3 Honors Recommendations Recommendations are made by the 8 th grade teachers based upon the student s demonstrated ability in the subject and standardized test scores. Questions regarding these recommendations should be directed first towards the teacher.

7 Types of NYS Diplomas Regents Diploma new 4+1 pathway to graduation option Students must pass one Regents exam in each of the following subject areas: (1) English (1) social studies (1) math (1) science = (4) Plus 1 additional, comparably rigorous, state approved assessment for the 5 th examination required for graduation. Currently, approved assessments include 1 additional Regents exam passed in social studies, math, or science. More information to follow.

8 Types of NYS Diplomas Regents Diploma with Advanced Designation 8 or 9 required Regents exams: 2 additional exams in Math 1 additional exam in Science 1 exam in a LOTE or a 5 unit sequence in the Arts or in Career & Technical Education Information regarding diploma types and graduation requirements is outlined in the Course Offerings Guide

9 Interscholastic Athletics Tryouts begin BEFORE school starts. Check the website for dates. Fall sports coaches will announce and conduct meetings at OMS for interested students entering 9 th grade this coming June. 10 HEALTH EDUCATION The curriculum will follow the NYS Health Education Learning Standards and the NYS Guidance Document for Health Education. Topics to be covered include: Alcohol, Tobacco and Other Drugs Human Sexuality Mental and Emotional Health Nutrition

11 Physical Education Program FITNESS FOR LIFE Freshman Only~ Mandatory Following the NYS Learning Standards for Physical Education, based on instruction and assessments of personal fitness, students will learn the value and benefits of lifelong physical activity by: Making informed decisions regarding activity & personal fitness. Prepare for active learning in the future. Learn self management skills.

18 GEM Mentoring Program Selected seniors will mentor freshmen. Trained Senior Mentors will share experiences and run activities. Freshmen students meet with their Senior mentor every six days.

24 Students Eligible for Chemistry in 9 th grade Must fulfill both of the following criteria: Successfully completed accelerated Living Environment Regents program in M.S. Participate in Research Foundations program in Grade 9

25 Grade 9 Research Programs: Natural Science, Math, Social Science Honors level course Attend class every other day (½ credit) Explore in-depth the research process and techniques; make written and oral presentations Present work at local fairs.

28 Special Education All placements are based upon CSE (main or sub-committee) recommendations and meeting students needs in the Least Restrictive Environment (LRE).
