1 APPLICATION PACK for the position of Learning Support Teacher Aide Applications are invited from suitably experienced candidates to take up the position of part time / term time Learning Support Teacher Aide. Whilst this role will predominantly work with Junior School students, the applicant should be willing and able to support students in Senior School should the need arise. This is a temporary position available for an immediate start, until 4 December Whilst this position is initially offered on a temporary basis, it may lead to a permanent position for the right person should student needs dictate. Hours of work are currently 21 per week working Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday 8 am to 3:30 pm. The successful applicant will be able to support and guide Prep to Year 10 students with disabilities and learning difficulties in all aspects of curriculum and with social situations. He / she will exhibit genuine care and compassion for students and will be highly organised, flexible and will demonstrate initiative. A certificate qualification in Learning Support or Education Support (or willingness to obtain this qualification) is preferable. Remuneration is School Officer Level 3 as per the Emmanuel College Collective Workplace Agreement. Emmanuel College currently pays 11.25% superannuation. SELECTION CRITERIA Learning Support Teacher Aide P - 10 Please write a brief personal resume (maximum of ½ page per criterion) addressing each of the Selection Criteria, mentioning previous relevant experience and approach to each task. 1. Student Support; the Learning Support Teacher Aide will: a) Have a passion for working with students (Prep Year 10) particularly working to encourage students to develop in all areas; academic, social and physical. b) Be able (or willing to) participate in the full IEP (Individual Education Plan) and EAP (Education Adjustment Plan) processes from initial meeting to evaluation. He / she will facilitate specific programs with individuals or small groups, and with assistance and training, administer tests and assess results. (NB: Applicants must be able to demonstrate at interview their ability to teach specific English sounds for the Phonicalogical Awareness Program). c) Be sufficiently resilient, fit and agile to support students with physical disabilities on a daily basis, within WH&S parameters. (NB: Any physical limitations that may affect your ability to perform these tasks should be disclosed in this SC response). 2. Core Competencies; the Learning Support Teacher Aide will: a) Show initiative, accept responsibility and be highly organised with excellent time management, reporting and record keeping skills. b) Be a team player, able to work collaboratively with individuals and teams within the College. c) Have sound computer skills (particularly Microsoft Office products) to create spread sheets, maintain databases and records and assist student learning using IT. d) Have a personal faith and commitment to Jesus Christ and be in regular fellowship and good standing with a local Christian church. 11 STAFF LIFESTYLE REQUIREMENTS (The following Lifestyle Clause is an extract of the Emmanuel College Collective Workplace Agreement as agreed to by the Queensland Independent Education Union) 1. Emmanuel College bases its doctrines and tenets on the Bible, both Old and New Testaments, which the School regards as the inspired and inerrant Word of God. These doctrines and tenets are expounded in many of Emmanuel College s public and internal documents, both printed and on the school s website, and viewable by staff as part of their appointment process. These documents inform our understanding of the lifestyle values which staff who work in this school are required (subject to the provisions of relevant State and Commonwealth discrimination laws) to respect and maintain at all times, and should be understood as source documents, defining our doctrines, tenets, beliefs or teachings. 2. All staff of Emmanuel College, regardless of their role, are required to be seen to conduct themselves in the course of, or in connection with their work, in a manner consistent with these principles and beliefs and in accordance with the Christian ethics of the School, as contained and interpreted in these documents, thus providing a specifically Christian role model and example to all the families associated with the School. 3. It is intended to be read against the background of, and alongside the historic creeds of the Christian faith, especially the Nicene Creed, and interpreted against their historical and theological tradition. 14 POSITION DESCRIPTION Learning Support Teacher Aide Part time/term time/temporary Accountability: The Learning Support Teacher Aide will report to the Head of Learning Support and ultimately to the Principal. Qualifications: The Learning Support Teacher Aide will preferably possess or be able to obtain a minimum of Certificate 3 in Learning or Education Support, coupled with substantial experience in a similar field. All Emmanuel College staff must hold or qualify for a Suitability Card. Personal Attributes: Every College employee must have a personal faith and commitment to Jesus Christ and are to be in regular fellowship and good standing with a local Christian church. Traditional Christian values must be lived out and exhibited daily. The appointee must: Be a regular attendee of a local Christian church. Ensure that s/he maintains a personal commitment to faith and belief in the Bible, consistent with our College Statement of Faith. Act with tolerance and compassion, forgive and accept forgiveness. Demonstrate an acceptance of other people, be approachable and supportive of colleagues, building effective, professional staff relationships. Skills: Ability to accept authority and carry out directives. Willingness and commitment to know the organisation and support the mission and vision. Exhibit diligence and commitment to all aspects of employment, including areas such as professional presentation and behaviour, observing confidentiality expectations, approach to and completion of tasks within required timeframes. Be competent in the use of general office equipment (such as photocopier, laminator etc), computers and software and MS Office products and . Provide academic assistance including testing, screening and consistent assessment of group and individual learning support students. Possess a good understanding and ability to communicate with Learning Support students and maintain professional development to assist in student management. Continually update, organise and gather information and materials relevant to the position. 15 Duties & Responsibilities: LEARNING & DISABILITY SUPPORT Support Learning Support students across a broad range of subject areas within current curriculum requirements and teacher expectations, supporting the implementation of Individual Education Plans (IEPs) and Education Adjustment Plans (EAPs) Participate in the IEP and EAP processes from initial meeting to evaluation. With broad guidance from academic staff, support small groups or individuals with general learning tasks and assessments. Provide feedback to class teachers on student progress where necessary. Facilitate specific literacy programs with individuals or small groups under the direction of the Head of Learning Support. With assistance and training, administer tests and assess the results to screen for students most likely to benefit from the program. Undertake post program evaluation and map progress. Facilitate screener assessments of students when required. Assist with general administration duties of the Learning Support Department. Assist academic staff with organisation and administration of standardised tests and provide feedback on progress of students. Provide 1:1 support to students with disabilities in accordance with their needs. This may include: developing social skills; scribing when required; assisting during tests eg reading; assisting with toileting, computers, library, meals, sport, swimming etc. Find and use resources for students with disabilities. Attend excursions and camps as negotiated with the Head of Learning Support. % of Workload* 85% ASSISTANT DUTIES Attend professional development courses, staff meetings and out of hours functions as required. Undertake duties as timetabled and allocated by supervising teacher, including sport, lunch time and yard duty. Other duties as required. 15% *The duties and workload percentages above are as the position is envisaged at the time of appointment.
