1 CHURCH SUMMARY Expedition is a 7 year old, non-denominational church of approximately 500 people in Payson, Arizona. Expedition currently has a full-time lead pastor, associate pastor, youth pastor and office manager. We also have a part-time worship pastor and children s leader. Our youth pastor is transitioning out of his current role due to shifting passions. Mission: Make disciples who love God & people. Vision: To see lives transformed- living out the values and priorities of Jesus. Values: Intentionality- On purpose and with purpose. Simplicity- Focus on less to be more effective. Authenticity- Let s be real. Compassion- Tangible demonstrations of grace and mercy. Community- Life is better together. YOUTH PASTOR SUMMARY The candidate will have had experience working as an effective leader providing vision and spiritual formation/discipleship programming for middle school students, high school students and their families. Our ideal candidate will: Work hard and play hard. Be a leader of leaders. Have a healthy sense of humor and love to laugh. Be comfortable in the woods and on the trail. Have a spouse who is equally passionate about ministry. Be warm and personable. 1

2 KEY AREAS 1. Ministry Oversight Monitor consistency with the mission, vision, and values of Expedition Church. Responsible for vision casting & strategic planning. Champion Expedition s keystone habit of Intentional, Meaningful Relationships. 2. Programming Execution of weekly youth group meetings. Plan regular activities for relational connection and fun. Arrange and administer winter/summer camps. Provide for occasional service-projects and annual mission trips. 3. Volunteer Staff Recruit, train, and equip adult volunteers. Create a team-centered ministry that connects students with caring adults. 4. Youth Maintain a visible presence on campuses and in the community. Create a team-centered ministry that equips and empowers student leaders. 5. Parents Ensure frequent, proactive communication. Provide support and encouragement. In addition, this role will include: Helping plan/execute church activities, service-projects, etc. Assistance with various administrative responsibilities. 2

Skills Able to work on a team in a mutually edifying and supportive manner. Has a high regard for Scripture and communicates it effectively in a variety of settings. Strong interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills. A self-starter with initiative who does not require outside motivation. Able to give direction while allowing others to work out details. Leadership Gifted in strategy, implementation and assessment. Skilled in identifying, recruiting, equipping and developing leaders. Adept at training, organizing, motivating, supporting, and supervising people. Strong administrative and organizational skills with results-focused leadership. Experience At least 3 years of demonstrated ability either as the primary leader of a medium to large ministry (50+students) or as a key support role (intern/associate pastor) in a large multi-staff youth ministry (100+ students). Education A Bachelor s degree from an accredited Bible college or seminary is preferred. The candidate should be willing to pursue further education. 4 ADDITIONAL INFORMATION Core Beliefs There is one God, the sovereign Creator and Ruler of the universe who eternally exists in three persons: Father, Son and Holy Spirit. He is holy and infinitely perfect. Jesus Christ is the Son of God, the only Savior and Lord of humanity. He is fully God and fully man. He lived a sinless life, was crucified to atone for sin and rose from the grave giving evidence to defeating sin and death. He ascended to the right hand of the Father where He intercedes for us. The Holy Spirit is the initiator and enabler for the Christian life. He convicts of sin and empowers believers for Christ-like living and service. The Bible is the infallible and authoritative Word of God, the only rule of faith and practice and without error in all that it teaches. Mankind is lost and sinful by nature. Therefore, salvation is by God s grace, freely given through faith in Christ and not earned by any merit of man. Weekly Opportunities There are two Sunday services at Expedition Church. Worship is engaging and intentional, always with the un-churched in mind. Lasting just over an hour, services are both friendly and informal, featuring practical teaching that alternates between book studies and short, topical series. Music is mostly modern, but will occasionally include a re-mixed hymn. Attire is casual, and the congregational atmosphere is family-centric and highly relational. The ministry programming at Expedition Church is one that involves guiding new believers and regular attendees through a spiritual growth process that is built on discipleship and community, not just weekly services and events. Life Groups: Expedition Church believers that God had created every believer to live together in community. With the understanding that life change happens best in the context of intentionally meaningful relationships, life groups are small gatherings that involve a time of Bible study, discussion and prayer at various times throughout the week in people s homes. Service Projects/Missions: In Expedition Church s young, seven-year history, it has already been heavily involved in several local outreach initiatives in Payson, Arizona. From working with food banks and domestic violence shelters, to organizations focusing on men s substance recovery, 4

5 Expedition is fully invested in sharing the gracious and compassionate heart of God throughout their community. Expedition Church has also made a considerable global impact including a key partnership with Food for the Hungry to provide resources to the community of Rwimbogo, Rwanda. Community Graced with spectacular natural beauty, Payson, Arizona is a small town located a little over ninety miles north of Phoenix. At an elevation of 5,000 feet, the 15,000 residents of Payson enjoy a mild climate that accommodates year-round outdoor exploration beneath the Mogollon Rim. The surrounding Tonto National Forest is a major recreational draw for outdoor enthusiasts, and just minutes away from town are several beautiful rim lakes, countless trout streams, and miles of mountain biking, hiking and horse trails. 5
