1 TO: FROM: SUBJECT: Midland Area News Teams Dr. Ryder Warren, MISD Superintendent Midland ISD 2015 STAAR Scores May 28, 2015 Contact: Elise Kail, MISD Executive Director of Accountability, The State of Texas Assessment of Academic Readiness (STAAR) results have been released for grades 3-8 testing from spring 2015 state testing. As with the released state scores, MISD did not experience any statistically significant gains or losses on the exams this is the fourth year of the current STAAR program. We did have campuses that we are tracking with gains and losses, and we will be analyzing all to plan for future interventions. The Texas Education Agency administers the State of Texas Assessments of Academic Readiness, or STAAR, to students each year in reading and mathematics in grades 3-8, in writing in grades 4 and 7, in science in grades 5 and 8, and in social studies in grade 8. The state also administers five STAAR end-ofcourse (EOC) tests to students who take the following courses for high school credit: English I, English II, Algebra I, Biology, and US History. In addition to the regular English version, STAAR tests are available in Spanish (grades 3-5 only), linguistically accommodated (L), accommodated (A) and alternate (Alternate 2) versions for those students for whom the regular English version is not considered valid. One item of good news for us - when looking at cohort comparisons across the district, Level III performance improved in Reading for 5 grade levels when comparing student performance from one grade level to the next grade level. Level III performance improved in EOC Subject Level tests in 4 of 5 tested areas. Level III performance has been an academic focus across the district for the school year.
