2 INVERSION CLOSE TO HEAVEN YET DOWN TO EARTH A sleek exterior welcomes clients into the store. The polished yet rustic interior is a representation of the outdoor elements while remaining sleek, fun and relaxed. Strong graphic within the product against textures in white finishes create interest while maintaining a very clean look. A modern design concept with eclectic rustic flare welcomes passionate boarders of all ages. CONCEPT Premium quality products make a huge impact when your faced with the unknown elements of nature. Staying warm, dry and comfortable while looking great is what Inversion is about. Only high end products are carried to ensure excellent performance, quality, and comfort.

3 Assignment: To design a retail store using Google sketch up, perspectives and working drawings to convey design intent. Challenges: Using Google sketch up to generate a model. Solution: Many textures were used but almost all the materials are white or white washed. A rustic feel is captured among the branch light fixtures to the wooden display units. One of the main features is the ceiling which is constructed of polyurethane foam which has then been hand carved and sculpted to simulate snow drifts. Creating a feeling of being one with the elements. The exterior of the store features a distressed wood dropped ceiling that continues out and wraps onto the face of the exterior.

5 FLOOR PLAN The floor plan allows for easy circulation and flow around the store. The central display units are a focal point showing off the latest and greatest products. Grey, white and blue was the palette chosen to convey the snowy outdoors.

10 CONSTRUCTION/ DISPLAY DETAILS This custom display unit has drawers for snowboard storage and a pop out bench for seating when trying on boots on the opposite side. The middle portion is raised to showcase the most recent products.

11 NKBA KITCHEN DESIGN Assignment: To transform a walk out basement into a suite for a client with future mobility restrictions. Challenges: incorporating accessible standards while meeting NKBA planning guidelines. Custom features were incorporated to ensure proper ergonomics were met. Learning to be proficient in Auto Cad and conveying your ideas on a computer opposed to manual drafting. Solution: a open concept kitchen with plenty of counterpace and storage for her cooking needs. A appliance life and custom lowered countertops enable additional ease and comfort. This plan allowed for a multipurpose kitchen area where cooking, entertaining dining and relaxing take place.

12 This rendering for the NKBA kitchen was designed with a Mid-Century Modern feel. The floating zebra wood cabinets give the space modern flare while the orange accents combined with retro ceiling pendants give off that mid century vibe.

13 CONSTRUCTION PLAN Some structural changes that were made included closing in the fireplace, construction of new walls and replacement of a plumbing wall.

14 MECHANICAL PLAN Various types of lighting was used to created layering. Pot lights, LED strip under floating cabinets, pendants; and a warm glow from the ethanol fire place creates an overall comfort and ambiance.

16 NKBA BATHROOM DESIGN Assignment: Transform a walk out basement into a suite including an universal bathroom. Challenges: Incorporating accessible standards while meeting all the clients needs in a small area. Solution: An open concept multi-purpose bathroom design. 3 form panel was used to separate the wet area from the laundry area.

17 Universal bathroom design Custom laundry unit with a tambour door and pop out folding table. Travertine slip resistant tile was used on the floor. White quarts countertop. 3 form was used for a shower patrician. A custom travertine chevron pattern was used on the feature wall. High gloss custom cabinetry was used for the laundry compartment.

18 CONSTRUCTION & MECHANICAL PLAN A wall was removed to extend the bathroom out. A larger window was added. Additional reinforcement was required within the walls to support static loads for accessible grab bars.

20 CUSTOM LAUNDRY CABINET DETAIL A tambour door was used to conceal the laundry when not it use. A pop out folding table was included for easy folding. White high gloss cabinetry with a glass front was used for easy cleaning.

21 TROUT POND Assignment: Designing a building within 1500 sq. ft. area constraint. This was a group project focused around sustainable and eco design. Research was included to find the best building materials and sustainable product specifications. Triple glazed windows were incorporated to take advantage of the pond and ravine views. Passive solar energy was taken into consideration when planning for the windows.

22 ECO MATERIALS Low V.O.C paint, cork flooring, reclaimed wood furniture, recycled glass countertop, LED light fixtures, Recycled glass backsplash. This perspective of the kitchen reflects the light airy materials. The calming blue tones in the recycled glass materials compliment the blonde wood and caramel cork flooring.

23 MODEL CONSTRUCTION VIEWS OF THE MODEL BUILDING PROCESS

24 Challenges: Scheduling times to meet with the group to work on the project. The model building was also challenging because different hands are working on different pieces and communication was really important in bringing everything together. I really enjoy group work and this project was just another example of how great design can come from a collaboration of ideas and view points. Everyone utilized their unique skills and worked well as a team contributing equally to the outcome.

25 RETAIL PROJECT Assignment: Design a airport kiosk with a focus on sculptural exterior. Challenges: Utilizing sketch up to create a capture a 3D design that was initially envisioned. Solution: Creating multiple sketches and working back and fourth from the sketch book and Google sketch up to see what could be created.

26 MELT RESTAURANT PROJECT The lunar phases of the moon are the illuminated portion which is visible upon dusk and dawn. Large curved windows were incorporated to take in the view and bring natural light into the restaurant. As the evening approaches Melt transforms into a lively gathering spot with up beat music, flowing wine and great food. The design plays with texture, dramatic contrast within the color selection and reflection of light to create a layering effect for added depth and mystery. Natural and artificial light sources enhance the reflective materials. Illuminated features within the restaurant are hidden during the day and become accents during the evening. Ambient integrated light sources within the ceiling panels create a memorable, mystifying experience as if you were dining under a starry night.

27 RENDERED FLOOR PLAN Assignment: Renovation to a restaurant located on the Vancouver harbor. Challenges: Meeting commercial bathroom standards to the B.C building code. With regard to having 150 seats. Solution: Organic curves inspired by the moon were incorporated throughout the design. The design is an open concept to accentuate the large windows. Multiple layers of lighting were used to create unknown sources of light that reflect and glimmer making clients feel like they are dining under a starry sky.

29 This entry view shows off the organic nature of the design. 3 form material was used on the hostess desk; a gold plated room divider separates the entry from the main dining/ lounge area. ENTRANCE PERSPECTIVE

30 NORTH & SOUTH ELEVATIONS This south elevation features a backlit painting that leads into a hallway with a perforated ceiling where the washrooms are located. Sheer ceiling mounted drapery with metallic beads was used for a window treatment. The fabric glimmers and reflects from the natural light.

39 EXTERIOR VIEWS Materials used for the patio: Brushed steel furniture, light porcelain flooring, and dark porcelain on the planters. Eco friendly ethanol fire nets were added into the planters for ambiance at night. The front of the restaurant shows the same light tile on the exterior walls. A dark brown porcelain grounds the entry. 3 form was used on the front doors. Long wall sconces were used for added warmth and illuminate the entrance.

40 MISCELLANEOUS ART & PROJECTS

41 TILE MOSAIC Assignment: Tile project any piece of your choice. Challenges: Using charcoal grout was a challenge. It was very difficult to wash it all off. Solution: I managed to scrub the rest off with an acid solution. Bob Marley mosaic was created with ceramic tile for the facial features and hair. Glass tile was used for the background. It was all mounted on a wood substrate. A wood frame was painted with metallic silver paint to create a metal look for the frame. The piece is 3-6 tall and 2-0 wide and weighs about 60 pounds.
