1 Library ebooks and Your Kindle Fire Library ebooks now can be read on your Kindle Fire. You need an Internet connection, and a valid library card. When using your Kindle for the first time, you will need to obtain an account at and then register your Kindle device. Once you select your ebook from the WLN emedia site, you will be transferred to to download the ebook to your Kindle Fire through your wireless connection, or by a USB cable. The ebooks will not transfer to your Kindle on its 3G network. Also, only library ebooks and not library audio books will be available on the Kindle Fire for downloading. Amazon and Overdrive do not provide support for library audio books on the Kindle. 1. In order to view the WLN emedia web site completely, you need to change the view from automatic to desktop on your Kindle Fire. To do this: 2. Open Internet browser on the Kindle Fire by pressing Web on the top menu bar. 3. Press the Menu key and select Settings. 4. Scroll to the Desktop or Mobile option and change this setting from Automatic to Desktop. 5. While still in the Settings menu select the Clear all cookie data, and select ok to clear the cookies. 6. Select the Clear cache, and then press ok to clear cache. 7. You should be able to browse the WLN emedia web site located at This is a different address than where you would access your patron account for print library books, DVDs and audio CDs. 8. To look for an ebook you can either Browse the Catalog or do a Quick Search.

2 9. If you are interested in only seeing what ebooks are available immediately, you can select the Advanced Search under the Quick Search box and scroll to the bottom and checkmark Only Show Titles with Copies Available. You can also change the Format from All to Kindle Book.

3 10. Next, make sure you select the Kindle Book version, and not the Adobe EPUB version. If the book is available, you can then select Add to Basket. If the book is not available, you can select Join Waiting List. This will place the book on hold for you, and you will receive an when the book is available for you. 11. Once you have selected Add to Basket you then have the option to Continue Browsing or to Proceed to Checkout.

4 12. Next, choose your library (Greensburg Hempfield Area Library) on the Log In page. 13. Type in your complete library card number without any spaces, and include any ending letter. If you receive any error messages about your card not being valid or has blocks, contact your local library for assistance. 14. You can choose the lending period of 14 or 7 days. Then select Confirm Checkout.

5 15. On the next screen, choose Get for Kindle. 16. A new web page will open from Select Get library book on the right-hand side.

6 17. Next, sign in using your address and Amazon.com password. If you do not have an Amazon.com account, please type in your address and then select No, I am a new customer and choose Sign in using our secure server. 18. If you already have an Amazon.com account skip down to step 12. Otherwise, fill in the registration information with your name, address, and then create a password. Next choose Create Account. You do not need to give a credit card number to obtain an Amazon account.

7 19. If your Kindle Fire is not registered with Amazon, the following screen will appear. Just select the Register your device now link near the bottom of the screen. You can also choose to obtain any free Kindle reading app.

8 20. Create a name for your Kindle Fire, and then find the serial number on your device. This can be found by pressing the Quick Settings icon on the top right of the Kindle Fire, then tap More. Select Device from the list and find your serial number. 21. Once your Kindle is registered, you will see the next screen explaining that your book has been delivered to your Kindle through your Wi-Fi connection.

9 22. The book will appear on the home screen the next time the Kindle connects to the Wi-Fi network. If it doesn t appear, you can tap the sync button located in the Quick Settings icon on the top right of the Kindle Fire. The books will not transfer using the Kindle s 3G network. 23. Due to some publisher restrictions, some titles can only be transferred using a USB cable. These items are noted under the Kindle version in red lettering Kindle Devices via USB only. The Kindle Fire is not supplied with this cable, but you can use a USB 2.0 male to Micro-B cable from your computer to your Kindle Fire. Select the Download now, then save the file to your desktop. Connect your Kindle with the USB cable, locate the Documents folder in your Kindle File, and then drag and drop the downloaded file on the desktop to this folder in your Kindle. 24. If you wish to return your book before the lending period is over, you can return the item early by accessing your Amazon account online and selecting Manage Your Kindle.

10 25. Once in your Kindle library, select Actions next to the title you want to return, and then from the following menu select Return this book. You will receive a notification on your Kindle about this action. Do not select Delete from library before you have returned the book, because the book will still be considered as checked out to you, but you won t have access to it. Once you have returned the book, you can delete it from your Kindle library and from your Kindle.
