4 Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test WHO College-bound Juniors and honors-level Sophomores WHY The PSAT/NMSQT is the only way for juniors to qualify for the National Merit Scholarship Program, National Hispanic Recognition Program, and the National Scholarship Service Program for African-American Students. The PSAT/NMSQT will measure what you learn in high school and what you need to succeed in college. WHEN Wednesday, October 19, 7:00am WHERE Overland High School COST $25 Cash/Check accepted. 5 OVERLAND HIGH SCHOOL REQUEST FOR PARKING PRIVILEGES THIS APPLICATION MUST BE COMPLETED AND SIGNED BY STUDENT AND PARENT/GUARDIAN BEFORE IT WILL BE ACCEPTED. The safety of everyone on the Overland High School campus must be considered. Guidelines for all student drivers are: 1. Students who have unpaid fines or owe money to any department, club or organization at OHS will not have their applications processed until those fines are paid and cleared. If you are not sure if you have an outstanding fine, check with the bookkeeping office ( ). 2. Student vehicles must be parked between the lines and in the student designated parking spaces only. LOITERING IN THE PARKING LOTS OR SOCIALIZING IN OR AROUND VEHICLES IN NOT PERMITTED. 3. RECKLESS AND CARELESS DRIVING WILL NOT BE TOLERATED. Drivers that do not abide by the 10 MPH speed limit and parking lot guidelines will be subject to the parking pass being revoked with no refund by the dean s office and the driver may be reported to the Aurora Police Department for a citation if necessary. 4. THE OHS PARKING PASS MUST BE DISPLAYED AT ALL TIMES. Vehicles without passes will be ticketed and/or towed at the owner s expense. Lost or stolen passes must be reported to OHS Security ASAP; replacement parking passes will cost $ If a reported stolen or lost pass is discovered on campus, the dean s office will be notified as well as the Aurora Police Department if necessary. Any students involved will have their parking privileges revoked for the remainder of the year. 5. PARKING WILL NOT BE PERMITTED ON JEWELL AVE OR IN THE UTAH PARK PARKING LOT. Students who do not adhere to this policy may be ticketed by Aurora Police. 6. ALL PARKING PASSES MUST BE TURNED IN AT THE END OF THE YEAR OR A $30.00 FINE WILL BE ASSESSED.
6 7. Students MAY NOT transfer passes to vehicles belonging to other students. Students must report to the Security office when a different vehicle is driven to the OHS campus. Students who drive a different vehicle to school without reporting it to security are subject to consequences from the school. Any violation will be subject to the OHS Parking Policies and Consequences for the School Year. 8. The privilege of parking on OHS school property is extended in exchange for granting consent to the school administration and/or dean s office to search the vehicle without warning when there is reason to believe that the items contained in the vehicle threaten the general safety of students. To park a vehicle on school property, consent must be given to seize items which are potentially dangerous in order to protect the common good of all. As a student, I understand my privilege to drive and park on the Overland High School campus will be revoked if I do not abide by all of these guidelines previously stated. 7 AP Summer Institute for Students This year the AP Summer Institute for Students will feature an AP Success Skills class. This class features six hours of general skills directed towards the needs of freshmen, students taking their first AP class, and students who have experience with AP classes but want to improve. An additional three hours are designated to provide time for research and technology skills including an introduction to electronic resources and online applications used in AP Courses. Topics include time management, reading and writing for AP, organization skills, and information specific to AP classes and AP testing. Students should attend all three days. Students who take this Institute will be better prepared to handle the challenge of the AP curriculum.
