1 Principal s Message: Parents, Guardians, and Students of Easton High School, We are off to a great start at Easton High School. Our students have responded very well to the new school year. We are very serious about establishing the foundation of our school, which is Respect. The students are showing respect for themselves by following school rules. They are showing respect for learning by being on time for class, being prepared for class, and getting the most out of each and every class. Our staff is showing respect for our students by taking the time to get to know them and their learning styles. Our students are showing respect for the adults in the building by addressing them by the correct title (Mrs., Ms., Mr., Dr., etc.). Our after school clubs and organizations are getting started and we encourage all students to find something that they are interested in, and get involved. Clubs are a great way to meet new people and to become engaged in your school. Fall sports are under way and our student athletes are working hard on the fields and in the classrooms. We encourage all of our families to get involved with our school and come out to an event. In an effort to communicate more effectively with our families this year, we will be generating a weekly update instead of a monthly newsletter. Each weekly update will highlight a grade level, important date reminders, and any other pertinent EHS information. In order to take advantage of the more consistent communication, please take the time to sign up for TCPS TODAY. You can visit the TCPS homepage ( to create an account and begin receiving all EHS notifications. The staff of EHS thanks you for sending your children...our students, to us each day. We ask that families stay involved with their children. It takes ALL of us to get our students across the stage on Graduation Day! Stofa Proud Principal Grade Level Spotlight 10 th Grade Class of 2017: Freshmen are now Sophomores and our Expectations have risen. Parents and students please be aware of a few important reminders: Drop/Add time period expired 8/29/14; at this point any class change request would require a meeting with administration and guidance. The schedule for SY has a slight change. Classes will end at 2:25. We will have extended time for correctives. Correctives are offered by our EHS certified teachers from 2:25-3:05 daily. This is an opportunity to meet with your teacher, review materials, or assignments in a smaller setting, to get additional help. Please take advantage of this time! To make sure you are career and college ready, check out bridges.com to help with your college and career planning. Students set up a bridges account while at the middle school. If you do not have an account log on to the website to set it up. PSAT- All sophomores will participate, at no cost, in the PSAT on October 15 th, from 8:00am-12:00pm. Students will be provided a study guide. Remember to keep academic achievement and your college and career readiness as your main focus. Continue to monitor your progress using FROG-OS and PowerSchool. To access the class of 2017 FROG site use the following url: National Honor Society is an opportunity for the spring semester! Please see upcoming newsletters for more information. An informational meeting night is being planned and all information will be reviewed through your student s classes. Interim Reports are issued Friday, October 3 rd. 1

2 TCPS Grading is based on a 100% scale; a 69.5% is required for a passing grade. The scale is as follows: o = Excellent Learning o = Mastery Learning o = Acceptable Learning o 69.4 and below= Unsatisfactory/Incomplete Learning Please remember there are no D s & E s! Mr. Howie & Ms. Wilson Student Parking Parents and Students: Please be aware that this school year, parking is prohibited on Mecklenburg Avenue. It is important that all students adhere to this request. Failure to do so will result in ticketing from the Easton Police Department and/or Easton High School. Also, it is important that all students obtain a parking permit, which costs $20 for the year. Parking permit applications are available in the main office. Any student that submits an application must bring a copy of their drivers license, vehicle registration, and proof of insurance. 3 Service Learning: Service-learning hours earned during the summer should be submitted to either Mrs. Brown (Culinary Arts suite - lbrown@tcps.k12.md.us) or Mrs. Callahan (room 104, tacallahan@tcps.k12.md.us) as soon as possible. A minimum of seventy-five service-learning hours is a graduation requirement. Senior hours are due by May 15, 2015; underclassmen hours by the last school day in June. First semester is a great time to earn or complete hours, as there are many community events. Check with either of the above teachers to make sure an activity will qualify for servicelearning credit and please make sure the form is completely filled out before it is submitted.
