7 Art, Dr. Nina Prasso The Art department provides students with outstanding Fine Arts experiences while introducing and preparing them for STEAM oriented careers. Digital Photography and Computer Graphics align with the growing demand for students to be prepared for college and careers that focus on Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Math. Drawing, painting, photography and sculpture courses allow students to express themselves using different mediums. STEAM oriented courses prepare students to use technology creatively. 9 English Department, Mrs. Arnone The Grade 9 program emphasizes the Common Core Learning Standards for English Language Arts/Literacy. Students will study a progression of literature from The Odyssey to Shakespeare to Animal Farm to Lord of the Flies; complete the components of the research paper writing process; act as self-starters and critical thinkers. There is an emphasis on writing supported by quarterly writing benchmarks and a fully staffed Writing Center. 18 Differences between Middle School and High School Sports, Ms. Cerrone MS = 4 sports seasons for 9 weeks/hs = 3 sports seasons for 15 weeks HS Fall sports ALWAYS begin in AUGUST (Exact dates will be set soon) Student-Athletes MUST BE HERE all week for tryouts and practices in August. Please make your summer plans accordingly. High level of commitment: practices and contests are held 6 days a week and during all school holidays Conflicts? Students must begin to make choices with their time and interests Free physicals for sports are offered at the Middle School for Girls on June 10 and Boys on June 11 at 3:30 p.m. In addition: A Green Health History Form Must be brought on the first day of tryouts in August. Cheerleading and kick line tryouts are in the Spring. Look for signs and listen for announcements

20 Business Education, Mr. Rochler Graduation Information Students may use a 5-credit business sequence to fulfill graduation requirements. A business sequence will satisfy 5 CTE units for the Advanced Regents Diploma. Colleges and employers know that a student with this sequence has mastered many of the skills required for success in the business world. 5-Credit Business Sequence Students will choose 5 credits of business classes to satisfy the 2nd and 3rd year requirement of a language sequence. 21 Business Courses for Freshman ANIMATION AND VIDEO MEDIA This course focuses on animation and video. You will create animation using Adobe Flash. You will also create and edit video, and make movies using Windows Movie Maker! BUSINESS LAW Explore the way the legal system works- criminal and civil cases are studied. ENTREPRENEURSHIP Go through the entire process of owning your own business. Start a company from the ground up! FINANCE Explore investments, securities and more- how to invest your money successfully. MARKETING AND ADVERTISING Explore the world of advertising and develop an understanding for the role of marketing in business. This course is a prerequisite for Sports and Entertainment Marketing, Fashion Marketing, and Video Game Marketing. MULTIMEDIA Use Adobe Photoshop to edit photographs on the Internet as well as your own! Other programs used during the semester include Adobe Illustrator and Microsoft Publisher. BUSINESS MANAGEMENT Highly qualified leaders have taken on increasing importance in a business environment that is constantly changing and offers unique challenges in the 21 st century.

22 World Languages, Mr. Giacalone The primary goal of second language learning is the achievement of functional communication in the context of the target language culture. To achieve this outcome, the aim of the department is twofold: To teach students the skills necessary for effective communication in World Languages: speaking (Interpersonal Mode), listening (Interpretive Mode), reading (Interpretive Mode), and writing (Presentational Mode) via various activities and the utilization of our Language Lab. To provide students with an insight and appreciation of the foreign culture so that they become more informed and understanding citizens of the world.
