2 About this Program CATEGORIES Business Analytics is an integration of business context, science, technology and processes that can be used to analyse historical data to improve business performance through fact-based decision-making and problem solving. Business Analytics and Business Intelligence create capabilities for companies to compete in the market effectively. Owing to its ability to create value, Business Analytics and Big Data has become one of the main functional areas in most companies. Analytics is emerging as a competitive strategy across many sectors of business that sets apart high performing companies. Analytics is classified into 3 categories: 1. Descriptive Analytics; 2. Predictive Analytics and 3. Prescriptive Analytics. F A Q Decision makers often struggle with questions such as: What is the right price for a product/service? Which customers are likely to churn? Which assets are likely to become non-performing (NPA)? What should be the right price for a Football/Baseball/Cricket player? Which products should be recommended to an existing customer? What will be the demand for a product? Finding right answers to these questions can be challenging yet rewarding. Descriptive analytics uses simple data visualization techniques to understand hidden patterns in the data, whereas predictive analytics aims to predict the probability of occurrence of a future event such as customer churn, loan defaults, and stock market fluctuations leading to effective business management. Areas of analytics Who Should Attend this Program? The Faculty Development Program will focus on all three areas of analytics. 1. Descriptive Analytics - Use data aggregation and data mining techniques to provide insight into the past. 2. Predictive Analytics -Use statistical models and forecasts techniques to understand the future. 3. Prescriptive Analytics -Use optimization and simulation algorithms to advice on possible outcomes. Faculty members who currently teach and those aspiring to teach in future, Business Analytics as a subject to MBA and Post Graduate students. Pre-requisites for attendees Those interested to attend this program should have knowledge of Basic Statistics; Theory of Probability; Distribution Functions; central limit theorem and hypothesis testing. Should have operating knowledge of MS Excel.

3 Course Objectives The course is designed to provide in-depth knowledge of handling data and Business Analytics tools that can be used for fact-based decision-making using real case studies. At the end of the course, the participants will be able to: 1. Understand the emergence of business analytics and Big Data as a competitive strategy. 2. Analyse data using statistical, mathematical and machine learning techniques and understand relationships between the underlying business processes of an organization. 3. Learn data visualization and storytelling through data. 4. Learn decision-making tools/operations Research techniques. 5. Use analytics in customer requirement analysis, general management, marketing, finance, operations and supply chain management. 6. Hands on experience with software such as Microsoft Excel, SPSS, R, Rattle. Course Contents Introduction to data science; Different types of data; Data summarization and visualization methods. Basics of Analytics: Descriptive, Predictive, Prescriptive and their applications with examples. Regression model building framework: Problem definition, Data Pre-Processing; Model Building; Diagnostics and Validation Logistic and Multinomial Regression: Logistic function, Estimation of probability using logistic regression, Deviance, Wald Test, Hosmer Lemeshow Test, Classification table, Gini co-efficient. Predictive analytics through R and Rattle Factor Analysis, Segmentation and Clustering. Exploratory factor analysis (EFA) and confirmatory factor analysis (CFA). Optimization Analytics: Introduction to Operations Research (OR), linear programming (LP), formulating decision problems using linear programming, interpreting the results and sensitivity analysis. Multi-period LP models. Applications of linear programming in product mix, blending, cutting stock, transportation, trans-shipment, assignment, scheduling, planning and revenue management problems. Network models and project planning. Working session using case study approach: Participants would be assigned in to groups and allowed to build a solution for two cases starting from data collection, data mining, data preparation, building model, interpreting the results and providing recommendations for decision making to address real time problem mentioned in the case.

The governing council of ASI has members from academia, industry and professionals from analytics domain. ASI has Life Time and Annual members from various blue-chip companies, educational institutions and individuals from across the country. Professor Dinesh is amongst the 10 most prominent analytics academicians in India. Professor has 20 analytics case studies published at Harvard Business Publishing. Dr M. Mathirajan (Indian Institute of Science Bangalore) Chief Research Scientist at Department of Management Studies at Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore and Vice President of Analytics Society of India; Honorary Secretary of Bangalore Chapter of Operations Research Society of India;. He has many research publications to his credit. His research interests are Predictive Modelling in Business Analytics; Development and evaluation of Heuristic Optimization in Industrial Engineering, Operations Management, Logistics/Supply-Chain Management, Scheduling, Container Terminal Management and Research Methodology problems. Mr. Rahul Kumar (ARIMA Research) Co-founder of ARIMA Research LLP and an alumnus of Indian Institute of Management Bangalore. Rahul has over ten years of experience spanning across software development, business consulting and analytical modelling. In Arima, they provide consulting services on data analytics and visualization solutions, and insights that stimulate the organizational Intelligence to solve challenges and innovate. Ms. Shailaja Grover (Indian Institute of Management Bangalore) Shailaja is a Research Assistant Quantitative Methods & Information Systems at Indian Institute of Management Bangalore. She has over 15 years of experience in IT with expertise in software development, statistical techniques, quality assurance methodologies and business analysis. She has worked on analytics projects in healthcare domain and with an NGO. Ms. Sandhya Shenoy (Indian Institute of Management Bangalore) Sandhya is a Program Manager at Indian Institute of Management Bangalore. She has over 9 years of experience in Retail and Financial Services Domain. She has handled projects in healthcare domain, Credit Risk model building, Case writing on HR analytics, OR problems related to Tail Assignment, Maintenance Planning in an Airline Industry and a white paper writing on Data driven decision making to her credit.
