2 Dual Language One-Way Framework The Dual Language One- Way framework is designed to provide one population of students who speak another language at home (majority being Spanish speakers) with content level instruction in their primary language (L1) and the second language (L2 is English). 4 Professional Learning & Resources The professional learning opportunities found below will be the focus of the school year. We will offer these sessions throughout the year, including the summer to ensure that teachers have the opportunity to attend. We highly encourage administrators to attend trainings to keep current with the updates and the latest practices. 5 TExES Preparation Courses Attention: Want to become ESL certified? Birdville ISD will pay the registration and certification fee for teachers who attend a two-day ESL TExES workshop. As a result of attending this workshop, participants will become better prepared for the ESL certification test. Each workshop will be limited to 30 participants so sign up as soon as possible. You must hold a teaching position in Birdville to qualify for the training. You will need to register in Eduphoria to receive credit for the training. Remember: You must attend the training and pass the test to get reimbursed for the fees. 6 Registration for ESL Supplemental 154 TExES: Go to TEA website and scroll to bottom of page and click on Test Registration Questions or: 1. Click on Texas Educator on the menu at the top. 2. Under Certification, choose Educator Testing and click on Educational Testing Service (ETS). 3. Create TEA ID number and register for the ESL Supplemental 154 test. NON-REFUNDABLE FEES: $15 late registration fee Test fee if ESL Certification test is not taken and not rescheduled with the appropriate approval from SBEC ESL Certification Application Procedure: Once you have passed the test and received your results, you must apply for certification through TEA. 1. Go to TEA website. 2. Click on Texas Educator on the menu at the top. 3. Under Certification, select Additional Certification by Exam on the menu to the left. 4. Follow procedures to apply for the endorsement. For general certification information, call TEA at Pay the endorsement fee online and print a copy of your transaction which includes to whom you paid, your name, date, transaction ID and $ amount. Reimbursement Procedures: Submit your receipts for the test fee ($120) and certification fee ($77) to Sally Ashburn in the Dual Language/ESL Dept. at the Administration Building. Submit a copy of your teaching certificate which includes the ESL certification. All documentation must be submitted in order to be reimbursed. Please save copies for your records!
