1 Press Release Central Susquehanna Community Foundation For Immediate Release Date: February 25, 2016 Contact: Christine Pangelinan, CSCF Program Officer, or , press 2 Community Foundation Now Accepting Scholarship Applications The Central Susquehanna Community Foundation is pleased to announce that applications for scholarship awards for the academic year are now available. Graduating high school seniors, current undergraduate students and non-traditional students residing across the Foundation's 5 1/2 county regional service area, have the opportunity to apply for a variety of scholarships. There are two different application processes. The scholarship opportunities listed below are available through the online application process available at click on receive then click apply for a scholarship. The deadline for applications requiring an online submission is Thursday, April 7, 2016 by 10 p.m. Additional scholarship funds managed by CSCF require a paper application process and available in coordination with local school districts. For more information on those opportunities as listed below, please contact your high school guidance office. CSCF ONLINE SCHOLARSHIPS (available at click on receive then click apply for a scholarship ): Berwick Health and Wellness Fund - Health Profession Scholarships Available to high school seniors, current undergraduate and non-traditional students To be eligible, student must reside in the BHWF service area and be a graduating senior at one of the following high schools: Berwick, Benton, Central Columbia, Columbia-Montour Vo-Tech, Northwest, or West Side Vo-Tech. Current undergraduate and non-traditional students pursuing a health profession are also encouraged to apply. The student must be accepted into a two- or four-year college pursuing a health profession or a one- or two-year certification program. The term health profession is broadly defined to encompass the many and varied health-related careers, ranging from vocational nursing and dental assistant, to health education, to dentistry and medicine. BHWF scholarship recipients will have the opportunity to apply each year during their undergraduate studies for an annual award if scholarship criteria continue to be met. Graduating high school seniors, current undergraduate and nontraditional students are eligible to apply for a one year award. Joanne McCall Spaide Simington and Paul Simington Scholarship Fund* Provide scholarships for graduates of Mifflinburg High School pursuing degrees in an accredited two- or four-year college, university or technical school programs. The recipient must reside within the present boundaries of the Mifflinburg School District for a minimum of three (3) years immediately prior to graduation. The Fund shall provide for students pursuing degrees in Agriculture and/or Forestry, but not including landscaping or landscape architecture, and/or education majors. Financial need will prevail over grades in award selection. Luis A. Ramos Scholarship This scholarship is for a Berwick Area or Northwest Area High School senior. Special consideration is given to students who have participated in a soccer program, students of Hispanic Heritage and/or students who have demonstrated a strong commitment to community. This is a one year scholarship award. Orlando C. Scopelliti Scholarship This scholarship is available for high school graduates from any school district within the Central Susquehanna Community Foundation service area (Lower-Luzerne, Columbia, Montour, Northumberland, Snyder and Union counties) entering degree programs for the care and/or education of the mentally and physically challenged. Students are eligible to apply upon acceptance to a qualified program for a bachelor s, associate or technical degree. This is a one-year award. Walter and Florence Vorbleski Award These awards are offered for graduating high school seniors and/or past recipients, residing in the BHWF service area, enrolling in a two- or four-year college majoring in one of the following areas: pre-med; nursing; physician assistant; nurse practitioner; surgical technician. This is a one year award.
2 William S. and Virginia L. Hartman Family Scholarship Warrior Run High School seniors attending The Pennsylvania State University are eligible to apply for this scholarship. Special consideration will be given to students who are studying agriculture or education, have exhibited a high degree of academic achievement and community involvement (4-H or other educational and service-oriented youth programs), and to students who are the first in their immediate family to attend a bachelor's program. This is a one year scholarship(s) award. Sunbury Area Community Foundation Roger S. and Lois W. Haddon Nursing Scholarship Fund Provide scholarships for high school graduate(s) of the Danville, Lewisburg, Shikellamy and Selinsgrove Area School Districts who are pursuing nursing degrees. Past recipients may apply for the following year. One or more awards may be granted annually, provided the Foundation award minimum is met for each award. Sunbury Area Community Foundation Health Profession Scholarships Available to high school seniors, current undergraduate and non-traditional students The Sunbury Area Community Foundation offers scholarships to students who reside in the Shikellamy, Selinsgrove and Line Mountain school districts through the Sunbury Area Health Fund. Students must be majoring in a health profession field for the academic year. A health profession is broadly defined to encompass the many and varied health-related careers, ranging from nursing and dental assistant, to health education, allied health, therapy, to dentistry and medicine. Enrollment can be in an undergraduate, graduate or certification program at an institution of higher education. Students at any phase in their post-secondary education can apply. This scholarship is not limited to graduating high school seniors or "new" students. Applicant must apply for financial aid which you are eligible for (ex. PHEAA). Scholarship amounts will be determined on an individual basis. Selinsgrove Area Community Foundation E. Louise Simington RN Nursing Scholarship Fund All high schools in Columbia and Montour Counties To provide funds for high school graduate(s) who have resided in the Columbia and Montour Couny School Districts and are pursuing higher education in the field of nursing. Traditional and non-traditional Student applicants will be considered. John A. Bolig Seals Alumni Scholarship This scholarship is available to high school seniors or graduates (alumni) of Selinsgrove School District, who will be enrolled in a post-secondary program (certification, courses, associate s degree, bachelor s degree) at an institution of higher education or technical school during the school year. Special consideration is given to students who are pursuing a technical career (including heating, plumbing, etc.). This is a one year award. Simon B. and Kathryn J. Rhoads Family Scholarship Fund This scholarship is available to high school seniors or graduates (alumni) of the Selinsgrove Area School District. Preference will be given to students pursuing higher education in a field of study related to agriculture, in a two- or four-year program. This is a one year award. Steven and Judith Bottiger Scholarship Fund This scholarship is available to second, third and fourth year undergraduate students attending an accredited Bachelor of Architecture Degree program with first preference to students studying at a college or university within the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. Preference is given for graduates of the Selinsgrove Area School District, Snyder County, or the Lewisburg Area School District, Union County, Pennsylvania.
3 Wayne and Nancy Van Kirk Scholarship Fund This scholarship is available to high school graduates from Selinsgrove High School who have participated in extracurricular activities and/or community service and will be entering a Trade, Technical, LPN, Business, Computer, Certificate and/or similar Associate Degree Program. The applicant must also demonstrate a financial need and have a minimum GPA of 2.0 (based on a 4.0 scale). This is a one year scholarship award. Scala Scholarship Award Provide a scholarship to a Berwick Area High School graduating senior who has demonstrated leadership and athletic skills as well as a genuine interest in a health/medical related field. This is a one year scholarship award. Don Ruggerio Athletic Scholarship Fund Provide funds for a male or female Berwick High School senior athlete to pursue a two- or four-year education in the health field, including veterinary science, at any accredited school in Pennsylvania. Dwayne Tressler Athletic Memorial Scholarship Fund Provide a scholarship to a graduating senior(s) who is attending a post-secondary school and has participated in athletics. Special consideration will be given to an athlete that has participated in baseball and demonstrated team leadership while maintaining at least a 90% grade average. This is a one year scholarship award.
4 Fred A. Takacs Scholarship Fund To provide a scholarship for a high school graduate(s) who has resided in the Berwick Area SD and is pursuing higher education at Penn State Hazelton. Traditional and non-traditional student applications will be considered. Kyle Douthat Memorial Scholarship Fund Provide a scholarship to a graduating senior(s) at Berwick Area High School who is attending a postsecondary trade school. Special consideration will be given to a student pursuing a career as a diesel mechanic or attending the Universal Technical Institute. This is a one year scholarship award. Luis A. Ramos Fund* Patrick J. Mattucci Memorial Scholarship Fund Provide an annual scholarship to a Berwick High School graduating senior(s) who is an honor student with a 95% or higher overall GPA and is attending a four-year college. Special consideration is given to students who have demonstrated an interest in their community through involvement/volunteerism and participated in extracurricular activities. Preference is given to students who selflessly give of their time to help others and has a high potential for success in selected career path. Applications must include a 1-2 page biographical essay describing the student s plan for college, major field of study, future profession and their involvement with school, church, community activities, volunteerism and work history. Robert J. Wise Scholarship Fund Berwick High School seniors pursuing a bachelor s, associate or technical degree are eligible to apply. Preference is given to students who have achieved a level of academic performance commensurate with their ability, has been involved in extra-curricular activities or involved in organizations in the community, exhibits overall qualities of good citizenship, and has a demonstrated financial need. This is a one year scholarship award. Sharon Cheri Spohrer Memorial Scholarship Fund Provide an annual scholarship to graduating Berwick Area High School senior(s) who are attending postsecondary school to pursue a degree in nursing and have participated in extracurricular activities and community service. This is a one year scholarship award. Steven Mark Nastelli Scholarship Fund Provide a scholarship to a Berwick Area High School graduating senior(s) who is a scholar athlete planning to attend post-secondary education at a two- or four-year institution. This is a one year scholarship award. The Beyond Cajun Thivierge Fund Provide a scholarship to Berwick Area High School graduating senior(s) who participated in drama, arts and humanities, or music activities and display a culture of kindness and selflessness to others with no expectation of reward. This is a one year scholarship award. Scholarships are also awarded for The Mary Fund. Bloomsburg Area School District Central Columbia Area School District (students residing in the BHWF service area)
5 Columbia/Montour Vo-Tech Danville Area Community Foundation Danville Area School District Bloch-Selinger Educational Fund Two scholarships will be awarded for a period of four (4) years for the benefit of a graduating Danville School District student(s) who are one male honor student and one female honor student; and the recipient must remain a student in good standing at their accredited school or university. Carl J. Marrara Memorial Scholarship Fund The scholarship will be awarded to a student who has been accepted into a full-time undergraduate program at an accredited institution of higher education, in Pennsylvania. The candidate exhibits good citizenship, is a leader with a good sense of humor, is grounded, shows tolerance of others, is honest and has integrity. Cole Family Scholarship Fund Two scholarships will be awarded for a period of four (4) years for the benefit of a graduating Danville Area District student(s) who will attend full-time, an accredited two- or four-year institution of higher education and has civic-minded interests. Cotner Family Scholarship Fund To provide a scholarship(s) for the benefit of a graduating Danville Area School District senior(s) who has been accepted and will attend an accredited two- or four-year college, full time, pursuing studies in agriculture and/or agricultural related fields. Danville Area SD Alumni Association Scholarship Fund Provide a scholarship to a student who will attend an accredited two- year trade, technical, associate degree program or four-year accredited Pennsylvania college, university or degree program who demonstrates financial need; has demonstrated through employment or volunteer history the ability to succeed, be self-motivated and possesses strong ethics; and has attained a B or C average, not necessarily the most outstanding scholar or athlete but rather has worked diligently to master his/her academic courses. Danville Area School District Band Boosters Scholarship Fund Provide a scholarship(s) for the benefit of a graduating Danville Area School District senior(s) who will attend, full-time, an accredited two- or four-year accredited college, university or trade school and has resided in Danville School District and participated in band for no less than four (4) years. Danville Education Association Scholarship Fund DEA Provide a scholarship to a student who has been accepted into a full-time undergraduate program at an accredited institution of higher education, preferably in Pennsylvania. Student must exhibit good citizenship and community involvement, have unmet financial need and will not be the recipient of other major scholarship awards. Danville High School Class of 1939 Scholarship Fund Provide a scholarship(s) for the benefit of a graduating Danville Area School District senior(s) who has been accepted into a full-time undergraduate degree program or specialized training at a trade school. Danville High School Class of 43 Scholarship Provide a scholarship(s) for the benefit of a graduating Danville Area School District senior(s) who is entering trade, technical, LPN, business, certificate, or similar associate degree programs. Danville High School Class of 1963 Scholarship Fund Provide a scholarship(s) for the benefit of a graduating Danville Area School District senior(s) who is pursuing a Bachelor of Arts or Sciences degree from a qualified institution of higher education and with community service and volunteering.
6 Danville Rotary Scholarship Fund Provide a scholarship(s) for the benefit of a graduating Danville Area School District senior who is will attend, full-time, an accredited two- or four-year institution of higher education; exhibits good citizenship, honesty and integrity; and volunteers with the community and/or charity(s) demonstrating Rotary s motto, Service above Self. Danville Unrestricted Scholarship (in memory of Eleanor M. Burke) This scholarship was established in honor of Eleanor McWilliams Burke, a lifelong resident of Danville. Mrs. Burke received her Bachelor of Science degree from Hood College and was food dietitian & service manager the Danville State Hospital for 30 years. A one-year award will be given to a female senior attending Danville Area High School in need of financial assistance who has been accepted into a fulltime undergraduate program at an accredited institution of higher education. Special consideration given to students entering a health related field, which includes but is not limited to Medicine, Nursing, Nutrition, Pharmacy, or Physical Therapy. Consideration will be given to student s exhibiting good character, academic performance, career goals and participation in school and/or community activities. Deutsch Family Memorial Scholarship Fund Provide a scholarship to a student who demonstrates excellence in academics and proficiency in athletics. Donald J. Seebold Scholarship Fund Provide a scholarship to a student who demonstrates the academic ability to complete a program in an institution of higher education; preference to a course of study in economics or business administration; and demonstrates extra-curricular activities and community involvement. Gerald J. Levandoski Memorial Scholarship Fund Provide a scholarship to a student pursuing an education in engineering or science (preferably engineering). Jane Hood Memorial Scholarship Fund Provide a scholarship to a student accepted into a full-time undergraduate program at an institution of higher education. One scholarship will be awarded to a student majoring in math or science, including engineering, (preference given to math) and one scholarship will be awarded to a student majoring in graphic/visual arts. Ken and Pat Ackerman Family Scholarship Fund Provide a scholarship for a student who will attend full-time, an accredited four-year institution of higher education; a varsity wrestler and/or varsity football player and has the highest accumulative four (4) year average in English. Mackenzie E. Riley Memorial Scholarship Fund Provide one or more annual scholarships for graduates from Danville Area High School and/or Shikellamy High School who have participated in athletics and will be attending a two- or four-year institution of higher education. Special consideration given to a student(s) who is an all-around intense and loyal team leader with natural athletic intuition, who conducts themselves in a selfless manner while displaying a confident, positive, respectful and encouraging demeanor. This smart and creative individual puts the team s success above his/her own and can be deemed a versatile player not defined by one position or role on a team. Mollie Harter Memorial Fund Provide a scholarship to a student pursuing a Bachelor of Arts or Sciences degree from a qualified institution of higher education with an interest in a career in education, ideally secondary education, or alternatively other careers working with children. Experience with community service and volunteering, and interest in working with children shall be a consideration
7 Rechsteiner Family Scholarship Fund Two scholarships will be awarded for four (4) years, one male and one female. Recipients must continue to study education or science and a minimum GPA of 2.7 out of a possible 4.0 after the end of their freshman year and for the balance of their undergraduate education. One scholarship will be awarded to a student majoring in education and one will be awarded to a student majoring in science. Ronald J. Kanaskie Leadership Scholarship Fund Provide scholarships for graduates from Danville High School who demonstrated leadership qualities, participated in either varsity wrestling and/or golf programs and demonstrates financial need. Roscoe A. Faust and William C. Heller Family Trust Demonstrates the academic ability to complete a program in an institution of higher education; preference to a course of study in veterinary medicine, paralegal, agricultural related fields or engineering; successful involvement in school related extra-curricular activities and in the community; and demonstrates good citizenship. The Simington Family Scholarship Fund Provide scholarship(s) for a graduate(s) of Danville Area School District pursuing higher education in a two- or four- year accredited college, university or trade school. Applicant(s) must have resided in the Danville School District for no less than 3 years and have demonstrated themselves to be civic and community minded and possess a genuine sincerity to obtain a degree. May provide for four years. Valerie Walton Woods Memorial Scholarship Fund Provide a scholarship to a student who exemplifies a potential for success and demonstrates an unmet financial need. Walter A. Whitey and Nan C. McCloskey Memorial Scholarship Fund Accepted into a full-time undergraduate program at an accredited institution of higher education, preferably in Pennsylvania; enrolled in the fall semester immediately following secondary school graduation or date of acceptance as a full-time student and attained a boys or girls letter in basketball; or, football or baseball in the event basketball is discontinued at Danville High School. Annual scholarships are also awarded for the Robin Buehner Kindness Scholarship Fund and the Buehner DHS Class of 2004 Fund. Lewisburg Area School District Roger S. and Lois W. Warrior Run Area School District Bernice Bissell Business & Technology Scholarship Award This scholarship is awarded to a graduating senior who is pursuing a two- or four- year degree in the field of technology, computers, electronics, or other high- tech field or a two- or four-year degree from a Business School or a business related field. Student must have a cumulative average of at least 83%. H. William Koch Scholarship Award This award is given to a graduating senior who has demonstrated a love of learning, an excellent work, and a financial need to further his/her education. Student must have a cumulative average of at least 83%.
9 The Jack Zeigler Memorial Scholarship Award This award is given to a graduating senior in memory of Mr. Jack Zeigler, who best exemplifies the following: always giving the best academic effort; participating enthusiastically in school and community activities; faithfully fulfilling commitments to others; and conducting oneself with integrity and fairness.
