page 20. Incoming Call & Text Alerts: The easy gadget caller ID and New Text alert (somermes referred to as a toaster pop- up), displays in the bokom right- hand corner of the PC monitor for approximately 15 seconds when a new text message or incoming call is received by your Bright House Phone. If the you have entered the caller/text sender in Contacts along with a picture and ringtone, the nickname of the caller/sender will appear in the alert along with the picture and the ringtone will play. NOTE: easy gadget must be running and you must be logged in to receive the incoming call/text alert. 11

12 Universal Call and Text Instruc3ons for easy gadget Desktop App Click- to- Call Click- to- Call can be inirated from a Recent call, Voic or Contact. Click- to- Call automarcally rings the user s Bright House phone and connects the call to the number selected by the user. The Bright House phone will ring and the user will need to pick up the phone to complete the call. The message in Figure 1 on the right will be displayed on the screen. Click- to- Call will only work for valid 10- digit phone numbers in the US. It will not work for or If a call is akempted to , then the the message in Figure 2 on the right will be displayed on the screen. 13 General Se]ngs General Se]ngs SeIngs is accessible on the bokom bar of any open menu item. Just click on a menu item on the taskbar. Then click on the General tab. On Startup Open applica3on at computer startup Eliminate startup steps by selecrng automarc startup and have easy gadget ready for use when you start your PC just start your PC and easy gadget is wairng for you. Remember login informa3on Have easy gadget open and ready on your desktop when you start easy gadget. No more remembering usernames and passwords. Desktop Setup To display a pop- up on your computer screen s bokom right- hand corner when you have an incoming call on your Bright House phone, check the box to the len of Display Caller ID on PC No3fica3on. Reduce cluker on your taskbar. You can configure easy gadget to minimize only to the system tray by clicking on the box next to Minimize to system tray only. To minimize the applicaron to both the taskbar and the system tray, uncheck the box. Default Ringtone If you want to play the same Ringtone for all contacts except specific contacts, you can select a default Ringtone. Open the dropdown menu under Default Ringtone and make your choice. Each ringtone you choose will play. Remember to turn on your speakers. Click Save when you re done. Tip Mute Ringtones only: Click on the speaker icon on the main taskbar to mute Ringtones while leaving your PC audio un- muted. easy gadget General SeWngs Tip No Ringtone as Default: If you don t want a Ringtone to play for all calls or most contacts, select the default Ringtone enrtled Silence. 13

14 Caller ID Settings Caller ID Se]ngs SeIngs is accessible on the bokom bar of any open menu item. Just click on a menu item on the taskbar. Then click on the Caller ID tab. Caller ID on PC No3fica3on Incoming Caller ID Pop Up No3fica3on Display a pop- up on your computer when you have an incoming call on your Bright House phone even when easy gadget is minimized on your desktop. Check the box next to Display no3fica3on when applica3on is minimized. Click Save when you re done. Note: You cannot answer the call on your computer. You will need to pick up the phone if you are near it. Send Caller ID No3fica3on to Mobile Phone You can send a text norficaron to your mobile phone by checking the box next to Enable under Send Caller ID no/fica/on to Mobile Phone. Then enter u[ to two mobile phone numbers to receive caller ID norficarons. When your Bright House phone is called, you will receive a text message on your mobile phone. Specifying Contacts Only for Caller ID Alerts to Mobile Phone You can choose to send a text norficaron for all calls to your Bright House phone, or just be norfied when specific callers designated in your Contacts call you. To specify only callers in your Contacts, click the checkbox next to No3fica3on for selected Contacts only. This will open a window with a list of your Contacts. Click the checkbox next to Select All at the top of the list if you want a text norficaron for all Contacts, or scroll through your Contacts and check just the ones you only wish to receive a norficaron. easy gadget Caller ID SeWngs Click Save when you re done. 14

15 Phone and Text Messaging Settings Phone Se]ngs SeIngs is accessible on the bokom bar of any open menu item. Just click on a menu item on the taskbar. Then click on the Phone tab. Call Forward your Home Phone To forward your Bright House phone to another phone from easy gadget, click on the checkbox next to Forward your home phone to another phone and enter the phone number you want to forward calls to. Un- checking this box disables call forwarding. Also, pressing *73 from your Bright House phone will disable call forwarding. Click Save when you re done. easy gadget Call Forward SeWngs NOTE: Call Forwarding your Home Phone disables caller ID alerts to the PC and mobile device. This is the same result as if you use *72 to forward your Home Phone using your telephone handset. Text Se]ngs SeIngs is accessible on the bokom bar of any open menu item. Just click on a menu item on the taskbar. Then click on the Text tab. To designate a specific ringtone sound for new text message alerts, select a sound from the dropdown menu. Click Save when you re done. easy gadget New Text Message Sound SeWngs 15

16 Recents easy gadget Recents screen Recents displays the most recent 25 incoming calls. No outgoing calls are displayed. When you click on a call in the Recents log, a call detail dialogue box will open. Along with informaron about the call, you are provided with tools to manage and respond to the call you ve selected. Recents Call List From the main taskbar, click Recents icon. To view call management oprons click on a selected call. If a phone number in the list has not been added to Contacts, click Add to create a contact. For more on adding Contacts see the Contacts secron. easy gadget Recents Edit screen If the phone number has already been assigned in Contacts, click Edit to open an exisrng contact and make changes. For more on edirng Contacts, see the Contacts secron. Click the Call bukon to automarcally connect your Bright House phone to the selected number posted in your call history log. Click Text if shown for numbers that have been assigned as a mobile number in your Contacts. For more on text messaging, see page 19. See Universal Call and Text InstrucRons, page 12. Edit Recents Clicking the Edit bukon provides the opron to Delete All calls on the list, or designate mulrple calls on the list for deleron simultaneously. To designate specific calls on the list to delete, click the Edit bukon and then click on the circle to the len of each call on the list (which will turn green). Next, click the Delete bukon on the bokom with the number next to it represenrng the number of calls to be deleted. 16

17 Contacts From Contacts, you can enter and label different phone numbers, assign a picture to a contact and assign a unique ringtone to play on the PC whenever the person calls your Bright House phone. All your contacts are stored on the network. This means you will have access to all of your contacts on every PC you install easy gadget and unlike a mobile phone, you won t lose them if you change your PC or your PC stops working. Contacts can be added and edited from within Recents, Contacts, Voic , and Text Messaging. From the main taskbar, click Contacts icon. To view contact informaron, click on a selected contact name. easy gadget Contacts screen Click the Add bukon to add a new contact. Click the Edit bukon to edit current contact informaron. Click the Import bukon to import contact informaron from a.csv file. Click the Export bukon to export contact informaron to a.csv file. Click the Call bukon to automarcally connect your Bright House phone to the selected number posted in your call history log. Click Text if shown for numbers that have been assigned as a mobile number in your Contacts. For more on text messaging, see page 19. See Universal Call and Text InstrucRons, page 12. Assign a Picture to a Contact: Click on Change Photo to assign a picture to your contact. You can now browse picture files on your PC and select one to assign to the contact. easy gadget Contacts Detail screen. NOTE: Images stored in GIF, JPEG, and PNG format can be assigned to contacts. The maximum file size for a picture image is 100kb. If you anempt to assign a larger size image, an Error message will appear. Assign a Ringtone to a Contact: Click on and then choose (click) a unique Ringtone from the list provided. Each ringtone will play when you click on it. When finished crearng your new contact, click Save and exit the Contact screen. 17

18 Voic Now you can also listen on your computer to messages len on your Bright House phone. With easy gadget, you can see who len you a message and when and then chose to listen to whatever message you want in whatever order you want. Along with informaron about the voic , you re provided with tools to manage and resolve the voic you ve selected. easy gadget Voic screen From the main taskbar, click Voic icon. To view call management oprons, click on a selected call. If a phone number in the list has not been added to Contacts, click Add to create a contact. For more on adding Contacts, see the Contacts secron. easy gadget Voic screen when no Voic in on the account. If the phone number has already been assigned in Contacts, click Edit to open an exisrng contact and make changes. For more on edirng Contacts, see the Contacts secron. Click the Call bukon to automarcally connect your Bright House phone to the selected number posted in your call history log. Click the Listen bukon to listen to a voic . Click the Delete bukon to delete the voic . Note: You must subscribe to Bright House voic service in order to use easy gadget voic . With Bright House voic service, you can retrieve your voic messages at home and away by using the telephone, online through your Internet browser, and from within easy gadget. Bright House voic service is available for a low monthly rate. Call 611 from your Bright House phone to order Bright House voic service. 18

19 Text Messaging You can send and receive text messages using your Bright House Networks phone number with any mobile phone number in the US (and any Bright House Networks phone number with a registered easy gadget account). You can also inirate a text message conversaron from within the Recents call history list, Voic list or Contacts by selecrng a mobile number in those secrons and then click Text. NOTE: Before using Text Messaging for the first Rme, you must first sign up (Click) for Text Messaging using any easy gadget device app or in My Services. It can take up to 48 hours before the account is provisioned for text messaging ayer Sign- up. From the main taskbar, click the Text Messaging icon. Text Messaging Screen To start a new text message conversaron, click on New Text, then enter a phone number or name in your Contacts. Next, compose a message and click Send. To reply to a text message, or conrnue an exisrng conversaron, select a text message from the Text Message list. Then compose replies in the box at the bokom and click Send. To have mulrple text message conversarons going at the same Rme, click on Pop- out windows at the bokom of the Text screen. To delete a single text message, click on a conversaron on your Text Message list, then click Op3ons. Then click Delete and circles will appear next to each message. Click on the circle next to each message you wish to delete, which turns the circle to green. Then click on Delete at the bokom. To delete all messages in the conversaron, you can click on Delete All. To delete all conversarons, click on Delete at the bokom of the Text Messaging list view and then click on Delete All. Incoming New Text Received Pop Up No3fica3on A pop- up norficaron will appear on your computer when you have an incoming text sent to your Bright House phone number even when easy gadget is minimized on your desktop. See page 11. Tip: You must first create the Contact and list a number as Mobile before you will be given the opron to send a text message to that number. 19

20 Directory Search The Directory Search tab lets you look up a phone number for a specific business or category of business. It s free to use. From the main taskbar, click the Search icon. Phone Number Search and Reverse Number Lookup Fill in the fields for a category of Business Product or Service (i.e., plumbing, pizza, etc.) or a specific Business Name (Antony s Pizza) and the city and state or zip code. You can also enter a business phone number in the reverse number lookup field to find out what business owns that phone number. When finished, click on Find it. Search Results Details You can look at the details of each search result by clicking on the lisrng provided. Click the Call bukon to automarcally connect your Bright House phone to the selected number. See Universal Call and Text InstrucRons, page 12. To add a directory lisrng to Contacts, click Add to create a contact. See the secron on Contacts to learn about adding and edirng contacts. To get direcrons to the address listed, click Map and your browser will open to a map and direcrons page. To find out more about this lisrng, click More and your browser will open to a details page. More informaron is only provided for lisrngs with addironal details provided on the web. 20

21 Support & Troubleshooting Tips Support For addironal assistance and support on how to use the Bright House easy gadget, click on the Bright House Networks easy gadget logo at the top of the easy gadget taskbar. Troubleshoo3ng Tips q The Bright House Networks logo on the top lec corner of the easy gadget taskbar is not visible or the easy gadget is not visible Make sure you are logged in with your primary Bright House Phone account. q The Incoming caller/text ID pop- up message on the PC does not work In order to see Caller ID and Text alerts on your PC, the easy gadget applicaron must be running on your computer and you must be logged in using you re My Services login ID. Make sure the easy gadget applicaron is running, that you are logged into the applicaron and the box is checked in SeWngs next to Display norficaron when applicaron is minimized. If that does not work, your Internet connecron might have gone down and you may need to log back into easy gadget. q You can t hear ringtones Make sure the speakers on your PC are turned on (un- muted), or your headphones are plugged in and the volume is high enough to hear. Also, make sure your ringtones are un- muted in easy gadget and the ringtone for caller is not set to Silence. q You can t hear voic messages Make sure the speakers on your PC are turned on (un- muted), or you headphones plugged in and volume is high enough to hear. 21

22 Support & Troubleshooting Tips q Click- to- Call is not working Make sure you are siwng next to your Bright House phone. It will ring when you click the Call bukon and you must pick it up to complete the call. Also, click- to- dial only works for valid 10 or 7 digit phone numbers in the United States. Click- to- call does not work for internaronal numbers or x11 numbers like 411 or 911. See Universal Call and Text InstrucRons, page 12. q A mobile phone is not receiving my text message sent from easy gadget The mobile phone might not be acceprng text messages, or the mobile phone carrier might not be delivering text messages. q The Voic message does not appear Only current stored (new or saved) voic s are displayed. The voic might have been deleted using the telephone (either from the Bright House phone or remotely). q You have too many contacts and want to purge several at once There is no mass- delete funcron in the applicaron. Contacts can only be deleted one at a Rme. If you want to delete all contacts and start over, you must un- register easy gadget and then re- register easy gadget by logging into My Services at and clicking on download easy gadget. Once you are on the download page, to the right of the easy gadget Install badge, there is a link to un- register easy gadget. You can then re- register easy gadget and log back into the applicaron. You do not have to re- install the program. Un- registering easy gadget deletes all stored Contacts and prior call history in Recents. Before you un- register easy gadget, we recommend that you export your Contacts to a.csv file in case you want to easily Import them back into easy gadget aner you re- register. 22
