3 What is STAAR? The State of Texas Assessments of Academic Readiness (STAAR) are new assessments that will focus on increasing college readiness of high school students and help to ensure that Texas students are competitive with other students both nationally and internationally. 3
4 College readiness means the level of preparation a student must attain in English language arts and mathematics courses to enroll and succeed, without remediation, in an entry level general education course for credit in that same content area for a baccalaureate degree or associate degree program. (HB 3, Section a) 4

8 Four-hour time limit STAAR EOC assessment score will count 15% of final course grade (can now defer implementation of 15% for 1 year) 8

10 Student Success Initiative: 8 th grade Performance standards will be set in January Reports with performance standards applied should be released prior to retest opportunity for students May 14 th and 15 th will be the first opportunity for 8 th graders to retest. Summer school and additional retesting will be available in June
