These applications can be filled out and submitted at Scholarship Opportunities University of Northern Iowa: The College of Business Administration at the University of Northern Iowa would like to invite high school seniors who intend to major in Business and consider attending the University of Northern Iowa to apply and participate in its twelfth annual UNI Business Freshman Scholarship Day. This is an invitation only program. In order to qualify for an invitation, students must have both ACT math and ACT composite scores of 27 or higher. A full description of the program along with application form can be found online at and click on the University Scholarship Application. Student applications, including high school transcript, must be received no later than SUNDAY, December 15, When: Friday, January 24, :30-2:00 Where: UNI campus in the Curris Business Building Mediacom Scholarship: Mediacom Communications is again offering $1, non-renewable scholarships through its World Class Scholarship Program to senior high school students in areas of 21 states where it provides services for cable, Internet and telephone. There are 60 scholarships of $1, each to graduating high school students attending accredited post-secondary institutions (four-year university, two-year community college, a technical institution or other institutions that provide further training and education beyond high school) in the fall of Applicants do not need to be a customer of Mediacom; however, they must live in an area serviced by Mediacom. 2 Big Sun Scholarship: The Big Sun Organization is proud to be able to continue to help young athletes succeed in their academic pursuits. We are offering an annual scholarship to a deserving student. All student athletes are eligible for this award, regardless of which sport they are participating in. Please visit to apply. Deadline: June 20, 2014 Strayer-Rairden Scholarship in Physics: The Department of Physics and Astronomy at the University of Iowa will award one $ grant each year, renewable for up to three successive years following the initial award, to an entering freshman from the state of Iowa. This person must have physics or astronomy as their major at the University of Iowa. This scholarship is awarded based on academic merit, not financial need. Please go to for more details. For forms and application, please see Deadline: January 31, 2014 Pearl Hull Falk Scholarship: MidWest One Bank in Iowa City administers the Pearl Hull Falk Trust that provides funds for this scholarship each year. Between 75 and 85 scholarships in the amount of $ are available each year. The money is paid directly to the recipients in installments of $ at the beginning of each semester. A full-time student at the University of Iowa Deadline: May 1, 2014 Hixson Opportunity Awards: The Hixson Opportunity Award is a half tuition scholarship offered annually to 100 Iowa Students. More than 900 Hixson Scholars have graduated from Iowa State University with assistance from these awards. Iowa State s Hixson Program is recognized for best practice in achieving high persistence and graduation of students. 3 AXA Achievement: AXA provided two scholarship opportunities to help with college expenses. The Achievement Scholarship is between $10,000 and $25,000 with a winner in every state. The deadline is December 15, They also offer the Achievement Community Scholarship. This scholarship is $2,000 and has 375 winners nationwide. Abbott and Fenner Scholarship Program: Abbott & Fenner Business Consultants are pleased to be able to continue with our scholarship program for the 6th year. We will be awarding up to $1,000 to the winner(s) each year. Deadline: June 14, 2014 The 2014 Drake Physics Prize: The Department of Physics and Astronomy at Drake University takes great pleasure in announcing the 2014 Drake Physics Prize Examination. First place will include an unrestricted four-year, full tuition scholarship to Drake. There are other awards and prizes for Second, Third, Honorable Mention and for the top 50 seniors. UnityPoint Health Scholar Athlete of the Year: One senior female student athlete and one senior male student athlete will each be awarded a continuing education grant for up to two-thousand dollars ($ ) total. Applicants must demonstrate academic excellence, participation in athletics and service to their school and community. Please visit for details and application. Fahrney Education Foundation Scholarship Trust: The Fahrney Education Foundation Scholarship Trust has announced their scholarship for graduating seniors. The Fahrney Scholarship is a 2, award for students graduating in The applicant must be a resident of Wapello County for more than one year. They must attend a college or university in the State of Iowa. Applications will be considered based on scholastic performance and citizenship. For an application, please stop by the guidance office. 4 True Potential: True Potential is an organization that offers 5 full-tuition scholarships to DACA recipients to attend local community colleges in Nebraska and Iowa. It is open to all DACA recipients to be used a community college prior to attending a four-year university or to complete a program. Please visit the True Potential website for details. Iowa Newspaper Foundation: The INF is proud to announce its scholarship for students pursuing a newspaper career. The application is entirely online this year and can be completed by visiting the scholarship application link on the homepage of Deadline: February 14, 2014 Edward J. Schwartz Perpetual Educational Trust Fund Scholarship: The Edward J. Schwartz Perpetual Educational Trust Fund Scholarship awards scholarships of $ or less for the graduating seniors of The applicant must be a resident of Wapello County and be enrolled as a full time undergraduate student at St. Ambrose University, University of Iowa, Iowa State University or the University of Northern Iowa. Deadline: March 1, 2014 IHCC Computer Software Development Scholarship: The IHCC Computer Software Development Club is sponsoring renewable club scholarships worth up to $2,000, approximately 33% of tuition costs. The club has earned $44,000 to be distributed to incoming students. Deadline: February 25, 2014 J. Ralph and Gladys Meier Scholarship Trust: This trust was created exclusively for educational purposes. It allows students who have graduated or will graduate from high schools in Wapello, Keokuk, and Mahaska counties and who are scholastically ranked in the upper one half of their graduation class to apply for the scholarship. You will find a copy of the application form and any additional information on the Ottumwa Community Schools website. Deadline: March 1, 2014

5 Iowa Student Loan Scholarship Opportunity: Seniors at your high school could win a $1,500 scholarship from Iowa Student Loan by participating in the Iowa Financial Know-How Challenge: Senior Scholarship this winter. The Iowa Financial Know-How Challenge: Senior Scholarship is: Open to legal U.S. citizens who are permanent residents of Iowa; are seniors at an Iowa high school during the school year; and attend college in fall A no-purchase-required scholarship. Eligible students should visit to register by Jan. 31, To qualify for the scholarship, participants must complete two online financial literacy tutorials created by Iowa Student Loan, as well as the 35-question Ednalysis Financial Literacy Assessment in February The 20 seniors who score highest on the assessment test will receive a $1,500 scholarship sent directly to their college of choice. If a tiebreaker is necessary, tied students will be asked to write and be judged on a short essay. Iowa Automobile Dealers Foundation Scholarship: The Iowa Automobile Dealers Foundation for Education is excited to announce that applications are available for $2,000 scholarships to aid students who are interested in working in the automobile industry. To qualify for the scholarship, students must be interested in working in an auto dealership after graduation. Potential career paths include working as a service tech, business manager, marketing specialist, accountant, salesperson, and information technology manager. If you have any questions about the Foundation or the scholarships, contact Mary Cason at Deadline: March 3, 2014 VEISHEA, Inc: Iowa State University has three scholarships for incoming freshman for the fall of There are three, $ VEISHEA Community Involvement Scholarships, two $ VEISHEA Leadership Scholarships and one, $ Central Committee 1972 Doug Harms Memorial Scholarship. Below is a list of requirements for each scholarship: Have been accepted to Iowa State University and plan to attend in the fall of 2014 Rank in upper 15% of high school classes Have an ACT composite score of at least 26 or an SAT score of 1800 or above Exhibit involvement in high school and community activities, particularly in leadership positions Exhibit dedication towards volunteering in their community and show potential for continued community involvement For information on these scholarships and links to apply are listed below. 6 Jeremy Allen Memorial Scholarship: Jeremy was a beloved friend, son, uncle, and brother. He stood 6 4 and was a talented baseball player with aspirations to play professionally. He was looking forward to getting his driver s license on his 16 th birthday, less than three weeks away. Jeremy s story teaches us the importance of preventing school violence by telling a teacher or counselor if you know of any impending fight, and to be a good role model for other students by promoting non-violent ways to solve conflicts, even if you are acting in the defense of others. His story is a reminder that a decision you make in one second may have a lifetime impact on you, family, and friends. The Jeremy Allen Memorial Scholarship is dedicated to the memory of Jeremy Allen, an OHS student and athlete who was killed July 25, 1994, as the result of a fight outside of OHS. The scholarship will award one male student $1,000 for embodying the principles of non-violence and sportsmanship. Qualifications: Male member of OHS baseball or football team, Legion league baseball, or Senior Babe Ruth baseball. Students will need to complete a 1-page essay, submit two recommendation letters, and have no history of violence. Application: available in the guidance office or online at the Ottumwa Schools website This scholarship may be applied to any post secondary program, including trade school, apprenticeship, certificate training program, or college tuition. Students who meet the qualifications are encouraged to apply, regardless of GPA or class rank. Deadline: March 31, 2014 Iowa 4-H Foundation Scholarships: The Iowa 4-H Foundation announces the 2014 scholarship programs for 4-H members attending or planning to attend college fall More than 69 scholarship programs totaling over $63,200 may be awarded. The various awards range in amounts from $500 to $3,500. Some of the scholarships are open to students pursuing any field of study, while others are open to students pursuing degrees in agriculture, food and nutrition, Ag business, animal science, and journalism. The majority of the scholarships will be awarded to students attending Iowa State University. Scholarships are also available to students planning to attend another Iowa Regent University, Iowa private college, or Iowa community college. 4-H Scholarship information and online applications are available on the Iowa 4-H Foundation web page Deadline: February 1, 2014 Wapello County Sheriff Reserve/Lisa Caldwell Memorial Scholarship: The Wapello County Sheriff s Reserve will be awarding 2-$ scholarships for students pursuing a career in criminal justice or related field of study. One recipient will received the Wapello County Sheriff Reserve scholarship and an additional recipient will receive the Lisa Caldwell Memorial Scholarship. Deadline: May 3, 2014

7 IHCC Business Professional Club Scholarship: The Business Professionals Club at Indian Hills Community College is pleased to announce that $1, scholarships are being made available to students.
