Friday, 01 April 2016, 5 pm Graduate Training Profile About the Placement Organisation Leeds and York Partnership Foundation Trust (LYPFT) provides mental health and learning disability services to people of Leeds and across the Yorkshire and Humber region. We are a specialist mental health and learning disabilities Trust and we strive to provide the best possible care and support, working closely with related organisations to provide effective, accessible and modern mental health and learning disability services. We employ over 2,000 staff and our workforce is at the heart of our organisation and we aim to support and develop them, so they both enjoy and are effective in their roles. It is nationally recognised that there are inequalities for people from Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic (BAME) communities in access to employment and of their experience of employment within the NHS. This pilot graduate programme has been funded through Health Education England Yorkshire and Humber and will inform future recruitment practices within the Trust and the future development of the national NHS Graduate Programme. The programme will support a cohort of six unemployed graduates over a 12 month period. Trainees will be based with one service for the length of the programme, within one of the Trust s Leeds sites but will be expected to travel to sites within Leeds and York as required as part of the role. Trainees will have the opportunity to gain the management experience and knowledge to apply for employment opportunities within the NHS. There will also be opportunities for trainees to contribute their views and perspectives to the development of an inclusive leadership approach within the Trust. Page 1 of 6
2 Purpose of the Placement This profile has been designed to give prospective trainees an outline of the potential areas of training and development. A personal skills programme will be drawn up in consultation with the trainee as part of the induction process to build upon their strengths and with support to address individual development needs. Trainees will support the Clinical and programme managers within the two clinical Care groups and the Workforce directorate. Trainees will have the opportunity to project or line manage, with support, elements of the services as well as taking ownership of some projects within programmes. The trainee will: Provide support and participate in project management and other management activities Follow all departmental and organisational policies and procedures Work 37.5 hours per week, Monday to Friday Receive and participate in training and development support; for example through peer support activities: shadowing opportunities: career development advice and mentoring Contribute to meetings and activities to support the development of an inclusive leadership approach within the Trust Work Skills Development Trainees will perform a wide range of duties including some or all of the following and will gain a wealth of experience working on significant programmes of change, within Leeds and York Partnerships Foundation Trust. The scope of the programme will also enable trainees to develop their knowledge and experience within a variety of areas including general management: business support: business development and business planning. The following section provides details of current change programmes within the Trust and an example of the type of activities that trainees will have the opportunity to develop and deliver: Projects: Older Peoples redesign Crisis Assessment Service development Dementia environment Project/Digiwards project Purposeful Inpatient admission project Community services redesign Recruitment project Workforce Race Equality project Plan the projects: Define the scope of the projects in collaboration with the programme manager. Participate in developing project charters which identify and sequence the activities needed to successfully complete the project. With support manage allocated resources (time, money, equipment, etc.) required to complete Page 2 of 6
3 the project. Participate in developing schedules for projects that effectively allocates the resources to the activities. Review the project schedule with the programme manager and all other staff that will be affected by the project activities; revise the schedule as required. Take ownership of allocated objectives and measures upon which the project will be evaluated at its completion Staff the project: In consultation with the manager, identify and select staff and/or volunteers with appropriate skills for the project activities. Support the management of project staff and/or volunteers according to the established policies and practices of the organization. Ensure that any files are properly maintained and kept confidential. Implement projects: Participate in and manage any project area that you are responsible for. Provide records to document activities. Monitor the progress of the responsible areas and make adjustments as necessary to ensure the successful completion of the project. Contribute to the development of a communication schedule which will update stakeholders including appropriate staff in the organization on the progress of the projects as part of the overall programmes communication strategy. Review the quality of the work completed with the programme and clinical teams on a regular basis to ensure that it meets the project standards. Control the project: Write reports as necessary Monitor all budgeted expenditures. Evaluate the project: Participate in ensuring that the project deliverables are on time, within budget and at the required level of quality. Evaluate the outcomes of the project with the teams as established during the planning phase. Page 3 of 6

Personal Protective Equipment Protective Clothing Type of Vehicle (other than car) Other equipment used To control the hazards identified by this assessment, we are committed to providing Induction Health & Safety training plus further detailed training as appropriate to the post. We want all our trainees to work in safe and healthy conditions. In accordance with health and safety legislation all trainees have a duty to act responsibly and to do everything they can to prevent injury and ill health to themselves, work colleagues and others.
