2 Choose Community & Social Care... If you re looking for an incredibly rewarding career in a multidisciplinary setting, look no further than Community & Social Care. The sector provides a wealth of services designed to help people manage physical and mental health problems in the community. These include the provision of social work, personal care, protection or social support services to children or adults in need or at risk, or adults with needs arising from illness, disability, old age or poverty. In the UK alone, an estimated 1.5 million people are employed in 17,000 organisations providing or organising adult social care. The number of jobs in this sector is projected to increase to around 2.6 million by 2025, while the voluntary care sector has grown significantly over the last ten years and now employs around 765,000 people. To meet current demand in the children s social work workforce it is predicted that UK local authorities will need an additional 3,850 professionals.* Our Community & Social Care courses develop a wider understanding of why society behaves in the way it does towards participants of social care, and what can be done to address this by the individual, communities and the state. Sources: Skills for Care; NCVO (Championing volunteering and civil society); Department for Education (Children s Social Work Workforce Report). 6 Profile Orooj Ayub After settling in England with her husband and raising a family of three daughters, Orooj decided to return to education. She visited Runshaw College to discuss the options available and enrolled to an introductory Higher Education course to ease her back into study. Considering her interests and strengths, the course tutor suggested Orooj progress to the BA (Hons) in Community & Social Care: Policy & Practice. Runshaw College allowed a personal based approach to learning. The incredibly supportive first year at Runshaw made the transition to years 2 and 3 of the degree at the University of Central Lancashire (UCLan) uninterrupted and smooth. The last three years have been phenomenal! Orooj completed her degree with first class honours and was awarded the UCLan School of Social Work Prize for best dissertation. She is now studying an MA in Social Policy at UCLan. Moving on... Runshaw College is committed to providing you with an outstanding opportunity to go from a fully supported undergraduate, to an independent, critical thinking, and objective individual when you leave us. To achieve this, we go the extra mile to support you in progressing to higher level studies or employment. Our students progress to a wide range of careers and further fields of study.
