2 Choices Are you ready for all of the choices that you have to make? The things you do in high school will determine the things you can do after high school. College 2yr. or 4yr. Technical School Military Workforce Vincennes University Early College WHS is one of only a select few Vincennes University Early College High Schools in Indiana. At WHS, students have the ability to earn at least 30 dual credit hours of general education credits from the Indiana Core Transfer Library. Interested students may be able to earn a 2- year associates degree from Vincennes University. 2

7 Additional considerations for Academic Honors Diploma: Must complete ONE of the following: 2 AP courses and corresponding AP exams OR- Dual HS/college courses resulting in 6 college credits from the DOE Dual Credit Priority Course list OR- 1 AP course and corresponding AP exam and a dual HS/college course resulting in 3 college credits OR or higher on SAT(3 sections, no score less than 530 on any section OR- ACT composite of 26 or above, must include writing A Change from Junior High At the end of a semester, if you complete courses with a passing grade of D- or better, you earn one credit in each of those courses. If you fail a required course - you must repeat each semester of all required classes until you earn the credit. 7

8 A Change from Junior High WHS uses a running total grading method. Work over entire semester is used in calculating final semester grade. Nine week grades are NOT averaged. COURSE RETAKE/GRADE REPLACEMENT A grade retake/replacement occurs when a student retakes a class that he/she has already taken (and passed) to hopefully receive a better grade. A student who receives below a C- on a course may retake that course for credit. The second grade earned will be averaged with the first grade earned. This average will figure into the cumulative GPA. Both grades will remain on the transcript. This would allow a student trying to earn an Indiana Academic Honors diploma an opportunity to retake a class where he/she might have received below a C-, thus giving him/her an opportunity to keep his/her Academic Honors diploma. Students may not use on-line credit recovery classes for retakes of class that was previously passed. 8

9 Not to Worry We have seven periods in each day. 14 credits per year for 4 years equals 56 possible credits. Course Recommendations Language Arts and Science courses for freshmen are recommended by junior high faculty using testing and class data. Students and parents who wish to enroll in a course that was not recommended must meet with the freshman counselor. Parents and students who wish to enroll in a class that was not recommended must sign a recommendation waiver, stating the student will remain in the class for at least one semester before possibly transferring. 9

11 P.E. All students are required to obtain 2 PE credits before graduation Students may take 2 traditional PE courses or earn 2 credits from Flex PE or use a combination of both. Students may also fulfill the PE requirement by enrolling in two years of NJROTC. Flex PE One semester of credit in PE will be issued for successful completion of a sport/activity and its full season in our athletic department or school. A second semester of PE credit will be issued for successful completion of another season in a distinctly different sport or activity. 11

Marching Band (Depends on Section) Advanced Choir Dance Team Weighted Grades WHS offers a number of weighted classes. Students enrolling in these classes and passing with a C or better receive an additional weight added to their GPA. 12
