2 Objectives for Tonight s Meeting To share information regarding academic resources for ZHS students and parents To review Graduation Requirements and TOPS curriculum To prepare for 10 th grade scheduling

7 What do I need in order to graduate? Earn 24.0 credits (every class you pass with a D or better = credits earned) Take specific courses Pass 3 EOC exams

8 One Diploma, Two Tracks You must take certain courses to graduate. Everyone starts on the college prep curriculum. You will stay on this track if you are planning to go to a 4 year college/university. If you are planning to attend community college, technical/trade school, military, or employment, you can switch to the career curriculum. Both curricula require 24.0 credits to graduate.

10 TOPS University Graduation Requirements English 4 Units Must be I, II, III, and IV Mathematics 4 Units Algebra I, Geometry, Algebra II, 4 th Math Science 4 Units Biology, Chemistry, 3 rd and 4 th Science Social Studies 4 Units World Geography, Civics, American History, World History Physical Education 1½ Units Can substitute ROTC I and II Health ½ Unit Foreign Language 2 Units Two years in the same language Art Elective 1 Unit Fine Art Survey, Art, Music, or Drama Electives 3 Units 24 Units

11 Jump Start Career Curriculum Prepares you for community college, trade/technical school, military, employment Requires specific electives and certification courses In addition to courses, students must earn certifications in their chosen career area (must master certain material and pass a test on that material) in order to graduate

12 When do I decide? Every student starts on the College/TOPS curriculum. Students can change to the Jump Start curriculum after their 2 nd year in high school. Students and parents must meet with Ms. Nmah to change pathways.

18 Scheduling Information Course selections should be driven by the student s career interest and postsecondary plans. Course Offerings (handout) go over the form with the student so he/she is prepared for schedule request. Current 9 th graders February 9 th 10 th Current 10 th graders February 12 th -13 th Current 11 th graders February 23 rd 24 th After scheduling, students will receive their Course Requests at the end of February.

20 ZCTC: Academic and Career Program Zachary Career and Technical Center (ZCTC) is a satellite campus of Zachary High School. ZCTC provides students with a more personalized education, flexibility and the option to seek career paths in Carpentry and Auto-technology. All core academic classes meet Louisiana high school graduation and TOPS requirements Accelerated curriculum (graduate early) Credit Recovery embedded into the school day (graduate on time) Online learning is infused into traditional teaching and curricula Odysseyware, an online curriculum and program Certifiable Career Programs: Carpentry Auto-technology
