1 Application for Admission to Massey University (Singapore) Bachelor of Food Technology (Honours) The Application Process Eligible candidates complete application form and submit all necessary documents. The University shortlists candidates based on academic merits. Shortlisted candidates will be contacted to attend an interview session. All applicants will be notified of the outcome. The University sends out an Offer of Place to successful applicants. Successful applicants accept the Offer of Place, complete enrolment procedures including payment of fees. The University registers candidates in the Bachelor of Food Technology (Honours) programme. Candidates attend the Degree Preparation Programme on the first week of August. ACADEMIC YEAR The academic calendar and programme schedule operated by Massey University from its Singapore campus are as follows: Degree Preparation Programme: 05 Aug Aug 2013 Junior 1 (Semester 1): 02 Sept Dec 2013 Semester Break: 21 Dec Jan 2014 Junior 2 (Semester 2): 27 Jan Jun 2014 Semester Break: 14 Jun Jun 2014 Senior 1 (Semester 1): 30 Jun Oct 2014 Practical Work 2 & 3: 13 Oct Jan 2015 Senior 2 (Semester 2): 02 Feb May 2015 Semester Break: 23 May May 2015 Final Project: 01 Jun Sept 2015 APPLICATION SUBMISSION DATES Application opens from 04 March 2013 and must reach Massey University Singapore office by 02 April Candidates will be notified of the outcome by about about 3 weeks after the closing date. VERIFICATION AND SUBMISSION OF DOCUMENTS All copies of academic transcripts, certificates and other documents must be officially translated into English and verified/notarised by the issuing institution, a notary public, justice of the peace, solicitor, commissioner of oath or an approved agent. The signatory must sign and date with an official stamp on each page stating: This is a certified true copy of the original document.

2 The supporting documents that accompany the application must include: Birth Certificate or Passport NRIC (if applicable) Complete set of polytechnic examination transcripts Singapore Cambridge GCE O Level transcripts Being certified physically and metally fit to persue the course of study Any relevant documents Applicants who have had a name change must provide verified evidence of that change, e.g., a deed poll or marriage certificate. Please do not submit original certificates and documents. The admission office will not be held responsible for damage or loss of original certificates or documents submitted. APPLICATION FEES A non-refundable application fee of S$25 (inclusive of 7% GST) must accompany the application. Payment is made by cashier s order or cheque made payable to Please write your full name, address and telephone number on the reverse side of the cashier s order or cheque. Please note that payment receipt will not be issued and cash payment will not be accepted. ADMISSION CRITERIA FOR UNIVERSITY STUDY To be admitted into the Massey University programme, applicants need to meet both the academic and English language requirements. ACADEMIC REQUIREMENTS To be eligible for consideration into the Bachelor of Food Technology (Honours) programme conducted in Singapore, candidates must have one of the following qualifications: Diploma in Chemical Process Technology (Food Option) (Singapore Polytechnic) or Diploma in Food Science & Technology (Singapore Polytechnic) or Advanced Diploma in Food Technology (Singapore Polytechnic) or Diploma in Applied Food Science & Nutrition (Temasek Polytechnic) or Diploma in Food Science & Nutrition (Nanyang Polytechnic) Students and graduates from regional universities with relevant qualifications are welcome to apply ENGLISH LANGUAGE REQUIREMENTS Applicants who do not possess a relevant qualification from a Singapore tertiary institution should possess one of the following: IELTS (Academic): Minimum overall band score of 6.0 with no individual band score less than 5.5; or TOEFL: Paper-based test (P) - Minimum score of 550, TWE 4.0; or Computer-based Test (C) - Minimum score 213, Essay Rating 4.0; or Internet-based Test (ibt) - 80 (minimum writing 19) Please note that the University Selection Committee reserves the right to admit applications they deem most qualified. 1. TUITION GRANT The substantial tuition subsidy from the Government of Singapore comes in the form of a tuition grant which is administered by the Ministry of Education (MOE) and offered to all admitted students. Students who apply for and are approved for the tuition grants need only pay subsidised fees (also referred to as the Direct Payment portion of fees). While the tuition grant is not repayable, and Singapore citizens in receipt of it will not be required to undertake a service bond, the following accountability measures will apply: All Singapore Permanent Residents and International Students will be required to undertake a service bond under the terms of the tuition grant to work for a Singapore-registered company for three years upon completion of their degree so as to discharge some of their obligations to the Singapore public for the high subsidy to their university education. PAYMENT OF FEES All new students are required to pay their Junior 1 fees and other fees on enrolment day. Payment shall be made in the form of a cashier s order or cheque made payable to. Please write your name, address and telephone number on the reverse side of the cashier s order or cheque. No cash payment will be accepted. All fees are payable on demand and official receipts will be issued (except for payment through the Interbank GIRO Scheme). If official receipts are not received within seven days from the date of payment, a written request should be made to The Director, Finance. For payment through the GIRO Scheme, students may ask for a statement at the Finance Counter. 5. LATE FEE A late fee of S$15 will be imposed if fees are not paid by the date stipulated in the Fee Advice / Bill or as advised by the Finance Department. If fees are not paid after a reminder is issued, Admissions Office may deregister the student. 6. REFUND POLICY (SINGAPORE CAMPUS ONLY) Students who intend to withdraw from their course must complete a prescribed Withdrawal Form (obtainable from the Administrator) and submit it to the Administrator together with the original official receipt as soon as possible. A refund of the Course Fees (less S$100 administrative charge) will only be made if notice of withdrawal is received before the commencement of the semester. The administrative charges for enrolled students of the Bachelor of Food Technology (Honours) degree course includes the Students' Union Fee, Insurance Fee, Statutory Licence Fee, Registration Fee, Degree Preparation Programme Fee and fee for Freshmen Orientation Pack which will not be refunded. Students who withdraw within the first week of the semester, will only be refunded 75% of the Course Fee. In addition, Students' Union Fee, Insurance Fee, Statutory Licence Fee, Registration Fee, Degree Preparation Programme Fee and fee for Freshmen Orientation Pack will not be refunded. All students are advised to participate in the Interbank GIRO Scheme for payment of subsequent semesters fees. Interbank GIRO is an easy and convenient way to pay fees. It saves students time in queuing up at the counter. Under the Interbank GIRO Scheme, fees will be deducted from the students or their parents / guardians accounts. For new students, the Interbank GIRO deduction will commence in Junior 2. Students will be informed of the GIRO deduction date in advance by mail. No refund of fees will be given for withdrawal after the first week of the first semester.
