3 with Academic Honors (minimum 47 credits) For the Core 40 with Academic Honors diploma, students must: Complete all requirements for Core 40. Earn 2 additional Core 40 math credits Earn 6-8 Core 40 world language credits (6 credits in one language or 4 credits each in two languages). Earn 2 Core 40 fine arts credits. Earn a grade of a C- or better in courses that will count toward the diploma. Have a grade point average of a B or better by the end of your senior year. Complete one of the following: A. Complete AP courses (4 credits) and corresponding AP exams B. Earn a combined score of 1750 or higher on the SAT critical reading, mathematics, and writing sections and a minimum of 530 on each C. Score a 26 or higher composite on the ACT D. Complete dual high school/college credit courses from an accredited postsecondary institution (6 transferable college credits) E. Complete a combination of an AP course (2 credits and corresponding exam) and dual high school/college credit course(s) from an accredited postsecondary institution (3 transferable college credits) with Technical Honors (minimum 47 credits) For the Core 40 with Technical Honors diploma, students must: Complete all requirements for Core 40. Complete a career-technical program (6 or more related credits) Earn a grade of C- or better in courses that will count toward the diploma. Have a grade point average of a B or better. Recommended: Earn 2 additional credits in mathematics and 4-8 credits in World Languages for four year college admission. Complete two of the following, one must be A or B: A. Score at or above the following levels on WorkKeys: Reading for Information - Level 6; Applied Mathematics - Level 6; Locating Information - Level 5 B. Complete dual high school/college credit courses in a technical area (6 college credits) C. Complete a Professional Career Internship course or Cooperative Education course (2 credits) D. Complete an industry-based work experience as part of a two-year career-technical education program (minimum 140 hours) E. Earn a state-approved, industry-recognized certification 3
4 9 th Grade Scheduling School Year When you enter your freshman year, you are required to take an English class, a math class, a science class, a social studies class and a physical education class. There are 7 periods in the day and one 25-minute enrichment period after 3 rd period. Students are assigned either A or B lunch based upon their 4th period classes. Freshman Core Courses: English: 1002 English 9 (There is no longer a separate advanced English course.) (2-sem. course) Math: 2520/2516 Algebra I/Alg. Enrichment or 2520 Algebra I or 2532 Geometry (2-semester) Geometry is for those who received Algebra I credit in the 8 th grade. Students may only receive Algebra I credit in high school if a parent/guardian signs a form releasing the grades. Once this decision is made, it is final. Social Studies: 1570 World Geography or 1548 World History (2-semester courses) World History is recommended for students wanting to take Advanced Placement European History sophomore year. Students must have at least a B in 8 th grade English in order to take Spanish I as a freshman & is a full-year course.) *PE WAIVER: Any student who completes a high school sport season in good standing (signed off by varsity coach upon completion of season) will receive a semester of credit for physical education. Student will need to compete two sports seasons in order to meet the PE requirement. (This can be in two different sports even during the same year) Student will get the participation waiver form from the guidance office, fill it out, and have it signed by the varsity coach of that particular sport. (This policy applies to both freshman and JV teams.) 4
